Abstract

Career adaptability is an essential competency for students in responding to changes in the world of work, particularly in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. This study aimed to examine the effect of classical guidance services using the experiential learning method on the career adaptability of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group design. The participants consisted of 71 students, comprising 36 students in the experimental group and 35 students in the control group, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a career adaptability scale covering four dimensions: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. Data analysis was conducted using an independent sample t-test. The results revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). The mean score of the experimental group increased from 99.28 in the pretest to 112.25 in the posttest, indicating an improvement in students’ career adaptability after receiving the intervention. These findings suggest that classical guidance services based on experiential learning are effective in enhancing students’ career adaptability. Therefore, experiential learning can be considered an innovative and practical approach for school counselors in preparing students to face future career challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Guidance and Counseling (GC) teachers in shaping students’ character at MAN 1 Sarolangun, particularly in the aspects of prosocial character, discipline, and learning motivation. This study employed a qualitative method using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that GC teachers play a significant role in students’ character development through an eclectic and transformational approach. The eclectic approach is reflected in the use of various service strategies, including individual counseling, group guidance, character development programs, as well as religious and persuasive approaches adjusted to students’ needs. Meanwhile, the transformational aspect is evident in the teachers’ efforts to encourage behavioral changes toward improved discipline, strengthened prosocial character, and increased learning motivation. The study also found that the implementation of counseling services contributed positively to strengthening students’ character within the madrasa environment, although challenges remain in the internalization of values and the consistency of students’ behavior in daily life. Therefore, the role of Guidance and Counseling teachers is considered a strategic component in supporting the success of character education at MAN 1 Sarolangun

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the level of Self-Directed Learning (SDL) among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 15 Surabaya as a basis for developing guidance and counseling service recommendations. The research employed a quantitative descriptive survey involving 267 students selected through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected using a 30-item SDL scale covering five indicators: awareness, learning strategies, learning activities, evaluation, and interpersonal skills. The instrument was found to be valid and highly reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.92). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and categorized into high, medium, and low levels. The results showed that 77% of students were in the high SDL category, while 23% were in the medium category, and no students were classified in the low category. Although students generally demonstrated good learning independence, several aspects still require improvement, particularly self-awareness in selecting learning strategies, consistency in learning habits, information processing, self-evaluation, and interpersonal skills. Initial observations also indicated that some students tended to procrastinate, rely heavily on teachers, and show low learning initiative. Therefore, strengthening SDL through guidance and counseling services and active learning strategies is needed to support more balanced and sustainable development of students’ learning independence

Abstract

Mental health is influenced not only by psychological and social factors, but also by an individual's meaning in life, values, spirituality, and religious beliefs. In counseling practice, religious values can be a source of coping, resilience, hope, and identity strengthening, especially for clients who view religion as an important part of their lives. This article aims to analyze the integration of religious values in counseling services, identify relevant interventions, explain the ethical limitations of their use, and formulate practical implications for counselors and guidance and counseling teachers. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach through a narrative literature review and thematic content analysis of 23 academic sources published between 2021 and 2025. The results reveal four main themes: the role of religion and spirituality in strengthening mental health, forms of religious-spiritual interventions in counseling, ethical principles of religious value integration, and the need to strengthen counselor competence. The integration of religious values can support more holistic counseling if it is conducted based on client needs, does not impose beliefs, respects diversity, and is accompanied by professional competence. In conclusion, religious value-based counseling is not a substitute for a scientific psychological approach, but can be a culturally relevant and meaningful supporting component for clients.

