Abstract

This paper discusses the effect of an interactive engagement strategy using Quizizz on students' critical thinking skills on chemical bonding material. This research used a quasi-experimental design because not all factors influencing learning can be controlled. This research was conducted in two experimental classes, the experimental and the control classes. The experimental class was given treatment in the form of an interactive engagement strategy using Quizlet. And the control class was given conventional model treatment. The sampling technique in this research is purposive sampling, which considers the homogeneity of the sample (class). The experimental and control class samples were 29 students from class X at MAN 1 Pekanbaru. The research results show that the ability to infer, namely making conclusions and presenting problems, dominates with the highest percentage value of 85%. On the other hand, analytical skills, which involve finding causes, assessing impacts, and predicting further impacts, recorded the lowest percentage with 50%. Overall, the average percentages for the four indicators reached 67.5%, which is in the good category. The Independent Sample T-Test statistical test, with a significance value (sig) of 0.000, revealed a significant difference in scientific literacy abilities between experimental and control class students. Of the N-Gain analysis, it is known that the average gain score for critical thinking skills in the experimental class (0.50 or 50%) is in the medium category, while the control class only reached 0.30 (30%), which is included in the low category. This shows a more significant increase in learning outcomes for critical thinking skills in the experimental class compared to the control class.

Abstract

An effective educational curriculum must integrate the development of students' knowledge and character, especially for facing the challenges of the modern era. Based on these needs, the full fulfilment curriculum was developed to combine aspects of academic knowledge with character formation through deep learning approaches, namely Mindful Learning, Meaningful Learning, and Joyful Learning. The present study aims to explore the effectiveness of the full fulfilment curriculum in improving the learning quality and shaping students' character through positive behaviours, such as healthy living habits and society. This approach is designed so that students not only receive theoretical knowledge, but also engage in holistic self-development, which includes physical, social, and emotional aspects. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and document analysis as data collection. The sample consisted of students and teachers at several schools, implementing this curriculum. Data analysis was carried out by referring to the theories of character education and active learning approaches to ensure the relevance and success of the curriculum. The research results show that the full fulfilment curriculum is effective in helping students to learn deeply and forming good habits, such as waking up early, worshipping, exercising, loving to study, eating healthy, socialising, and sleeping on time. In addition, five main strategies—counselling guidance training, teacher competency improvement, character building, appointment of BK teachers, and a nutritious lunch program—play a significant role in supporting the implementation of this curriculum. The full fulfilment curriculum offers a holistic approach and emphasizes a balance between knowledge and character-building in a supportive educational environment. These findings contribute to the modern curriculum development that is more adaptive to the needs of today's students. Hopefully, this curriculum can be widely applied to achieve sustainable and holistic educational outcomes.

Abstract

This paper documents the assessment of self-confidence related to student public speaking skills among BK UNP students because good public speaking is supported by good self-confidence. The research was carried out using a mixed method through the research instruments of questionnaires supported by interviews and observations from 50 students taken at random. The questionnaire has been validated with content and empirical validities and produced a validity index of 0.85 and a reliability index of 0.90. This research result reveals that BK UNP students have good self-confidence when they apply public speaking. Based on the interview and observation results conducted on students, it was found that students should have preparation for appearing in public, either in terms of preparing the material they want to convey and their needs when appearing and overcoming anxiety or before appearing and knowing some common words used by listeners. Due to the limitations of researchers, we only discuss one factor that supports female students' public speaking, self-confidence. It is recommended that future researchers conduct research related to public speaking skills in more depth and breadth by looking at other factors that influence public speaking skills and the methods used to improve public speaking skills.
