UNM Journal of Biological Education with p-ISSN 2581-1959 and e-ISSN 2581-1967 publishes the latest research into the biology teaching and learning, assessment of biology learning, development of biology teaching and learning strategy, development of biology teaching media. The journal aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, providing information, ideas and opinion, in addition to critical examinations of advances in biology teaching and learning research. Special emphasis is placed on research relevant to educational practices, guided by educational realities in systems, schools, colleges and universities. Articles that are theoretically informed and methodologically rigorous are welcomed. It is owned by The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Makassar. Abstract

This study was a descriptive correlational research that aimed to know the correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ biology learning outcomes. The population in this study was all of the students of class XI MIA SMA Negeri 3 Makassar as many as 256 people. The research samples were 158 students chose by purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted in March of 2018 on academic year 2017/2018. Emotional intelligences’ data obtained by survey methode using questionnaire and students’ biology learning outcomes obtained by multiple-choice test. Data of research analyzed with descriptive statistic to know the emotional intelligence and students’ biology learning outcomes, and inferensial statistic that are normality test using Kolmogrov-Smirnov test, linearity test using ANOVA Table analysis and correlation test using Pearson Product Moment to know the correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ biology learning outcomes. The results showed that: (1) the dominant learners had emotional intelligence in medium category with percentage 64,56%, (2) the dominant learners had biology learning outcomes in very low category by percentage 61,39%, (3) there was a correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ biology learning outcomes proved by coefisien correlation number < 0.05 as amount as 0.000. The coefisien correlation amount of this research was 0,692 showed that the correlation category was strong.

Abstract

The success level of an education process can be seen from the achievement level of students learning results. Learning results are influenced by several factors. One of the internal factors that can influence learning results is intelligence. The intelligence covers intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and spiritual intelligence. The objectives of the research are to discover (i) the influence of intellectual intelligence on biologi learning results, (ii) the influence of emotional intelligence on biologi learning results, (iii) the influence of emotional intelligence on biologi learning results and (iv) the influence simultaneously of intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence on biologi learning results. The research employed quantitative approach with ex-post facto. The data of the research were collected throught questionnaire and documentation method. The data were processed and analyzed descriptively to describe intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, and the student learning results. Inferential statistics analysis to test the hypothesis by using multiple regression analysis (with significant level α = 0,05) with the help of SPSS 22,1 for windows program.the results of the research showed that (i) there was influence of intellectual intelligence on biology learning results, (ii) there was influence of emotional intelligence on biology learning results, (iii) there was influence of spiritual intelligence on biology learning results, (iv) there was influence simulaneously of intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and spiritual intelligence on biology learning results.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) improve students' interest in learning biology subject, and (2) improve the students' learning activity in biology subject at the ninth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Binamu in Jeneponto Regency, by applying the group investigation type of cooperative learning method. This is a Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles which include: (a) Planning, (b) Action (treatment) , (c) Observation and Evaluation, and (d) Reflection. The results show that: (1) the students' interest in learning biology improves by 6,9% from cycle I to cycle II in the category of "very interested"; and (2) students' activity improved by 23,45% from cycle I to cycle II.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to discover  (i) the relation between scientific approach and learning motivation simultaneously toward students’ learning results at Public Junior High School in Maros District; (ii) the relation between scientific approach and learning results of the students at Public Junior High School in Maros District; (iii) the relation between learning motivation and learning results of the students at Public Junior High School in Maros District. The research is ex post facto in a form of multiple regression.  The data collecting techniques employed documentation and learning motivation questionnaire. The result of the research reveal (i) there is a positif and significant relation between scientific approach and learning motivation simultaneously toward students’ learning results at Public Junior High School in Maros District; (ii) there is a positif and significant relation between scientific approach and learning results of the students at Public Junior High School in Maros District; (iii) there is a positif and significant relation between  learning motivation and learning results of the students at Public Junior High School in Maros District.

Abstract

This type of research is research and development (R & D) which aims to develop a web-based instructional media of biology using Moodle that are valid, practical and effective at the concept of the digestive system. Research and development phase refers to the ADDIE development model that consists of five phases: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, (5) Evaluation. Assessment instruments consists of three,  (1) the validity instrument that are instrument assessment of web-based Instructional media of biology validity and assessment instruments validity of the questionnaire, (2) a practical instrument of teachers and students' response questionnaire to web-based instructional media of Biology, and (3) the instruments effectiveness that are observational activities and student learning outcomes. Based on data analysis, the average of instructional media validity was obtained by three validators is 4.80 (very valid). Practicality of media was obtained by teacher’s responses is 4.60 (high) and the student's response is 4.51 (high). The effectiveness of media value obtained about 6 of the 7 observed activities that has met the criteria of activity and 88.88% of students achieve a mastery learning value. The improvement of Biology learning outcome based on data analysis was obtained by the normalized gain of 0.73 (high category). Based on the results of this study concluded that web-based instructional media of biology that was developed are valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

 This research is a classroom action research conducted for two cycles. The purpose of this study to increase the activity and learning outcomes of learners through the application of cooperative model of team games tournament type. The subjects of the study were students of class VIII F in the junior high school 1 Barombong Gowa district. Data collection was conducted in the even semester of the academic year 2017/2018. Research data collected there are two activities and learning outcomes of learners. Student learning activities are collected during the learning process which is observed by two observers by using observation sheet, then the learning result data is obtained through the evaluation test which is done at the third meeting at the end of the cycle, the final test of the given cycle is a matter of multiple choice as much as 20 twenty) items. All data obtained were analyzed in two ways, namely qualitative analysis for learners 'and quantitative learning activities for learners' learning outcomes. Results of research on learning activities of students showed the average on the first cycle of 65.55%, while in the second cycle of 84.43%. Through quantitative analysis, it is known to the students' completeness category where the total percentage of learners who completed in the first cycle is 60%, while in the second cycle reaches 80%. So it can be concluded that the application of cooperative model of team tournament type of team can improve the activity and learning outcomes of learners.

