Abstract

This research aims to determine the application of the problem-based learning (PBL) model to improve students' problem-solving abilities in Mathematics subjects in class. This research is classroom action research carried out in 2 cycles. The research subjects were students of the class. The research procedure consists of 4 stages in each cycle: planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting. The biology learning process uses the problem-based learning (PBL) learning method. The indicator of learning outcomes in this research is an increase in students' ability to solve problems in mathematics subjects. The results of the research showed that students' problem-solving skills increased in each cycle; in cycle II, there were nine people in the 90 - 100 (excellent) range, 16 people in the 80 - 89 (good) range, and seven people in the 80 - 89 (good) range. Value range 70 – 79 (medium). These findings underscore the potential of the PBL model to effectively enhance students' capacity to solve mathematical problems, offering a more engaging and effective learning experience.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the cooperative learning model with Baurus pattern problem solving method on the collaborative skills of students of SMP Kristen 2 (Christian Junior High School 2) on the subject of Indonesian Ecology and Biodiversity. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive (quasi-experimental). The research subjects were students of class VII-D (control class) and class VII-C (experimental class) at SMP Kristen 2 Salatiga. Data analysis is carried out using inferential statistics with the Wilcoxon test, Man Whitney, and N-Gain score. The results of the validity and reliability test on the research instrument show that the instrument is valid and reliable. Based on the results of observations, the syntax of the cooperative learning model with Baurus pattern problem solving method is included in the fully implemented category with a score of 4.9. Students also give positive response with a score of 0.9. The results of the Wilcoxon test show that the cooperative learning model with Baurus problem solving method has an effect on collaborative skills with a p-value of 0.00 α 0.05 and an N-Gain score reaching 0.7 (high). The results of the Man Whitney test show a p-value of 0.00α0.05, which means there is a significant difference in influence between the cooperative learning model with Baurus pattern problem solving method and STAD cooperative learning model.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether there is a simultaneous difference in students' creative thinking and collaboration skills when using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with Team Assisted Individualization (TAI). The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only control group design. The study population comprised tenth-grade students at SMA N 7 Surakarta during the 2023/2024 academic year. The sample included control and experimental classes selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a creative thinking skills posttest, collaboration observation sheets, and documentation. The hypothesis was tested using MANOVA. The data analysis revealed that the creative thinking and collaboration skills of students in the experimental class were higher than those in the control class. The hypothesis test results indicated that the significance value was 0.021 (sig = 0.021 0.05), leading to the rejection of H0. This finding signifies that there is a simultaneous difference in creative thinking and collaboration skills when applying the PBL model integrated with TAI. It is concluded that the PBL model integrated with TAI creates a significant difference compared to the PBL model alone in fostering students' creative thinking and collaboration skills.

Abstract

Collaboration skills are vital for 21st-century success, particularly as advancements reshape various aspects of life. At SMK N 1 Kedawung, The Basics of Plant Agribusiness, a subject for tenth graders, emphasizes cultivating these skills. This study investigates the effects of different learning models-discovery learning and project-based learning (PjBL)-on enhancing vocational students' collaboration skills. Conducted using classroom action research with a qualitative descriptive approach, the study spanned five cycles. The findings reveal that both models significantly improve collaboration skills. Discovery learning fosters inquiry and problem-solving through active exploration, gradually enhancing teamwork and critical thinking. In contrast, PjBL centers on collaborative, real-world projects, promoting hands-on engagement and deeper learning. Quantitative results show that collaboration skills improved in all cycles, with PjBL demonstrating a more pronounced effect. Discovery learning yielded consistent yet gradual improvements over three cycles. However, PjBL facilitated quicker and more substantial progress within two cycles, underscoring its effectiveness in fostering teamwork, participation, and practical knowledge application. In conclusion, both methods positively influence collaboration skills, with PjBL offering superior outcomes. Its practical, engaging approach makes it particularly effective for vocational training, addressing the demands of 21st-century education. PjBL is thus recommended for optimal skill development.

Abstract

Peace education in early childhood is essential for fostering values such as self-awareness and conflict resolution from an early age. This study analyzed the need for integrating Sundanese culture-based peace education into early childhood education. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, utilizing a survey distributed to teachers and school principals in Soreang, Bandung Regency, through convenience sampling. The respondents, primarily teachers, completed a questionnaire via Google Forms. The findings indicated that most respondents viewed Sundanese cultural elements—such as the values of silih asah, silih asih, and silih asuh, along with traditional games—as effective mediums for teaching peace values to young children. However, respondents identified the need for additional resources, specialized training, and the integration of Sundanese cultural components into the curriculum to enhance implementation. In conclusion, the study underscores the urgency of incorporating Sundanese culture-based peace education into early childhood curricula. Ensuring its success requires adequate training, sufficient resources, and curriculum integration to equip educators with the tools and knowledge necessary for effective implementation.

Abstract

Genetics concepts (GCs) play a vital role in human development and societal well-being. Despite their importance, advancements in genetics have sparked public controversies, particularly in areas such as genetic modification of organisms and sex determination. Reports indicate that students often exhibit negative attitudes toward GCs, while previous teaching interventions have failed to effectively integrate socioscientific issues. This study aimed to enhance students' attitudes toward GCs by employing the Constructive Controversy Strategy (CCS), grounded in situated learning theory. A pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design was adopted, involving secondary school science students from six public schools. Participants were randomly assigned to either the CCS group (121 students) or the conventional strategy group (119 students). Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) at p 0.05. The results revealed a significant main effect of treatment on students' attitudes toward GCs (F(1,215) = 4.42, partial η² = 0.02). Genetics self-efficacy also showed a significant main effect (F(2,214) = 3.12, partial η² = 0.03), and a significant interaction effect was observed between treatment and genetics self-efficacy (F(2,213) = 3.04, partial η² = 0.05). These findings demonstrate that CCS is effective in improving students' attitudes toward GCs, underscoring the importance of integrating socioscientific issues into genetics education.
