Abstract

The unsafe and unhealthy use of pesticides by farmers is still a public health problem in agricultural areas, but comprehensive studies that reveal farmer behavior factors and the role of stakeholders in pesticide management are still limited, especially in horticultural centers such as Solok Regency. This study aims to explore the factors that influence farmers' behavior in pesticide use and analyze the role of stakeholders in its management, so that strategic recommendations for pesticide use can be formulated. The study uses a qualitative design with a case study approach in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, from March to July 2025. Informants in this study were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of nine independent farmers and eleven group farmers as key informants, as well as nine stakeholders as supporting informants. Data were collected through FGDs and in-depth interviews, analyzed using content analysis, and validated using source and method triangulation. The results showed that farmers' behavior in pesticide use was influenced by their perception of pesticides as a guarantee of successful harvests, concerns about yield decline, and economic constraints. In addition, weak supervision and cross-sector coordination by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Supervisory Commission (KPPP), the limited role of extension workers and health workers, and suboptimal access to personal protective equipment weaken the cues to action for farmers. This study concludes that changing behavior towards safe and healthy pesticide use requires comprehensive interventions that integrate a behavior change approach based on the Health Belief Model with the strengthening of supervision systems, extension services, and collaboration among relevant stakeholders. Keywords : pesticide use, farmers’ behavior, stakeholders

Abstract

Patient identification is part of patient safety standards that must be implemented by healthcare workers in providing care in hospitals. Nurses and midwives are healthcare professionals who observe and deliver services 24 hours a day. Knowledge, attitude, and motivation influence patient identification practices. This study aims to describe knowledge, attitudes, motivation, and patient identification practices in the inpatient wards of RSPI Sulianti Saroso during the period of October–November 2024. This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design involving 150 nurses, midwives, and head nurses using purposive sampling. The instrument used was a valid and reliable research questionnaire X. Descriptive statistical analysis was presented in frequencies (n) and proportions (%). Most nurses and midwives had good knowledge, attitudes, and motivation, and head nurses stated that all nurses/midwives performed well in patient identification. However, many still showed misconceptions in shift-to-shift communication, hand hygiene, fall risk assessment, and family education. The study recommends that hospitals improve patient safety through reporting technology and educational media.

