Abstract

The developments of school infrastructure that provides and involves computersin learning encourage teachers to adapt the use of these advanced technologies. The intended form of adaptation is through e-learning. Questionnaires were given to 43 elementary school teachers, who were able to operate computers, randomly selected to describe e-learning concept that they understood and applied. Although the majority of them mention e-learning specifically as learning involving computers in their implementation, and assuming they have implemented e-learning, they basically apply blended learning. Computers were used as a complementary medium, not the main. Through the results of the survey conducted, we discussed a gap between the perceptions of elementaryschool teachers believed with the actual concept of e-learning. Through the discussion, we also obtained a picture of how the actual application of e-learning by teachers is blended learning. Suggestions on the urgency of implementing e-learning in elementary school are also included.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate Indonesian in-service elementary teachers’ knowledge on fraction by their responses to contextual problems on multiplication of a fraction by a whole number (O1) and multiplication of a fraction by a fraction (O2). Fifty Indonesian in-service elementary teachers from Elementary School for Teacher Education study program, University of Riau, participated in this research in 2015. This research is based on anthropologicaltheory of the didactic (ATD), in particular praxeology, as a framework to analysethe data. The result showed that only 22% of Indonesian in-service elementary teachers have a satisfactory relation to O1 and 64% of them have succeeded on the problems related to O2.

What must teachers in elementary school know about it? What systemic conditions are important or even necessary to teachers’ and students’ success in teaching and learning fractions? What kind of research can enlighten us on these matters?
