UNM Journal of Biological Education with p-ISSN 2581-1959 and e-ISSN 2581-1967 publishes the latest research into the biology teaching and learning, assessment of biology learning, development of biology teaching and learning strategy, development of biology teaching media. The journal aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, providing information, ideas and opinion, in addition to critical examinations of advances in biology teaching and learning research. Special emphasis is placed on research relevant to educational practices, guided by educational realities in systems, schools, colleges and universities. Articles that are theoretically informed and methodologically rigorous are welcomed. It is owned by The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Makassar. Abstract

The research is a quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent research design of pretest posttest control group design. This study aimed to determine the differences in understanding the concept of Biology and scientific attitudes among learners who learn through discovery learning model and direct instruction. The study population were all science major students in grade XI Senior High School 3 Takalar registered in academic year 2015/2016. The samples were taken by simple random sampling technique. The data were collected by using a two tier multiple choice test and a scientific attitude questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and MANOVA test. The results showed that learners who learned with discovery learning model has an understanding of Biology concepts in low category and scientific attitude in very good category. Meanwhile, learners who learned through direct instruction have an understanding of Biology concepts in very low category and a scientific attitude in good category. The result of statistical analysis showed that there are differences between the understanding of biology concepts and the scientific attitude among learners who learned through discovery learning model and direct instruction learning model (F = 10.450; Sig (0.000) <α).

Abstract

The purpose of this study are to know the relationship between (i) the teacher's teaching style withthe learning styles of students in senior high school in Bulukumba city, (ii) the teacher's teachingstyle with the Biology learning interests, (iii) the teacher's teaching style with the Biology learningoutcomes, (iv) learning styles with Biology learning outcomes, (v) the learning interest withBiology learning outcomes of students in senior high school of Bulukumba city. This research is expost facto with data collection using questionnaires and documentation. The result descriptivestatistical of student perception of teaching style showed that have average value is 145, in goodcategory. Most student has a visual learning styles. The average values of interest is 142, in thehigh category. And the average value of student learning outcomes is 76 in good category.Hypotesis used pearson correlation test and got value of sig. 2 tailed ≤ 0,05. So, Ho rejected andH1 accepted. The results showed that (i) teachers teaching styles has relationship with learningstyles in senior high school in Bulukumba city Academic Year 2015/2016, with the relationshipstrength in the medium category; (ii) teachers teaching style has relationship with the Biologylearning interests, with the relationship strength in the low category; (iii) teachers' teaching stylehas relationship with Biology learning outcome student, with the relationship strength in the lowcategory; (iv) learning styles of learners has relationship with biology learning outcomes studentwith the relationship strength in the low category; (v) the interest of learners has relationship withbiology learning outcomes student, with the relationship strength in the medium category.

Abstract

Tujuan umum penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mengetahui perbedaan motivasi belajar peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan motivasi belajar peserta didik yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung, dan (2) Untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan hasil belajar peserta didik yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian Quasy Eksperimen. Jenis eksperimen adalah Posttest-Only Control Group Desains. Populasi penelitian ini adalah rombel X SMA Negeri 7 Bulukumba, dan sampel terpilih sebanyak 2 rombel yaitu kelas X2 sebanyak 25 orang dan kelas X7 sebanyak 27 orang dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah angket motivasi belajar dan tes hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Motivasi belajar peserta didik kelas yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dan model pembelajaran langsung berada pada kategori sedang, (2) Hasil belajar peserta didik pada kelas inkuiri terbimbing berada pada kategori tinggi, dan hasil belajar peserta didik pada kelas pembelajaran langsung berada pada kategori rendah, (3) Motivasi belajar peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbeda secara signifikan dengan peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung, (4) Hasil belajar siswa yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbeda secara signifikan dengan peserta didik yang dibelajarkan menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung.

Abstract

The research is a classroom action research which aims to discover the improvement ofmotivations, activities, and Biology learning results with the implementation of Numbered HeadTogether learming model to the students of class XI IPA 5 at SMAN 1 Masamba. The data of theresearch on the students' learning motivation is obtained through the students' leamingquestionnaire which is fulfilled by the students at the end of each cycle. The data on the students'activities are obtained through the students' activities observation sheet which is fulfilled by theobservers in every meeting and the data of the research on the students' Biology leaming resultsare obtained from the score of evaluation test at the end of each cycle. The results of the researchof the utilization of cooperative learning model of Numbered Head Together type in DigestionSystem material class XI IPA 5 students at SMAN 1 Masamba in Luwu Utara District can improvethe students' learning motivation, can improve the students' activities, and can improve thestudents' learning results.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mengetahui hubungan kemampuan metakognisi dengan hasil belajar Biologi siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Gowa, (2) mengetahui hubungan motivasi dengan hasil belajar Biologi siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Gowa, (3) mengetahui hubungan kesiapan mental dengan hasil belajar Biologi siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Gowa, (4) mengetahui hubungan secara bersama-sama kemampuan metakognisi, motivasi dan kesiapan mental dengan hasil belajar Biologi siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Gowa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian Ex post facto. Populasi dalam penelitian ini siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Gowa, tahun pelajaran 2016/2017 sebanyak 942 orang kemudian dilakukan pengambilan sampel secara purposive random sampling dan terpilih sebanyak 107 orang siswa. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah (1) angket kemampuan metakognisi, (2) angket motivasi, (3) angket kesiapan mental. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) hubungan kemampuan metakognisi dengan hasil belajar berada pada ketegori kuat dengan nilai koefisien korelasi 0,626 (2) hubungan antara motivasi dan hasil belajar biologi berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,573 (3) hubungan kesiapan mental dengan hasil belajar berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,548, (4) Secara bersama-sama hubungan kemampuan metakognisi, motivasi dan kesiapan mental dengan hasil belajar Biologi berada pada kategori kuat dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,633.

