Abstract

This research explores the use of illustrative music as a stimulus for skill development in the field of body movement within the Dance Education program at Padang State University (UNP). Illustrative music aids in motivation, rhythm regulation, concentration, emotional expression, memory, creativity, body mobility, and flexibility in the dance body movement courses. The research employs a qualitative methodology involving interviews, observations, and document analysis to investigate the impact of illustrative music. The findings of the study indicate that the use of illustrative music, such as Minangkabau ethnic music and classical music, during dance body movement exercises provides a positive boost to skill development, emotional expression, and movement comprehension within the art of dance. Through this approach, the Dance Education program at UNP creates a deep, holistic learning environment for body movement in the art of dance.

Abstract

Revitalization is a systemic process and methodology to reactivate local potentials in the context of preserving important cultures in the face of changing times. Revitalization of local culture as a big job, not just an activity to explore the heritage of tradition and then preserve it. Rather, that local culture stored in cultural heritage is used as a light in accompanying and coloring the musical character of the nation. Change can only be through real activities and not discourse, "this is where creativity and cultural values that can build human character lie. The collapse of traditional culture is not impossible that the Indonesian nation will lose its identity in the future. The degradation of the younger generation's interest in learning about their local culture must be resolved immediately.

Abstract

This article discusses the desire and anxiety of mutual attraction experienced by traditional and popular artists in West Sumatra during the COVID-19 pandemic. Musicians in tradition and entertainment who rely on the survival of music performance services are under heavy pressure by the COVID-19 pandemic situation because performances are rarely performed, even banned. Musicians committed to the creative field of creation experience the same thing. Live music performances are considered to be the cause of the gathering of many people, which results in being vulnerable to the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. However, they still channel the desire to perform live with the risk of getting in the way. Some are creative, using digital internet technology and social media to perform virtually. The research method used in collecting data is a mixture of field and virtual research. The tug-of-war between desire and anxiety is realized through live and virtual performances with non-maximal results. Music performances in the context of traditional music, composition, festivals, and entertainment during the COVID-19 period in West Sumatra are in the range between hope and fear in an incomparable dynamic of balance; they tend to be afraid rather than do it. Anxiety still haunts activists and event managers of musical performances.

Abstract

Music, as part of culture, is often seen as something that only plays a complementary role in life. In fact, if explored in depth, there are many things stored in the music, which are worthy of in-depth study. Music has deposits that describe the natural state of mind, environment, culture and existence of the owner of the music. In general, the essence of music is a sound engineering event. If it is related to sound, then it is enjoyed by hearing. However, in the archipelago in general, and Sumatra in particular, music has become something that is enjoyed by "watching". This is the impact of an evolution from a situation that we have slowly, but have come quite far from, experienced. This article will try to explain the evolution experienced by music from the perspective of art as an object and subject. For example, take the case of music in North Sumatra in general.

Abstract

The research was a trial of instrumental music therapy on prenatal and postnatal patients at the Martha Friska Multatuli Hospital in Medan. The aim of this research is to be a solution to reduce pain and stress so that mothers who are about to give birth and after giving birth can feel relaxed. The tool used in the research is BmT (Music Box Therapy). Previously, BmT (Music Box Therapy) was tested on patients affected by drugs at the Mutiara Abadi Binjai Foundation (2019) and hypertension patients at the Medan Methodist Hospital (2021). The method used in the research was a quasi-experiment on four patients before and after giving birth. The BmT is designed to use two types of sensors, namely the MPX5050dp sensor as a blood pressure sensor and Galvanic Skin Resistance (GSR) as a sensor to measure the patient's skin conductivity level. One of the components of BmT is 16 pieces of instrumental music which are musical compositions by Prof. Junita Batubara, S.Sn., M.Sn., Ph.D.. The results of this trial show that the use of the instrumental music Alam Selamat, which is one of the therapeutic music in BmT, can reduce stress levels in mothers who are about to give birth and after giving birth.

Abstract

Music education is a realm of study concerned with the teaching and learning of music. This music education will develop affective, motor skills in students who play instruments and expand cognitive development through reasoning and interpretation of musical notation. However, many people still underestimate music education. In the education and teaching system of music arts, especially in the last years of the 20th century, new methods emerged. One of the methods that will be discussed is the Tonika-Do Method. This article is a type of literature study and uses the exposition method in presenting the concepts contained in previous studies. The sources used contain the results of discussions about art education, music, and music education. The application of fixed "do" is not carried out as it should be from the meaning of fixed "do" itself. The reading system used in this lesson is not an fixed "do", but a system taken from the basic idea of an fixed "do" system, where 'Do' is not understood as a C, D, E note or something else, but is more understood as a number 1, which is the tone of writing in numerical notation. This fixed “do” reading system is carried out with the aim of avoiding moving 1 ('do') which is generally found in how to read numerical notation, which of course tends to make it difficult for students in a notation recognition. The learning process can include practicing the C scale, followed by the chromatic scale, etude, then entering the song.
