Abstract

Maintenance (nafkah) in Islamic family law fundamentally represents a form of responsibility and protection aimed at ensuring the continuity and harmony of family life. However, within the tradition of classical fiqh, the obligation of maintenance is often closely tied to the concept of tamkīn, which positions a wife’s obedience as a prerequisite for the fulfillment of this right. Such a perspective may generate unequal power relations between husband and wife and transform maintenance from a moral responsibility into an instrument of control within the family. This condition frequently contributes to the weakening of family resilience, particularly in societies undergoing continuous social change. This study critically examines the relationship between maintenance and tamkīn in traditional fiqh and reassesses its relevance in light of the principles of justice and family resilience in contemporary Islamic family law. Employing a normative legal research method, drawing on conceptual, philosophical, and maqāṣid al-sharīʿah approaches, the study analyzes classical fiqh literature alongside modern Islamic legal thought. The findings indicate that the linkage between maintenance and tamkīn reflects specific socio-historical contexts rather than universal principles of justice. This study offers a critical framework for rethinking Islamic maintenance obligations, promoting gender justice in modern muslim societies.

Abstract

This study examines how the Paripurna Mosque Program, initiated by the Pekanbaru City Government as part of the Madani City agenda, institutionalizes public piety and reshapes the relationship between religion, the state, and society. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving government officials, mosque managers, imams, congregants, and community leaders. Guided by the concepts of public piety and the public sphere, this study explores the sociopolitical implications of state involvement in mosque management. The findings indicate that state intervention is carried out through the appointment of religious personnel, public funding, reporting mechanisms, and institutional oversight. These arrangements strengthen mosque administration and support religious activities, while also creating new forms of symbolic differentiation based on access to resources, public recognition, and religious legitimacy. As a result, religious authority and institutional status become subjects of negotiation among religious actors and local communities. Rather than producing simple social fragmentation, the program creates dynamics of social-religious differentiation and contestation over legitimacy within the religious public sphere. This study contributes to the sociology of religion by demonstrating how local religious policies function as mechanisms to institutionalize public piety and reshape the relationships between state power, religious legitimacy, and community life in contemporary urban Indonesia

Abstract

This study investigates the short-term and long-term effects of macroeconomic shocks on the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), Impulse Response Function (IRF), and Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD). Monthly data from 2011 to 2023 are employed to examine the influence of interest rates (RTE), inflation (IFLS), exchange rates (EXRT), foreign direct investment (FDI), and crisis conditions (CRS), where CRS is modeled as a dummy variable representing two major financial crisis periods. The VECM results indicate the presence of a long-term cointegration relationship, implying that ISSI is significantly affected by macroeconomic variables in the long run. In the short run, however, the findings show that these variables do not exert a significant immediate effect on ISSI. The IRF analysis reveals dynamic responses of ISSI to shocks in the predictor variables over 60 periods, with interest rates showing the strongest initial impact before gradually declining. FEVD results demonstrate that the contribution of each macroeconomic variable to ISSI fluctuations varies substantially over time. Furthermore, correlation analysis highlights the changing influence of macroeconomic variables during crisis periods, underscoring their role in shaping Islamic stock market dynamics. Overall, the empirical outcomes provide insights for developing adaptive strategies and investment decisions aligned with Islamic financial principles, including reverse Murabaha–based practices

Abstract

This study explores the contestation of religious authority in Indonesian digital da’wah, examining how traditional ulama and Muslim influencers interact and negotiate their legitimacy on social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Utilizing a qualitative digital discourse analysis combined with non-participatory online observation, the research analyzes selected religious content to understand communication styles, symbols of authority, audience engagement, and narratives of legitimacy. The findings reveal that the rise of Muslim influencers and digital preachers has led to a fragmentation of religious authority, shifting from traditional sources such as scholarly lineage and institutional affiliation to factors like visibility, popularity, affective communication, and algorithmic circulation. This transformation creates opportunities for democratizing Islamic preaching, making it more accessible to younger Muslims, but also introduces risks such as superficial religious understanding, pseudo-authority, and polarization. Traditional ulama respond by adopting integrative, collaborative, and defensive strategies, often involving younger digital actors to adapt classical messages into platform-friendly formats. The results highlight the complex dynamics of digital religious authority, emphasizing the importance of understanding how authority is reshaped through interactions between tradition, platform logic, and digital visibility, which has significant implications for the future of Islamic discourse in Indonesia. This article contributes to Islamic studies by showing that religious authority in the digital age is not simply displaced, but contested, negotiated, and reconfigured through the interaction between scholarly tradition, platform logic, generational mediation, and digital visibility.