Abstract

Migrant students often face various psychological challenges due to separation from their families and home environments, one of which is homesickness. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of individual counseling using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach with cognitive restructuring techniques in reducing homesickness among migrant students. The research method employed a Single Subject Design (SSD) experiment with an A-B design. The research subjects consisted of two migrant students, namely TL and AMP, who were selected using purposive sampling based on the criteria of migrant students experiencing high levels of homesickness. The data collection instrument used was a homesickness questionnaire based on the theory of Archer et al., which includes two indicators: attachment to home and difficulty in adaptation, and has been tested for validity and reliability with all items declared valid and a reability coefficient of α =0,729. Data analysis was conducted using visual analysis techniques both within conditions and between conditions. The results showed that at the end of the intervention phase, subject TL obtained a homesickness score of 35 and subject AMP obtained a score of 31, both of which fall into the low category. This indicates a consistent decrease in homesickness scores between the pre-intervention and post-intervention conditions. Based on the results of the study above, it can be concluded that individual counseling with Cognitive Behavioral Theraphy (CBT) indicates a decrease in homesickness scores after the intervention.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of individual freedom from the perspective of existentialist philosophy and its implications for guidance and counseling. The study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach. Data were collected from books, national journals, and international journals discussing existentialism, individual freedom, the meaning of life, and the existential approach in guidance and counseling. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis. The results of the study indicate that individual freedom is a fundamental concept in existentialism that relates to responsibility, existential anxiety, the formation of self-identity, and the search for the meaning of life. In the digital age, individuals are vulnerable to identity crises and low self-awareness due to the influence of the social environment and digital media. The existential approach in guidance and counseling helps individuals develop self-awareness, understand life choices, take responsibility for the decisions they make, and discover the meaning of life more deeply. These findings underscore the importance of the existential approach as a philosophical foundation in the development of guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

Emotional regulation is an essential ability for junior high school students, particularly during early adolescence, a developmental stage marked by emotional, social, and academic changes. One factor that may influence emotional regulation is mindfulness, defined as the ability to be fully aware of present experiences without judgment. This study aimed to examine the effect of mindfulness on emotional regulation among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Semarang. This research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The population consisted of 288 students, and 140 students were selected as the sample through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using mindfulness and emotional regulation scales and analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS version 26. The results showed that mindfulness had a positive and significant effect on emotional regulation (β = 0.605; p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.169, indicating that mindfulness contributed 16.9% to students’ emotional regulation, while the remaining 83.1% was influenced by other factors. These findings suggest that higher mindfulness is associated with better emotional regulation. Therefore, schools are encouraged to develop mindfulness-based programs to support students’ emotional development.

Abstract

Quarter-life crisis is a psychological condition characterized by anxiety, self-doubt, confusion, feelings of being trapped, and uncertainty in making decisions about the future. This condition may occur among vocational high school students who are in the transition period from school to employment or higher education. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group counseling using cognitive restructuring techniques in reducing quarter-life crisis among students of SMK NU Kedungtuban. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest model. The population consisted of 110 twelfth-grade students, while the initial screening involved 84 students. Based on the screening results, 10 students with high levels of quarter-life crisis were selected as treatment subjects through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a quarter-life crisis psychological scale and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a decrease in the mean score from 149.40 in the pretest to 132.80 in the posttest, with a mean reduction of 16.60 points. The paired sample t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings suggest that group counseling using cognitive restructuring techniques is effective in reducing quarter-life crisis among vocational high school students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by academic procrastination behavior in junior high school students. Academic procrastination is the habit of junior high school students postponing school assignments. This behavior can hinder the achievement of learning goals and reduce academic performance. One factor that can influence this behavior is grit, namely a student's perseverance and enthusiasm in achieving long-term goals. Students with high grit tend to be more diligent, persistent, and able to complete assignments on time, while students with low grit are more likely to procrastinate. This research employed a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 242 students, with a sample of 192 students drawn using cluster random sampling. Data were collected using the grit and academic procrastination scales. Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression using SPSS 21. The results of the regression analysis showed a regression coefficient of -0.225 with a significance value of 0.016 (<0.05). This indicates that grit has a negative and significant effect on academic procrastination. This means that every increase in grit will be followed by a decrease in academic procrastination behavior in students. Thus, it can be concluded that grit has an influence on academic procrastination, where the higher the grit possessed by students, the lower the level of academic procrastination.
