Abstract

One of Samarinda City's green open space, Taman Samarendah carries the concepts of culture and environment. This research departs from the observation that Taman Samarendah contains components of the biomimicry concept approach. The purpose of the research is to learn how park visitors perceive the design of biomimicry in relation to what they regard at Taman Samarendah. The method used is mixed methods with grounded theory as its foundation. As a result, the garden elements associated with the biomimicry criteria, the most respondents chose form criteria with a percentage of 36.27%, followed by function criteria 22.55%, while other criteria were relatively insignificant. In addition, measuring the strength of the biomimicry impression per criterion, the results were obtained in the form of: function criteria were in the highest position perceived by visitors as the 'most biomimicry' thing from Taman Samarendah with a score of 3.31, followed by form criteria (3.23), material criteria (3.14), construction criteria (3.13), and process criteria (3.07).

Abstract

According to RI Law Number 20 of 2011 Flats are buildings or buildings built in an environment, both horizontally and vertically, each unit of which can be used and owned separately, one of which is in the form of a residence and also equipped with parts that can be used together. Vertical housing such as flats is still a solution to overcome crowded and slum care environments. The design of flats in the Belawan slum area using a behavioral architectural approach aims to create a comfortable and safe residential space in a slum environment. Therefore, the behavioral architectural approach is used as a design method that focuses on understanding human behavior in utilizing residential space. It is hoped that these flats can provide a comfortable and safe living environment for residents of the Belawan slum area, as well as significantly improve their quality of life.

Abstract

The design and construction fields are gradually conveying the green building discourse. The main cause is the use of buildings which use quite a lot of energy in their management. In 2019, the government began to launch a movement to apply green building concepts to government-owned buildings, one of which is to ensure that these buildings are classified as energy efficient. In its development, the concept of energy-efficient buildings is not only applied to government buildings but must also be applied to privately owned buildings. In this project, qualitative methods were used by carrying out a descriptive analysis of the art building objects linked to the application of energy-efficient building principles. Data collection using literature study methods in the form of energy-efficient building design theories and comparative studies related to buildings that apply energy-efficient building design principles. To achieve the goal of an energy-efficient building, the design of the Arts Building in Lubuk Pakam took a thin building design to allow as much use of natural lighting as possible. In rooms that require additional artificial lighting, the power requirements for each room are calculated and energy-saving lamps are used. In addition, using solar panels as an alternative source of electricity in buildings makes it possible to achieve energy savings used in the Arts Building in Lubuk Pakam.

Abstract

The development of the arts in developing the artistic talents of the people of Medan city, is increasingly evident with the number of events with the arts as the main thing in the implementation of the event. From the results of data calculations carried out, the number of people who want to develop talents in the arts does not match the number of art schools in Medan. There are only 57 art associations and 1 art college in Medan State University. What helps is the Tamab Budaya which at the moment is in a condition that is not suitable for use anymore. By looking at the existing functions, and comparative studies conducted, a high school is needed with an adaptation approach to the environment according to the needs of students. The purpose of the research is that there is an art high school building, by applying environmental adaptation. The research method carried out is by processing data on survey results, conducting comparative studies and collecting data through observation, interviews, and analyzing documentation. This research is expected to provide concrete insights to improve the adaptation of art school buildings to the environment and support the development of arts and culture in Medan City optimally.

Abstract

The way a traditional society's culture views gender roles will influence the behavior of that society in the built environment, including the traditional Toraja society. Yet, in contrast to other traditional societies, this society believes that men and women have equally important roles in building family life or what is usually called gender equality. Thus, this research was conducted to see how gender equality influences people's behavior in their daily lives, especially from an architectural perspective which is reflected in spatial patterns. Therefore, this research was carried out by applying a qualitative descriptive method, where data was obtained through literature study and direct observation in the field, and strengthened by the results of interviews with the local community. The data is then processed and explained based on aspects: house ownership, roles and activities of each gender, use of space, and gender symbolization in the physical form of traditional Toraja house buildings or what is called Tongkonan. The research results show that the ancient life patterns of the Toraja Indigenous People who adhere to gender equality are manifested in patterns of spatial planning and use of space. Even though Tongkonan is considered an image of women as mothers, there was no special treatment or inclusion of certain genders in utilizing every corner of the existing space.

Abstract

The island of Bali is the main tourist destination in Indonesia, which makes this island busy with world tourists. The increase in tourist visits also has an impact on the provision of infrastructure on the island of Bali, especially commercial facilities related to retail and entertainment, namely Shopping Centers. As times and people's lifestyles develop, people's perception of shopping centers has also evolved into a public space that can accommodate all visitor activities ranging from retail activities to entertainment. However, the provision of shopping center facilities sometimes does not pay attention to harmony with nature and its impact on the environment as well as aspects of user satisfaction. Changes in people's lifestyles and their relationship to nature and user satisfaction can be addressed by applying the CityWalk concept to shopping center buildings. Beachwalk Shopping Center which uses the citywalk concept is used as a research object to analyze its application. This research aims to understand the Beachwalk Shopping Center case study which applies the CityWalk concept in terms of the principles of the CityWalk concept such as user accessibility, green open space, transportation accessibility and building sustainability. The results of the research show that the building has implemented the principles of the CityWalk concept well through the presence of pedestrians areas as user accessibility, lots of green open spaces, aesthetic architectural design, minimal negative impact on the building and easy access to transportation in the BeachWalk Shopping Center Bali building.