Abstract

Digital economic transactions in Indonesia are experiencing rapid development, but the legal system is not yet able to guarantee Sharia compliance for digital transactions. The objective of this study is to map the legal relationship between the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) regulations, as well as the DSN-MUI Fatwa regarding digital transactions and compliance with Sharia principles in those transactions, and to describe these relationships based on survey results. The researchers used a qualitative research method with a normative-empirical approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validation utilized source triangulation. Data analysis consisted of data presentation, data categorization, and conclusion drawing. The study found that there is legal harmonization between the DSN-MUI fatwas and the OJK and BI regulations regarding digital economic transactions and the application of sharia principles. This statement is based on findings from several fatwas issued by the DSN-MUI and articles in OJK and BI regulations, which substantially require sharia compliance in every digital transaction. Meanwhile, based on the survey results, 92.5% of the 121 respondents had conducted digital transactions; 90.41% of them stated that they conducted digital transactions based on sharia principles. Thus, legal harmonization can reduce violations of Sharia principles in digital transactions, support the existence of Islamic law in Indonesia's digital transaction system, and gradually contribute to increasing national financial inclusion. However, efforts to improve digital financial literacy, disseminate regulations, and improve financial infrastructure that can reach all levels of society in Indonesia are needed.

Abstract

This study investigates how the instructional leadership of the principal at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Depok constructs a disciplinary culture that generates graduates who excel intellectually, morally, and spiritually. Existing research on Islamic secondary schools rarely integrates instructional leadership theory with organizational culture analysis, and no study has explicitly examined how Islamic values deepen disciplinary culture beyond normative administrative control. Employing a qualitative single case study design following Yin, data were collected through semi structured interviews with ten purposively selected informants, non-participant field observations, and systematic document analysis. Two complementary theoretical frameworks guided the analysis: 1) Hallinger and Murphy’s Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (PIMRS), specifically Dimension Three on creating a positive learning climate, and 2) Schein’s three layer Organizational Culture model comprising artefacts, espoused values, and basic underlying assumptions. Findings reveal that the principal comprehensively enacts all five PIMRS Dimension Three functions in a mutually reinforcing manner. Critically, through Schein’s analytical lens, disciplinary culture has penetrated to the deepest layer of basic assumptions, where discipline is internalized as an expression of Islamic faith, an Islamic cadre identity, and a component of holistic intelligence. The study contributes a novel integrated model demonstrating that Islamic values operate as a cultural deepening catalyst that accelerates value internalization beyond the reach of external control a mechanism not previously identified in the literature. Practically, this model offers Islamic school leaders a replicable framework for embedding discipline as a core Islamic value, designing merit based recognition systems, leveraging digital accountability, and integrating spiritual development into teacher professionalism programs.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of e-modules in teaching fiqh al-ibadah within the framework of humanistic Islamic education at Pesantren Muhammad Natsir. The research examines the effectiveness of digital modules, patterns of teacher student interaction, and the incorporation of humanistic values in the learning process. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study involved two fiqh teachers and three students as participants. Although limited in number, the participants were sufficient for in-depth exploration within this case study context. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the use of e-modules improves students’ understanding of worship procedures, particularly in topics such as ablution (wuḍū’), dry ablution (tayammum), and prayer movements, through visual explanations and structured learning steps. Students were able to review the learning material independently before classroom practice, which increased their participation during discussions and practical sessions. The reflection sections included in the e-modules also encouraged students to evaluate their daily worship practices and better understand the ethical and spiritual meaning behind ritual activities. From the teachers’ perspective, e-modules reduce repetitive explanations and allow more instructional time to be devoted to guiding practical worship exercises. This study contributes to the discussion on technology integration in Islamic education by proposing a humanistic and context-sensitive model of fiqh learning in pesantren. The findings demonstrate that digital learning media, when designed pedagogically, can strengthen students’ understanding of worship practices while maintaining the spiritual values that characterize pesantren education.