Abstract

The model of research that used in this research was Research and Development (R&D). This research aims to produce bilingual biology textbook for Junior High School grade IX semester I which integrated by Cambridge curriculum that valid. The subjects of the research are two biologists, a biology teacher, and twenty eight student’s grade IX semester I at Junior High School of 12 Makassar. This research was conducted by using modification of 4-D development model, it consist of Define, Design, and Develop. Disseminate stage did not conducted because of fund and time limit of the research. The technique of data collection in this research was the data from validation results of bilingual biology textbook that obtained from validation questionnaire which filled by validator, and small group test questionnaire which filled by students. The data collected were analyzed by using statistics descriptive analysis. Biology bilingual textbook that developed has components that are Start Lab, Mini Lab, Biology’s Job, Bio Facts, Bio Online, reading check, Bio Lab, Vocabulary, Scientist, Review, Think Critically and Assessment. The result of the research showed that the average total score of biology bilingual textbook validity categorized valid (4,4). The result of the students responses categorized into very good (71,19%), good (23,09%), quite good (5,48%), and less good (0,24%). Based on this research result, it can be concluded that the bilingual biology textbook for Junior High School grade IX semester I has had a high degree of validity.

Abstract

This research is quasi experiment, pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The aims is to know about the difference of interpersonal intelligence and students’ biology learning achievement who taught by cooperative learning model tipe two stay two stray and jigsaw III for excretion subject matter XI science SMAN 4 Parepare. Research data about interpersonal intelligence got from questionnaire of interpersonal intelligence and data about Students’ Biology Learning Achievement got from value of learning achievement test. The result of research show that mean of students’ interpersonal intelligence who taught by cooperative learning model type Two Stay Two Stray is 83,54. The result of research show that mean of students’ interpersonal intelligence who taught by cooperative learning model type Jigsaw III is 83,79. The mean of students’ Biologi learning achievement who taught by cooperative learning model type Two Stay Two Stray is 83,54 is 78,67. The mean of students’ Biologi learning achievement who taught by cooperative learning model type Jigsaw III is 84,75. The result of test of between subjects effects from MANCOVA, so we got sig. value of learning achievement 0,000 and 0,736 for interpersonal intelligence. So, the conclusion is there are significant difference of students’ biology learning achievement who taught by cooperative learning model tipe two stay two stray and jigsaw III for excretion subject matter XI science SMAN 4 Parepare and not different in interpersonal intelligence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara penggunaan game online dengan minat belajar biologi siswa SMA di SMAN Kota Sukabumi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dengan metode deskriptif korelasional dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas SMA di Kota Sukabumi, sampel penelitian ini yaitu SMAN 1 Kota Sukabumi, SMAN 2 Kota Sukabumi, SMAN 3 Kota Sukabumi dan SMAN 4 Kota Sukabumi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner teknik scle likert untuk mengukur penggunaan game online siswa SMA dan minat belajar biologi siswa. Kuesioner berupa online disebar di sekolah yang menjadi sampel penelitian. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis SEM menggunakan aplikasi LISREL dan SPSS. Adapun hasil anlisis penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa SMA di Kota Sukabumi 99% positif menggunakan game online dengan kriteria sedang (64%). Sedangkan untuk minat belajar biologi siswa SMA Kota Sukabumi memiliki minat terhadap belajar biologi dengan kriteria sedang yaitu 67% dari sampel 440 responden. Adapun hasil korelasinya menunjukan korelasi lemah sebesar 0.295 dengan nilai R squere 0.87, yang menunjukan penggunaan game online berhubungan dengan minat belajar biologi sebesar 8,7%.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to discover  (i) the influence of  Intellectual intelligence on Natural Science learning result, (ii) the influence of  Emotional intelligence on Natural Science learning, (iii)  the influence of  Spiritual intelligence on Natural Science learning result, and the influence of intellectual, emotional, and spiritual  intelligence simultaneously on Natural Science learning result .  The data collection technique used was questionnaire of intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligences. The result of the research reveal that (i) most of students’ intellectual intelligences is in very high category, most of students’ emotional intelligences is in medium category and the most of the students’ spiritual intelligences in high category, (ii) there is positive and significant influence of the students’ intellectual intelligences on the students’ learning results. The intellectual intelligences has strong influence on the students’ learning results, (iii) there is positive and significant influence of the students’ emotional intelligences on the students’ learning results. The emotional intelligences has strong influence on the students’ learning results, and (iv) there is positive and significant influence of  intellectual, emotional, spiritual intelligence simultaneously of the students’ learning results. The intellectual, emotional, spiritual intelligence have fairly strong influence on the students’ learning results.
