Abstract

Deoxyribonuclease (DNAse) is an enzyme that plays an important role in cell apoptosis and has the function of hydrolyzing DNA. There are two types of DNAse, namely i) DNAse I which works well at neutral pH (6.5-8.0) and requires bivalent ions such as magnesium (Mg2+) and calcium (Ca2+) for activation, and ii) DNAse II which works by good at acidic pH and does not require bivalent ions. DNAse inhibitors are required to control the activity of DNAse. Both DNAse and its inhibitors have a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, such as in the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus. DNase inhibitors can be obtained from natural, conventional, or chemical sources.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, which is running slowly but surely, demands that people obey health protocols. In other views, Islam has taught how a Muslim should deal with the epidemic. Various factors that might affect public compliance with COVID-19 health protocols include demographic factors, knowledge of COVID-19, health status, and religiosity. Various studies showed that there was still controversy related to it. This study aimed to determine the correlation between compliance with the COVID-19 Health protocol with knowledge of COVID-19, self-health perception, and religiosity for the Muslim community in North Sumatera, Indonesia. This study was conducted between mid of October to mid-November 2020 on the Muslim population living in Medan City and Deli Serdang District, the most prevalent places for the spread of COVID-19 in North Sumatra. The questionnaires were distributed randomly to the online recitation group in the red zone in North Sumatra. Data collected by google form is distributed via the WhatsApp (WA) application. The results of the study were among 225 participants in the study, those who adhered to the health protocol were 125 people (55.6%), and the level of good religiosity was 120 people (53.33%). This study found that people who adhere to health protocols are related to older age, female gender, higher education, private workers, better knowledge of COVID19, and high religiosity. Religiosity is positively correlated with compliance with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Logistic Regression analysis, religiosity turns out to be a good predictor for increasing compliance. Thus there needs to be a parallel effort between increasing knowledge about COVID-19 and community religiosity so that prevention efforts will be even better in the future

Abstract

Meningioma is one of the tumor in the brains that is extra-axial, which means it is not originated from  the brain cell. We report a case of a 60-year-old female, that was admitted to the emergency room (ER) of a secondary referral hospital, due to sudden weakness of upper and lower right extremities since 2 days prior. She had been experiencing a feeling of fullness in the left frontal head since the previous 3 months, along with some headache. She admitted to have had diabetes for the last 2 years. She also reported family history of brain tumor. Neurosurgeon has diagnosed the tumor as a meningioma with differential diagnose a metastatic tumor. A non contrast CT scan has found a meningioma. After being diagnosed, the patient underwent a craniotomy to remove the tumor. The histopathology finding confirmed the diagnosis of meningioma (WHO Grade I). Meningiomas are mostly hyperattenuating to surrounding brain parenchyma, while roughly one fourth are isodense. Overt calcification as in this case is usually seen in psammomatous and meningothelial. Well collaboration between clinician, radiologist, and histopathologist is the key to ensure patient’s recovery and safety

Abstract

Abstract: Anxiety is the most common psychiatric disorder in pregnancy. Anxiety in pregnancy is related to preterm labor, fetal growth restriction, and poor neurobehavioral development. Anxiety before cesarean section can increase the need for anesthesia, postoperative analgesics, and cause an immunocompromised condition. This study aimed to assess the maternal anxiety level and related factors during caesarean section. This is a cross-sectional study using primary data from a private maternity clinic in April-May 2020. Based on defined criteria, 117 subjects were recruited for this study. Anxiety levels are assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with anxiety level. age was 29.445.90 years. The mean HAM-A score was 9.905.80 points. High scoring HAM-A components were the anxious mood component (1.560.74), insomnia (sleep disturbance) (1.400.67), and tension (1.380.73). A majority of the pregnant women (76.9%) showed no anxiety about undergoing caesarean section. The rest of these pregnant women (23.1%) showed mild anxiety (13.7%) and moderate anxiety (9.4%). There was no statistically significant correlation between age, education background, income level, parity level, occupation, and history of caesarean section. Adequate analgesics, family support, and informative and educative advice about caesarean section can make pregnant women not worried about this procedure. Keywords:Anxiety; Pregnancy; Caesarian Section; HAM-A

