Abstract

In elementary school-age students (SD), most of their food comes from the consumption of snacks in the school canteen. Currently time, there is a great need for learning media that contains information about healthy school snacks. Media in the form of comic storybooks is a medium that is very liked by children.  The aim of this study is to know the effectiveness of comics media on behavioral changes in choosing healthy snacks in elementary school students. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design. Hypothesis analysis using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The number of samples in this study was 55 students who were taken by purposive sampling with several inclusion criteria at two SD in Pekanbaru City. Wilcoxon's test of knowledge and attitudes showed p value <0.05 in the intervention group and the control group. This shows that the use of educational comics for healthy snacks for elementary school students has proven to be significant in increasing students' knowledge and behavior in choosing healthy snacks. However, the comic was not yet effective in increasing knowledge and behavior as seen from the mean value in the control group which was greater than the intervention group in all research variables.

Abstract

Introduction: Education through health education is one of the efforts to prevent diarrhea in children. The key to the success of health education for children lies in the media used, snakes and ladders media and audio-visual media are media that can be used in health education for children, but there has been no research related to differences in their effectiveness on knowledge about hand washing in school-age children. Methods: Experimental research with a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent pretest-posttest technique, random sampling being a sampling technique, with school-age children as respondents and a total of 80 respondents consisting of 40 health education intervention groups with snakes and ladders media and 40 audio-visual media intervention groups. data were measured before and after the intervention in both groups, and data were analyzed by the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: The snake and ladder media was effective in increasing children's knowledge with p value 0.001 <0.05 and audio-visual media was equally effective in increasing children's knowledge with p value 0.008 <0.05, while the Mann-Whitney test showed that there was no significant difference in posttest results between the intervention groups with a value of 0.241> 0.05. Conclusion: Snakes and ladders media and audio-visual media are equally effective in increasing children's knowledge about hand washing, so this can become a media basis for health promotion by related stakeholders.

Abstract

Maternal and fetal health is one of the most important indicators of health status in the community. However, in reality, the mortality rate for pregnant women in Indonesia is still relatively high as happened in Bantul Regency, DIY. Contributing factors include limited health service facilities and a lack of communication between pregnant women and cadres or midwives about their condition, resulting in delays in recognizing danger signs of pregnancy. Therefore, efforts are needed to overcome these problems, one of which is by creating a mother companion application service (API). The purpose of this study was to make a model of a mother's assistant application (API) based on the MCH book using the User Centered Design (UCD) method for monitoring pregnant women. In this study. The results presented are in the form of a prototype API service information system, where this system can help pregnant women to find out the history of previous examinations, see health articles needed during pregnancy, and when an emergency occurs, pregnant women can use the emergency button so they can quickly connect to a companion, cadres, and midwives nearby. the results of this information system design are expected to make it easier during the pregnancy process. Therefore, it can be concluded that the creation of a mother companion application modeling (API) using the UCD method is effective in helping when carrying out the prototype design process because the user directly plays an active role in providing suggestions so that the requirements for the desired system can be fulfilled.

Abstract

This systematic review aims to review published articles on the effects of physical activity (PA) cycling on biomarkers of endothelial cell function on the risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies involving angiogenic factors were searched in the Medline and Cochrane libraries. Native human studies over 2 weeks of PA intervention were included. Study quality was assessed according to the GRADE evidence system. Results: five complete articles according to the inclusion criteria. Cycling increases angiogenic, endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) and decreased VEGF. The effect of PA on this factor appears to depend on the type and duration of exercise intervention and patient factors, such as the presence of ischemia. As presented in this review, there is strong evidence that cycling physical activity positively affects endothelial cell function and determines the risk of carciovascular disease.

