Abstract

Since the introduction of the concept of Spiritual Quotient (SQ) as a form of individual intelligence, numerous applications have been conducted to evaluate its effectiveness. SQ, which integrates reasoning, rationality, and inner intelligence, is a crucial factor in addressing and managing various phenomena. This study aims to explore the application of SQ within educational institutions, specifically within the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Studies (FUSI) at UIN Sumatera Utara (UIN SU). Employing a qualitative approach and utilizing interviews as the primary data source, this study reveals the necessity of implementing SQ in educational institutions through several mechanisms: non-political leadership, the appointment of competent individuals to campus positions, and the encouragement and motivation of students to develop their interests and talents to achieve their desired goals.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the importance of a loving bond between teachers and students within the Islamic education system, particularly through the lens of Imam Al-Ghazali’s perceptions. The study employs a qualitative method, utilizing content analysis of relevant literature, primarily historical sources from the Islamic world, to interpret the concepts, ethics, and roles of teachers and students according to Al-Ghazali. The findings indicate that Al-Ghazali’s theory on the spirit of love between educators and learners offers crucial guidance on student support and nurturing. By emphasizing the development of a strong affectionate bond, educators can foster an environment conducive to learning and growth. The application of this concept is advised for contemporary educators, urging them to consciously promote a respectful and understanding teacher-student connection. The study's main contribution is providing fresh insights, integrating emotional, psychological, and and cognitive viewpoints, on how affection can significantly enhance the quality of instruction in the twenty-first century. Thus, the research concludes that Al-Ghazali’s conception of love is a critical bedrock for quality education.

Abstract

Zakat funds are essential for supporting social activities. In rural areas, sanitation is a significant concern, making the allocation of zakat funds for sanitation facilities vital. This study aims to evaluate the sanitation program carried out by the Benteng Mikro Tangerang Cooperative and determine the efficiency of this initiative. The data collection involved conducting in-depth interviews with the Cooperative's management. The research findings indicate that both social and commercial funds were combined to develop sanitation in the Benteng Mikro Tangerang Cooperative Community. The Cooperative enhanced the limited social funds by incorporating commercial funds, which significantly boosted the financing for sanitation facilities. This activity also had a commercial impact on the Cooperative, such as facilitating financing distribution and generating profits from fund disbursement. The collection of social funds from the lower economic community was successful, resulting in substantial contributions. Social funds from and for non-Muslims were specifically segregated, and the non-Muslim community showed a high interest in contributing and making donations.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformation of spiritual practices among the Mandailing Muslim community in urban Indonesia, focusing on their use of the Naqshbandi Khalidiyah Jalaliyah order as a means of sustaining ethnic identity while abroad. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with spiritual leaders, and document analysis in key urban centers, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. The findings reveal that global modernization processes and migration dynamics have induced a shift from universal Sufism toward an ethnically rooted spiritualism, primarily driven by the Mandailing community. This phenomenon strengthens intra-ethnic bonds via spiritual practices inspired by Dalihan Na Tolu, fostering community cohesion amidst cultural assimilation challenges. The study offers concrete evidence that religious practices adapt to socio-cultural contexts, illustrating how ethnicity influences spiritual life in migration settings. Its contribution lies in illuminating the intersection of religion, ethnicity, and social resilience in contemporary Indonesia, providing valuable insights for scholars in religious studies, anthropology, and diaspora studies concerning the role of local cultures in shaping spiritual expressions in urban environments.

Abstract

The verses of the Qur'an have two types of meaning, namely mutasyabihat (irrational) and muhkamat (rational). The matter of miracles can be classified as something mutasyabihat because the prophets show these events to show aspects of God's intervention to the unbelievers. One such phenomenon is Q.S. Al-Baqarah: 50, about the sea splitting. This miracle was given to the prophet Moses to avoid Pharaoh and his army. Commentators such as ar-Razi and Hamka confirm the verse as evidence of God's Majesty. However, it differs from Maulana Muhammad Ali's interpretation, which explains the miracle of the prophet Musa's ability to pass through the sea due to receding water. Therefore, the difference between Maulana Muhammad Ali's interpretation and other commentators raises problems, namely how irrational meanings such as the splitting of the sea are understood by Ali rationally and how the categorization of Ali's interpretation. This research is qualitative, library research that accumulates documentation data. The analysis used in this study is based on Tafsir's interpretive approach and rationality. The results of this study are Maulana Muhammad Ali provides an interpretation of the event of the splitting of the sea, and it is understood that the receding of the seawater is a rational reason so that the prophet Musa and his people could pass through the sea

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has seen significant progress and has become an attractive platform for improving the quality of education. In recent years, interest in AI-based applications has been very high among academics, including Islamic school educators in Indonesia. This paper aims to highlight the motives and implications of Islamic school educators in using ChatGPT in learning. This article uses qualitative research with a field research design. Primary data sources are derived from interviews, where the main data were obtained through interviews with Islamic school educators at the Madrasah Aliyah (MA) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) levels in Indonesia. Secondary data were obtained from scientific articles (journals), books, websites, and other relevant literature related to the research object. Data collection techniques included interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques were based on Miles et al., namely data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that ChatGPT offers numerous benefits for educators, including enhancing and facilitating access to information, searching for teaching materials, and accessing learning resources. However, despite its many advantages, the use of ChatGPT in education also presents several challenges, such as dependence on technology, potential ethical violations, and privacy concerns. These negative impacts, if not addressed, could have adverse effects on educators in schools.