Abstract

The research aimed (i) to describe learning motivation, learning style, metacognitive awareness and Biology learning results; (ii) to discover the relation between learning motivation and Biology learning results; (iii) to discover the relation between learning style and Biology learning results; (iv) to discover the relation between metacognitive awareness and Biology learning results; (v) to discover the relation of learning motivation, learning style, and metacognitive awareness simultaneously with Biology learning results of class XI IPA students at Public Senior High Schools in Soppeng District. The research is ex-post facto with the samples were 271 students. The results of the research revealed that (i) the students’ learning motivation is in fairly high category, (ii) the students’ learning style is dominated by kinesthetic learning type, (iii) the students’ metacognitive awareness is in well developed category, (iv) the students’ learning results are in high category, (v) there is relation between learning motivation and the Biology learning results with the score of correlation coefficient by 0.142, (vi) there is relation between learning style and the Biology learning results with the score of correlation coefficient by 0.331, (vii) there is relation between metacognitive awareness and the Biology learning results with the score of correlation coefficient by 0.358, and (viii) there is relation between learning motivation, learning style, and metacongitive awareness simultaneously with Biology learning results with the score of correlation coefficient by 0.398.

Abstract

The research was a Research and Development (R&D). The development model was 4Ddevelopment model which consists of four activity stages, namely: 1) define, 2) design, 3)development, and 4) dissemination. The research aimed to produce a textbook and an AugmentedReality which are valid, practical, and effective. The assessment instruments consist of three items,namely 1) validity instrument in a form of validity assessment instrument of textbook andAugmented Reality, 2) practicality instrument in a form of teachers and students’ responsesquestioner on textbook and Augmented Reality, 3) effectiveness instrument in a form of students’learning outcome evaluation test. Based on the data analysis, the average validity of the textbookand Augmented Reality by two expert assessors was 4.24 (valid) and 4.3 (valid), respectively.Media practicality of the text book and Augmented Reality based on teachers’ responses was 4.4(high) and 4.1 (high), respectively. Media effectiveness score was 89% students reached thelearning completeness score. Based on the result of the research, it could be concluded thattextbook and augmented reality that were developed were valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

The objective of this research are: 1) To increase students' activity during the implementation of learning science through the application of active learning strategies index card match 2) To improve science learning outcomes of students after the application of active learning strategies index card match. This research is a classroom action research. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. From the results of the study showed that the students' learning activities during the application of active learning strategies index card match in the first cycle only reached an average percentage of 52.99% (20 active students from 37 number of students overall). While student learning outcomes after application of active learning strategies match the index cards learning science subject matter Reproductive System In Humans in cycle 1 only reached 13 students who completed (35.13%) and 24 students who did not complete (64.87%) with the overall average value 59.72. In the second cycle, namely increased activity of students with average percentage has reached 90.52% (34 active students from 37 number of students overall) while the learning outcomes of students increased by 29 students who completed (78.37%) and 8 students not completed (21.63%) with an overall average of 70.77. Thus concluded that by applying active learning strategies index card match increased student  Learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study is quasy experiment research, which aims at examining (1) learning motivation of grade XI IPA students at SMAN 18 Bulukumba taught by using cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type, (2) the learning outcomes of grade IPA student at SMAN 18 Bulukumba taught by using cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type, (3) the influence of cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type toward learning motivation of grade IPA student at SMAN 18 Bulukumba, (4) the influence of cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type toward learning outcomes of grade IPA student at SMAN 18 Bulukumba. The population of the study the entire students of grade XI IPA of the second semester at SMAN 18 Bulukumba of academic year 2015/2016. The sample of the study are students of grade XI IPA2 and grade XI IPA3 with the total of 61 students. Samples were chosen by employing simple random sampling technique. Data was obtained by using quetionnaire of learning motivation and test of learning outcomes. The results of the study revealed were (1) student’s learning motivation in the control class after the treatment is 90.90 and is in very high categories; (2) ) student’s learning in the experiment class after the treatment is 104.16 and is in very high categories; (3) the students learning outcomes of Biology subject in the control class after the treatment is 74.24 and is in very high categories; (4) the students learning outcomes of Biology subject in the experiment class after the treatment is 83.84and is in very high categories; (5) the implementasi of cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type give positive influence toward learning and learning outcomes of grade XI IPA students at SMAN 18 Bulukumba.

Abstract

The aim of this research were (i) to describe naturalistic intelligence, emotional intelligence,learning motivation, and Biology learning results; (ii) to assess the relation between naturalisticintelligence and Biology learning results; (iii) to assess the relation between emotionalintelligence and Biology learning results; (iv) to assess the relation between learning motivationand Biology learning results; (v) to assess the relation of naturalistic intelligence, emotionalintelligence, and learning motivation simultaneously with Biology learning results of students inspecial talents class at SMPN 6 Makassar. The research was an ex-post facto with a sample totalof 59 students. The results of the research revealed that naturalistic intelligence, emotionalintelligence, learning motivation, and Biology learning results of students in special talents classat SMPN 6 Makassar were categorized in high category. The naturalistic intelligence and Biologylearning results have correlation coefficient of 0,600, and it can be stated that they have asignificant positive and strong relation. The emotional intelligence and Biology learning resultshave correlation coefficient of 0,524, and it can be stated that they have a significant positive andadequately strong relation. The learning motivation and Biology learning results have correlationcoefficient of 0,606, which shows a significant positive and strong relation. The naturalisticintelligence, emotional intelligence, and learning motivation with Biology learning results havecorrelation coefficient of 0,667, which shows a significant positive and strong relation.