Abstract

Oral and dental health issues remain a major issue in efforts to improve public health in Indonesia. The importance of dental health workers in providing quality services is demonstrated by the high prevalence of dental disease and low public awareness of the importance of maintaining dental and oral hygiene. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how dental health workers provide oral health services at the Dental Polyclinic of a Private Hospital in Medan. This study was conducted qualitatively with ten informants dental specialists, general dentists, and patients. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using thematic analysis by Braun & Clarke (2006). The results of the study indicate that the performance of dental health workers generally meets professional standards, particularly in compliance with operational procedures and clinical skills. However, there are still obstacles such as limited radiology facilities, high workloads, and inefficient administrative systems. Factors that influence performance include individual factors (experience, motivation), environmental factors (facilities, infrastructure, management), and psychological factors (satisfaction and appreciation). Good performance has been shown to contribute to patient satisfaction and service quality. This study recommends improving supporting facilities, optimizing management systems, providing effective communication training, and providing awards for medical personnel to improve the quality of dental services at Dental Polyclinics at Private Hospitals in Medan.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of identity formation, and the social environment plays a significant role in shaping perceptions of body image. Negative body image perceptions can reduce quality of life and mental well‑being, which in turn may affect the nutritional status of high school students. This study was carried out at five public senior high schools in Pontianak City, involving 284 students, in September 2024. Data were collected through BMI measurements and the administration of three instruments: the BSQ‑34 questionnaire, the WHOQOL‑Brief scale, and the DASS test. Relationships between variables were analyzed using the Pearson Chi‑Square test. The results showed that students generally held positive body image perceptions and had normal nutritional status. Quality of life was rated highest in the physical health and environmental domains. Nutritional status was significantly associated with body image (p = 0.000). Body image was significantly related to depression (p = 0.000) and anxiety (p = 0.000), as well as to the physical health (p = 0.006) and psychological health (p = 0.008) domains of quality of life. Implementing physical activity programs and providing cognitive‑behavioral support can help improve positive body image perceptions, which in turn benefit mental health and quality of life, and ultimately support better nutritional status among high school students.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of safety talk educational videos on improving knowledge, attitudes, and safety communication behavior among workers in the mining sector. Mining activities carry high risks, making clear communication essential to prevent incidents. Verbal delivery is often less effective, especially for workers with diverse educational backgrounds. To address this, the study employed video-based safety talks that present safety messages in a simpler and more comprehensible way. The research design used was a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest involving 100 workers at PT Mitra Muda Prima. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and communication behavior were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed with the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and paired t-test. Results showed improvements across all variables, with knowledge experiencing the greatest increase. Attitudes and communication behavior also showed positive changes. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between pretest and posttest scores (p <0.001). These findings demonstrate that video-based safety talks are effective in strengthening safety communication in high-risk workplaces.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases commonly found in the elderly. The high prevalence of hypertension among older adults is influenced by factors such as age, lifestyle, and stress levels, thereby encouraging the development of non-pharmacological interventions, including finger-holding therapy and deep breathing exercises. Objective: To determine the effect of finger-holding therapy and deep breathing on blood pressure among elderly individuals in Dusun II Suko, Cawas District, Klaten Regency, Central Jawa. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group involving 72 respondents (36 in the intervention group and 36 in the control group), selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention group received therapy for 16 days (6 sessions), while the control group received standard therapy. Data were collected using questionnaires, blood pressure measurements, and observations (pretest-posttest), and analyzed using non-parametric tests due to non-normal data distribution (Shapiro-Wilk p < 0.05), with the Wilcoxon test used to assess the effect. Results: Finger-holding therapy and deep breathing were effective in reducing blood pressure, as indicated by a decrease in the intervention group (138.72 to 89.44 mmHg) and an increase in the control group (87.37 to 158.03 mmHg). For systolic pressure, the mean rank ranged from 31.46 to 35.82 with p = 0.000 (significant), while for diastolic pressure, the mean rank ranged from 34.33 to 26.13 with p = 0.175 (not significant). Conclusion: Finger-holding therapy and deep breathing are effective in reducing blood pressure in the elderly, particularly systolic pressure, through relaxation of the autonomic nervous system. These interventions have the potential to be widely applied as a basis for developing non-pharmacological therapies for hypertension.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major nutritional issue in Indonesia, partly due to insufficient calcium intake, which is essential for children’s height growth. Food interventions are needed to improve calcium consumption. This study develops a healthy, high-calcium rice anchovy snack (peyek) and assesses panelist acceptance through organoleptic testing—color, aroma, taste, and texture. The snack was well accepted, with hedonic scores ranging from 3.73 to 4.47 on a 5-point scale. Attributes such as color, aroma, texture, and overall acceptability were rated very highly. Anchovy rice crackers show promise as a high-calcium local food snack. Further flavor optimization is needed to create new product variants.

Abstract

Patient loyalty is a crucial indicator of hospital service performance, particularly in an era of increasing competition and rising patient expectations for service quality. RSUD Depati Hamzah Pangkalpinang, as a major referral hospital, faces challenges related to service complaints and institutional image, which may influence patient satisfaction and loyalty. This study aimed to analyze the relationships between service quality, hospital image, and patient loyalty, as well as to examine the mediating role of patient satisfaction. This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 385 respondents were recruited using quota sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), with one-tailed hypothesis testing at a 5% significance level. The results showed that service quality was positively and significantly associated with patient satisfaction (p < 0.05), whereas its direct relationship with patient loyalty was not statistically significant. Hospital image was positively and significantly associated with both patient satisfaction and patient loyalty (p < 0.05). Patient satisfaction was also positively and significantly associated with patient loyalty (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the mediation analysis demonstrated that patient satisfaction significantly mediated the relationships between service quality and patient loyalty, as well as between hospital image and patient loyalty. These findings highlight the important role of patient satisfaction in strengthening patient loyalty. Therefore, improving service quality and enhancing the hospital's institutional image, particularly through strategies that increase patient satisfaction, may contribute to building sustainable patient loyalty.
