Abstract

Salak pondoh is a typical fruit of Sleman Regency which has been known domestically and abroad. Salak pondoh fruit has been generally marketed in fresh and processed form. The Agawe Santosa Community Association (MAS) located in Turi District, Sleman is one of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that produces various processed salak fruit. The availability of the fresh fruit as raw material for processing salak fruit has fluctuated due to the season, so the volume of processed salak fruit products also becomes unstable. This condition gets even worse because of the fruit processing technology which is still conventional. Efforts to maintain volume stability of salak fruit processed products need to be done so that fluctuations in producer income can be reduced. Community empowerment program or UMKM through strengthening the technology of salak fruit is a solution to maintain this stability. The empowerment of salak fruit processing technology is through the application of Vacuum Frying Technology (low pressure vacuum frying). This technology is able to guarantee that salak fruit processed products can be stored for a relatively long time. The application of Vacuum Frying technology is carried out in several stages, which are introduction, education (training and technology transfer practices), mentoring, and post-practice monitoring of technology application so that sustainability is guaranteed. Empowerment of UMKM Paguyuban MAS is said to be successful with indicators of increasing knowledge and skills in using Vacuum Frying (especially chips products) by 58.4%, packaging processed salak fruit products (chips) and production management by 60%, as well as guaranteeing business sustainability.

Abstract

The high number of elderly people in Dagen Hamlets, Pendowoharjo, Bantul requires special highlight, especially regarding the health care. This urgency is due to the fact that elderly people generally have accessibility limitations in addition to the remote location of health facilities. Therefore, health service which is practical and easy-to-reach/access by the elderly people needs to be managed to take place. The society empowerment effort, especially towards elderly people, was conducted step-by-step, involving socializations, trainings, practices, and local health service facility establishment. The success indicator achieved in this empowerment activities is shown by the improvement of people’s awareness, especially the elderly ones, towards the significance of health, health service post visitation intensity, and the development of the non-governmental health service facility.

Abstract

Mi Lethek  (Lethek Noodle) is made from Bantul original cassava. Its selling creation and packaging are potentially developed. The objective to develop Mi Lethek noodle is to increase the added value and selling value of Bantul’s superior culinary product. The method used was providing training and coaching on the selling tips and creative packaging, monitoring and evaluation towards the producers and the management. The results obtained are the producer label establishment of Mi Lethek Asli Bendo with Garuda brand, the noodle product with new packaging, and online marketing media.

Abstract

Adolescent is the category of relatively young group with energetic, responsive, and highly curious characteristics. Effective adolescent guidance can guarantee better future of national generation. “Where there is a healthy body, there is a healthy mind” is the proverb that suits adolescent best, including those in Banyuasin. However, healthy physical and mind development should be in line with the control of high curiosity in several aspects. Uncontrolled curiosity may lead to inappropriate life choices among adolescent. Adolescent tends to be curious about new things, especially those related to pseudo satisfactions. Such behavior may lead adolescent to one infectious disease called Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). This disease is caused by a virus called Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This disease may drastically decrease human’s immune system, which eventually leads to death. This is the condition that adolescent must avoid and stay away from. Therefore, the development of understanding and awareness against AIDS through socialization and education among adolescent is necessary since there are potential risks that threaten the future of national generation. Anti-AIDS adolescent development program has been implemented through socialization and education on High School students. Implemented development has improved the adolescent’s understanding and awareness, especially among High School students in Banyuasin. This development program has become the pioneer of the anti-AIDS-HIV adolescent behavior development.

Abstract

The elderly people’s lifetime requires attentions, especially those related to the health in order that healthy and joyful lifestyle could be achieved. Healthy and joyful life quality for elderly people is expected to bring improvement towards life expectancy. Therefore, effort in improving the life quality of elderly people needs to be taken into account. The implementation of community service program, particularly the one addressed to the elderly people aims to: 1) perform the selection of cognitive function and elderly people’s mood situation; and 2) follow up the selection results. The implementation method was conducted step-by-step, which was through the selection of cognitive function and elderly people’s mood situation using Abbreviated Mental Test (AMT), whereas Workshop Husnul Khatimah Care (Hukho Care) was implemented for the selection results follow-up. AMT was used to measure the psychological condition and memory disorders; it was implemented through interview given to each of the elderly people. The Workshop Hukho Care was conducted through education as well as small and big group discussion. The result shows that 9% of the elderly people suffer from depression, 19% unstable, and 27% suffer from moderate memory disorder. Those who suffer from depression, psychologically unstable, and moderate memory disorders are entirely female. Female elderly people who are depressed, psychologically unstable and having moderate memory disorder shall require supports and attention from family, Puskesmas (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat/Public Health Center), and local health department.