Abstract

Self-management health education is considered an important element of treatment for all people with diabetes and those at risk of developing T2DM. A wide variety of diabetes self-management education (DSME) interventions are available in high-attenuation countries, whereas limited information on culture-based health education exists in Asian countries. The purpose of this scoping review is to map culture-based health education in terms of strategies, outcomes, and action interventions to improve health outcomes and adherence of people with diabetes mellitus. The PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis) method was used at all stages of the review. The databases used in this study were Medline (OVID), Pubmed, ProQuest, CINAHL, Scopus, Inform it Data, and Web of Science from 2010 to 2022. A manual search of the database yielded 197 pieces of data; 11 full-text included for review. Three forms of cultural integration in health education include using dual language (Spanish and English) in the delivery of health education, creating guidelines books and questionnaires in local languages, and creating and modifying diabetes self-management programs or interventions that are adapted to local culture, for example by using food samples consumed. every day by the tribe. The conclusion of this study is that the development of family and culturally supported diabetes interventions integrated with health education is an integral part of maintaining self-management behavior and improving health outcomes for patients with T2DM.

Abstract

Currently, the government's target is to give COVID-19 vaccinations to children aged 6-11 years starting on December 14, 2021, with a target number of vaccinations reaching 26.5 million children. Giving COVID-19 vaccination to children 2 times with an interval of at least 28 days using the Bio Farma COVID-19 vaccine and/or Coronavac. Vaccination in children has been given previously, namely in children aged 12-17 years. Objective: To analyze the relationship of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of parents to the provision of independent vaccines for children. Methods: Analytical description research with a cross-sectional study approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 171 people. Results: There is no relationship between parental knowledge (p-value = 0.282) and parents' attitude (p-value = 0.459) toward the administration of the child's independent vaccine. There is a relationship between the behavior of parents (p-value = 0.000) on the provision of independent vaccines for children. Conclusion: Parents' knowledge and attitudes have no effect on interest in vaccinating children because parents believe that the COVID-19 vaccine is very important to prevent children from being exposed to serious risks due to COVID-19. Information about the COVID-19 vaccine is also very important for parents to reduce worries about side effects and vaccine safety. Therefore, the government, doctors, and nurses must always disseminate the COVID-19 vaccine to children.

Abstract

Background: Obese and overweight adolescents have a high risk of COVID-19 susceptibility and severity compared to normal nutritional status. Although a healthy dietary pattern and physical activity do not entirely prevent infection, they play a substantial role in the host's response to infectious agents. The purpose of this study is to analyze the changes in dietary patterns and physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic in overweight and obese adolescents based on body fat percentages (BFP). Method: A cross-sectional study using purposive sampling was conducted on 159 adolescents from selected high schools in West Lampung, Indonesia. Data collection was assessed using a body composition scale and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Data analysis was performed using SPSS. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyze the differences between the two adolescent groups. Result: The overweight and obese adolescents group increased the consumption of unhealthy foods and beverages compared to the normal group (p<0.05). Both groups significantly increased the fruit rich in vitamin C consumption (p<0.05), but no significant difference in vegetable consumption (p>0.05). Both groups were found to have no significant difference in physical activity, both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic (p>0.05). Conclusion: Adolescents with normal body fat percentages (BFP) tend to have better dietary patterns, in contrast to overweight and obese adolescents with a high BFP who tend to have a decrease in the quality of their dietary patterns. Then, both groups were found to have a significant decrease in the frequency of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Based on the 2013 and 2018 Basic Health Research, there was an increase in the prevalence of overnutrition and obesity in Riau province from 3.1% to 11.6%. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of overweight/obesity in adolescent students of public high schools in Pekanbaru City in 2023. The type of research is quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in May-June 2023. Samples were class X and XI students in three high schools in Pekanbaru City, namely SMAN 4, SMAN 6, and SMAN 12. Sampling was done by purposive sampling. Independent variables were gender, adolescent knowledge, parental education, parental occupation, pocket money, parental obesity status, physical activity, sleep quality, fast food consumption, and sugary drink consumption. The dependent variable was overweight/obesity. Data were analyzed univariately, bivariate, and multivariate. The results showed that the dominant variable associated with overweight/obesity was parental obesity status (OR=3.12; 95% CI: 1.25-7.83). Adolescents with obese parents were three times more likely to experience overweight/obesity compared to adolescents who did not have obese parents. Other associated variables were student knowledge (OR=2.62; 95% CI: 1.27-5.39) and sweet food habits (OR=2.34; 95% CI: 1.04-5.27). For this reason, schools are expected to work with the Health Office and Community Health Center to organize counseling or seminars on nutrition and obesity in adolescents; schools can provide healthy canteens by limiting the availability of fast food and sugary drinks.