Abstract

Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the chronic diseases that every year the number of sufferers is increasing in various parts of the world. The common knowledge of diabetics regarding their disease causes them to be unable to properly carry out self-care, so their blood sugar levels are not controlled. Diabetes is also one of the comorbidities that cause death in Covid-19 patients. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) in improving the self-efficacy of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in the work area of the Langsa Kota Health Center. The method used quasi-experiment and design was pre-test and post-test with a control group design, with 25 respondents for each group. The study was conducted from June 7 August 7, 2021, in the working area of the Langsa Kota Health Center. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires, the implementation of comprehensive education, measurement of blood sugar levels, and taking into account research ethics. The results of the writing were obtained by the majority of female respondents in the early adult age category, the majority of whom had diabetes over 10 years old. The paired t-test found significant differences in the intervention group after receiving DSME education compared to the control group. Education was conducted intensively in the intervention group, which discussed knowledge of DM, diet, physical exercise, and stress management. It is hoped that puskesmas can adopt DSME as a reference in educating the public, especially people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Keywords: Diabetes Self Management Education, Self Efficacy, DSME

Abstract

Abstract: Atrial fibrillation (AF) after cardiac surgery is associated with an increased risk of complications, length of stay, and cost of care. Recent studies have demonstrated that statins have pleiotropic effects, including anti-inflammatory effects and preventing atrial fibrillation (AF). The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of preoperative statin therapy in preventing AF after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). 53 patients underwent CABG in our hospital from February to August 2018. Patients were randomized into two groups to examine the effect of statins: those with atorvastatin 20 mg/day during the preoperative period (Atorvastatin group, n = 26) and those with rosuvastatin 10 mg/day (Rosuvastatin group, n = 27). The primary end-point is postoperative AF (POAF), with an overall incidence of postoperative AF of 11.3%. Postoperative AF incidence was insignificantly different between the atorvastatin and rosuvastatin groups (7.7% vs. 14.8%; p = 0,669). Our study indicated that atorvastatin had a similar protective effect to rosuvastatin in terms of post-operative AF prevention. Keywords: statin, post-operative AF

Abstract

Abstract: The implementation of COVID-19 protocols by staying away from crowded places has a negative impact on the world of health, especially blood services. The decrease in the number of blood donors affected many patients who may have died or suffered as a result of blood delivery to the hospital not being reached. This study looked at how much influence the COVID-19 pandemic had on the number of blood donors at the Blood Transfusion Unit, Indonesian Red Cross of Banda Aceh City. This type of research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional survey design. For the interpretation of the results using a degree of meaningfulness with a significant degree, namely ? of 5% with a note of P? (0.05) then Ho is rejected, while if P ? (0.05) then Ho is accepted. Results and Discussion. In this study, the data compared was the number of blood donors for the periods 2019 and 2020. The results showed that there was a decrease in the number of blood donors, reaching 12.7% in the 2020 period compared to the 2019 period. The Mann-Whitney test showed a P-value of 0.038 (P 0.05), which means that Ho was accepted or there was a relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and the decrease in the number of donors at the Blood Transfusion Unit of the Indonesian Red Cross of Banda Aceh City in 2020. The decline in the number of donors occurred due to the large number of donor activities that were canceled, and many people were worried about being exposed to COVID-19 when donating blood. Keywords: Pandemic, COVID-19, Blood donation

Abstract

Abstract Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease which by definition is a condition where the systolic blood pressure is 130 mmHg or more and the diastolic blood pressure is more than 80mmHg. This disease is one of the risk factors for many diseases that exist in the world such as myocardial infarction, shock, kidney failure, and many more. Celery is a plant that can be used as medicine, its properties lower blood pressure. This study aims to analyze the effect of celery extract on lowering blood pressure in the elderly who have hypertension at the faith clinic. This study used an experimental study with pretest and posttest methods where the sample used was 36 samples which were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The sample is the elderly ( 55 years) who follow the chronic disease program at Iman Martubung Clinic. The results of this study indicate that the average decrease in blood pressure is 12.78 mmHg in systolic with an average systolic blood pressure of 141.6 mmHg pretest and posttest 128.8 mmHg, in diastolic there is an average decrease of 7.77 mmHg with the average diastolic blood pressure pretest was 82.7 mmHg and posttest was 75 mmHg in the experimental group, while in the control group there was a significant increase in blood pressure. These results are also supported by non-parametric statistical tests, with a significance value of p value value with a significance level of = 0.005. The significance value based on the Wilcoxon statistical test was 0.001 on systolic blood pressure and 0.001 on diastolic blood pressure. There is an effect of celery extract (Apium gravolens Linn) on reducing blood pressure in the elderly at Iman clinic.