Abstract

SS. M.J Local Black Honey home production. In Pijoan Jaluko Village, Muaro Jambi Municipality is one of the black honey producers that is potentially developed to be more comparative and competitive. The development of prospective processed honey product is as health product in the form of ointment that is highly needed by people, considering that such product is not in the market yet. The development of processed honey product into health ointment by SS. M.J Local Black Honey home production has several limitations namely lacking knowledge and skill on processing, business capital, and marketing. Thus, efforts for empowerment are needed with step by step methods namely socialization, training, practice, and market meet. The success of this empowering activity is shown from the capability of SS. MJ. Local Black Honey home production to produce processed product in the form of Forest Honey Ointment, the knowledge of business capital development method, and the ability to market the product after getting license from BPOM.

Abstract

Degenerative or metabolic disease is a disease caused by excessive activities that give people no time to maintain their body health. This continuous condition can increase the death risk. This phenomenon is widely found with the existence of obesity in many places including in Gamping hamlet, Ambarketawang village, Gamping district, Sleman regency. Recently, the trend of this disease has gone up. Therefore, creating the society’s awareness about this issue is necessary to do through an empowerment program. This program is expected to decrease the death risk caused by metabolic or degenerative disease mainly for housewives who have never-ending activities. The society empowerment program is implemented through an organization for women namely Family Welfare Program. This program implementation is done in some stages namely:1) early physical quality examination (body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar and uric acid); 2) a group creation that concerns about healthy life; 3) socialization on healthy life pattern; 4) psychomotor routine gymnastics twice a week for 10 weeks; and 5) final physical quality examination. It is recorded from this empowerment program that 38.29 % suffers from obesity, 6.38 % suffers from diabetes mellitus (DM), 36.17 % suffers from high uric acid and 10.64 % suffers from hypercholesterolemia. After regular gymnastics twice a week in 10 weeks, it is recorded that the obesity decreases to 34.04 % and the DM decreases to 4.26%, while hypercholesterolemia increases to 17.02%. The uric acid, on the other hand, remains stable. To maintain their further health, continuous routine gymnastics, periodic medical check-up (at least once a year), especially for people aged 40 years. Another success of this program is the creation of Healthy Life Caring Community.

Abstract

This community service activity aims at developing skills for elementary school (SD) teachers of Muhammadiyah Sirojuddin in using information technology media, namely Microsoft Excel to process the data of the assessment result to the report in accordance with curriculum 2013. The method used was through information technology training divided into three stages, namely: (1) description making of each grade on the fields of affective, cognitive, and psychomotor; (2) submitting grade of affective, cognitive, and psychomotor fields; (3) converting grade from number to descriptive form. The community service was carried out in six times of meetings with 17 teachers of SD Muhammadiyah Sirojuddin. The result of the service community are 15 teachers are helped in understanding curriculum 2013 and grade conversion process based on Microsoft Excel program. The result of the descriptive grade is the one that will be benefitted by the teachers as data input in the report in accordance with curriculum 2013.

Abstract

YouTube is an online video site that provides a variety of information in the form of moving and reliable images. Many users access YouTube to find out how to do certain things, such as cooking demos, how to use applications in a computer or smartphone, recycle garbage, practical ways to do things that are initially complicated or ineffective, hone various skills and so on. This is a descriptive qualitative research employing non probability technique, a type of snowball sampling. The ingredients used for making brownies are eggs, baking soda, vanilla, sugar, wheat flour, cocoa powder, oil and water. In the process of steaming the brownies, heat transfer occurs in the form of conduction, convection and radiation and chemical changes also occur in brownies dough into well-cooked brownies cake. This research aims to find out to what extent the family knowledge in using YouTube as a source of information on science in the kitchen. The results obtained by YouTube can easily be accessed by the public. It is also often used by the public to look for recipes because there is a detailed explanation. After watching the video about brownies making, the insights gained about science in the kitchen increased.
