Abstract

Orchestration is one of the theoretical courses conducted in 4th semester at the Music Study Programme, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. However, in its implementation there are still obstacles and problems. The ability of one student to another in orchestrating songs is very different. The inequality is shown when students work on assignments to orchestrate songs given by lecturers during the midterm and final exams. The work on the task obtained significantly different results. The obstacles and problems that exist in the orchestration lecture process cause a great influence on the development of student abilities. This research tries to present a treatment through learning tools in the form of sibelius software. This research is intended to test the effectiveness of learning tools in the form of Sibelius software in orchestration courses. The research method used is a quantitative method with the type of quasi experiment. The experimental design used in this study was pretest-posttest control group design. The results of the paired sample t test in the experimental group and control group at posttest with a significance value in the Sig column of 0.011 and 0.005. The significance value shows <0.05, so it can be said that there is a difference in the pretest results of the skills and knowledge of orchestrating student songs between the experimental group and the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the skills and knowledge of orchestrating songs between students who are taught using a stave book and students who are taught using sibelius software in the Music Study Programme. Thus, the use of sibelius software in orchestration lectures is said to be effective. However, because this study used a quasi-experimental type, there are internal and external factors that affect the improvement of students' skills and knowledge in orchestrating songs, such as individual student motivation and musical experience.

Abstract

Local cultural implied folk tales have rich cultural and traditional values, but unfortunately they are less popular in Generation Z, who grew up in the digital era and have been exposed to global culture, but are usually more interested in modern and international content. They spend a lot of time in the digital world, especially social media. Therefore, social media can be used as an appropriate strategy to introduce folk/local wisdom to Generation Z. This study focuses on the design of illustrated stories that produce carousel-style folk tales/local wisdom on the Instagram platform. Data from this study were collected through observation, interviews, documentation and literary research. The design method involves five core phases: design thinking, including empathy, definition, idea, prototype and test. This study has shown an illustrated story, "si anak emas radin jambat." It is packaged in a portrait format measuring 1080 x 1350 pixels and consists of 11 foils. This work can teach folk tales in an educational way through carousel visual media. New media allows you to present local wisdom stories in Generation Z that are more interesting, relevant and rational, and better evaluate and maintain valuable local wisdom.

Abstract

Persembahan Dance is a traditional Malay dance of Riau, possessing high cultural significance as a dance to welcome honored guests and is an integral component of Riau Malay cultural heritage. However, with the progression of time and globalization, there is a risk if the preservation of Persembahan Dance is not undertaken. This research aims to analyze the preservation efforts of Persembahan Dance through the development of an engaging game application for young generations. The research methodology employed is descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach, encompassing observation, interviews, and documentation. This study also identifies the preservation efforts made by the government, educational institutions, artists, and art studios. The government supports preservation by patenting Persembahan Dance as part of the regional cultural heritage and incorporating it into official events. Educational institutions integrate Persembahan Dance into the Cultural Arts curriculum and extracurricular activities for young generations. Artists and art studios contribute through education and cultural promotion both nationally and internationally. Conversely, the development of Persembahan Dance through educational games using the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) method creates an innovation that can attract young people's interest in learning and appreciating traditional dance while preserving cultural values. This study is expected to provide a significant contribution to the preservation of Riau Malay art and promote public awareness of the importance of maintaining cultural heritage.

Abstract

The development of digital technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), has had a significant impact on education, including music learning. Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) equipped with AI features offer opportunities to create more interactive and innovative learning. This study aims to explore the role of AI features in DAW as a creative learning medium in the extracurricular music of SMAN 8 Bandung, as well as provide new information on its impact on enhancing students' creativity. This study used a qualitative approach based on action research involving students participating in extracurricular music as research subjects. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis in the form of students' musical works. The data were analyzed using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The results showed that the use of AI features, such as automatic composition, sound processing, and harmony analysis, made it easier for students to understand musical concepts and encouraged them to create innovative works. In addition, the AI features helped students overcome technical obstacles, allowing them to focus more on the creative process. This results in increased student motivation and engagement in music learning. This study concludes that the integration of AI in DAW provides a great opportunity for educators to develop creative and relevant technology-based learning methods. As a recommendation, the implementation of this technology needs to be expanded and integrated with the curriculum to support learning in the digital era.

Abstract

Sampur and samparan are essential elements in the costume design of Surakarta-style female dance, serving as primary visual markers that distinguish the aesthetic characteristics of this dance style. Their presence extends beyond mere costume design in court dances such as bedhaya and srimpi; they also function as properties that must be animated by the dancer to harmonize with the movement patterns employed. This study aims to describe the form, meaning, and characteristics of sampur and samparan in the costume design of Surakarta-style female dance and to analyze their significance in the cultural expression of Javanese society. The research employs an ethnocoreological approach with qualitative methods. Primary data were obtained through participatory observation, in which the researcher was directly involved as a Javanese dancer. The findings reveal that sampur and samparan not only enhance the expressive quality of dance movements through distinctive accentuations but also reflect the cultural values and identity of Javanese society. Specifically, samparan is exclusively used in female dances due to its association with the ideal concept of womanhood in Javanese culture. Thus, sampur and samparan function not only in the visual and technical aspects of performance but also as symbolic elements that reinforce the identity of Javanese dance as an art form rich in philosophical and cultural meanings.
