Abstract

PT Pindad, a prominent defense industry leader in Indonesia, is renowned for its high-quality, small-caliber munitions, contributing significantly to the achievements of the Indonesian National Army both nationally and internationally. In the face of globalization and the imperative for robust national defense capabilities, self-sufficiency in munitions production and development is crucial. PT Pindad has been at the forefront of munitions innovation, particularly in addressing challenges related to the supply of propellant materials. This study uses a Feasibility Study approach to explore the innovative use of waste paper as a raw material in producing nitrocellulose (NC) and nitroglycerine (NG). Given NG's sensitivity and volatility, diethylene glycol dinitrate (DEGDN) is proposed as an alternative component in developing an efficient and reliable NC-DEGDN propellant blend. This research supports the strategic goal of advancing Indonesia's munitions independence. Keywords: Defense Industry, Propellant Innovation, Munitions Development, Sustainable Materials

Abstract

The study commenced by quantitatively measuring the mental workload of Higher Education Operators (PDPT) through the NASA Task Load Index (NASA TLX). Results indicated an even distribution of mental workload between moderate and heavy levels, each comprising 50%. NASA TLX, a standard tool for assessing mental workload, offered insights into the operators' stress levels during task execution. Subsequently, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to scrutinize factors impacting mental workload. Independent variables, encompassing completeness of data (CD), Feeder Dikti's time demands (FDTD), Internet network conditions (INC), task complexity (TC), and working period (WP), were tested against the dependent variable, the level of mental workload (LMW). This research provides a holistic understanding of factors contributing to PDPT operators' mental workload and how these factors influence the previously measured workload distribution with NASA TLX. This comprehensive insight adds context to the findings, forming a robust foundation for crafting more targeted management strategies to mitigate and manage mental workload in PDPT environments. Keywords: Mental Workload, NASA TLX, Work Period, PDPT Operator

Abstract

The study aimed to assess the efficacy of HPLC instruments in a pharmaceutical laboratory at PT. XYZ by evaluating three OEE matrices (availability, performance, and quality) and identifying the losses leading to low OEE scores affecting the chromatography process performance. The method used is quantitative to calculate the availability rate, performance rate, and quality ratio based on the breakdown data and quantity of product data, followed by calculating the OEE score and comparing the obtained OEE and the world-class standard OEE score. The results demonstrate that the average availability rate in 2022 is 90,73%, the performance rate is 90,45%, and the quality ratio is 95,55%, resulting in the OEE score of 78,42%, which does not meet the world-class OEE standards score. To identify the problems causing the low OEE score, a qualitative analysis is performed using Current Condition Analysis and Fish Bone Diagram. Research indicates that five factors contribute to low OEE scores for HPLC instruments in PT. XYZ, including Method, Man, Machine, Material, and Environment. For each factor, the proposed improvement is described to increase the OEE score, including establishing the maintenance procedure, a training program for laboratory personnel, inventory management for spare parts, and an operating procedure. Keywords: Total Productive Maintenance, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, HPLC, Fish Bone Diagram

Abstract

Fly ash, a by-product of coal combustion in thermal power plants is utilized as a substitute for Portland Cement in concrete due to its pozzolanic properties. Mainly, class F fly ash—produced from the combustion of anthracite coal at approximately 1560˚C (according to SK SNI S15-1990-F)—contains less than 10% lime (CaO) and exhibits significant pozzolanic or filler properties. This research investigates the impact of varying fly ash proportions (0%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) on the compressive strength of concrete. The experimental setup included 108 cylindrical test specimens (10 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height), representing different brands of cement and fly ash mixtures, tested at 7, 14, and 28 days. The study was conducted at PT. Waskita Beton Precast Plant in Sadang, Purwakarta, West Java, targeting a concrete compressive strength of 40 MPa. Results indicate that at 0% fly ash, the compressive strength using Garuda Cement reached 76.66 MPa after 28 days. However, this strength decreased with increasing fly ash content, measuring 72.35 MPa, 69.07 MPa, and 68.13 MPa for 10%, 15%, and 20% fly ash, respectively. These findings highlight the influence of fly ash content on the structural integrity of concrete, suggesting a potential trade-off between sustainability and mechanical performance. Keyword:  Fly Ash, Compressive Strength of Concrete, Portland Cement

Abstract

Charcoal is generally a porous solid material made from carbon with a high degree of aromatization, the result of thermal decomposition of plant waste biomass in conditions without oxygen or with limited oxygen. This traditional method of making charcoal produces charcoal quality that is not optimal and requires constant supervision during the production process. Traditional furnaces or kitchens use soil as an insulator to retain heat during the carbonization process and prevent air from entering the furnace. Optimal combustion can be achieved if several factors in the operation of the furnace are taken into account, including temperature, duration of burning or carbonization, the process of reducing or closing the door, the process of closing the chimney, and the top window. This research aims to design a prototype temperature monitoring system for charcoal burning stoves based on the Arduino Uno microcontroller. This tool will help the operator to know the combustion temperature and completion time of the combustion process, so that the charcoal burning stove is more modern and efficient and can increase the productivity of charcoal making. This system is able to monitor temperatures in real-time and provide important information in handling production time problems. succeeded in increasing production time efficiency. Before using this monitoring tool, operators assumed the charcoal production process time was 12 days. However, after using this monitoring tool, it was discovered that the charcoal production process only took 10 to 11 days. In this way, there is a time saving of 1 to 2 days. Keywords: Charcoal, Burning Furnace, Production Time, Efficiency

Abstract

Indonesia's electrical power supply is insufficient to meet the population's demands. Therefore, the rise of Renewable Energy (RE) is anticipated to fulfill the needs. One of Indonesia's renewable energy industries implementing project management in its operations encountered delays in its engineering procurement construction project due to material delay, and the project's quality failed to meet requirements due to an incompetent vendor. Furthermore, the existing key performance indicators were insufficiently comprehensive, lacked criteria related to business permits, and had unclear Critical Success Factors (CSF). The primary goal was to develop narrowly focused criteria to evaluate vendor construction performance through Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM). The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is one of the techniques utilized in MCDM to determine the ranking of alternatives based on selection criteria that have hierarchical interdependence relationships. This study produced six main criteria based on literature studies, including management capability, financial capability, quality, delivery time, customer services, and safety. The most important sub-criteria from the results of this study are speed and accuracy of delivery time with a weight of 23,90%, where the factor of completing the project activity on time is a key factor for project success. For further handling, this criterion is considered as CSF for vendor selection at EPC projects, especially in the RE industry. Keywords: Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Key Performance Indicator (KPI), Project Management, Procurement Management, Vendor
