Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of blended learning model with telegram application on students’ critical thinking skills and learning outcomes for social studies subjects at fifth grade of SDN Semambung Sidoarjo. The blended learning model with the telegram application was carried out online and offline; this also became a solution due to the Covid-19 pandemic so that the learning process could still be carried out. This research was an experimental research with a pretest post test control group design. The subject of this research was the fifth grade students of SDN Semambung Sidoarjo. Data were collected through critical thinking ability test and learning outcomes tests. Furthermore, the data were tested by using validity and reliability tests, while the learning tools were tested by expert validation. Data analysis test was conducted through normality test and homogeneity test. The analytical technique used was t test. The results of this study indicated that (1) there was an effect of blended learning model with telegram application on the students’ critical thinking skills at fifth grade elementary school in social studies subject; (2) there was an effect of blended learning model with telegram application on the students’ learning outcomes at the fifth grade elementary school in social studies subject. For teachers who faced problems in implementing online learning accompanied by low critical thinking skills and students’ learning outcomes, it was recommended to use a blended learning model with telegram application.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking has not been maximally trained in learning since learning activities are only memorizing to meet the demands of passing the assessment. Students are less able to understand, build, and criticize arguments about a problem, especially in social studies learning. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of comic media material about human interaction with the environment to improve the critical thinking skills of fifth grade students. This type of research was research and development (Research and Development) with a 4D model. This research was conducted online using Zoom platform, Google Forms, and Ms. Teams that was carried out synchronously and asynchronously due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Data were collected through the expert validation stage and observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and critical thinking tests (pretest and posttest) for the teacher and student activity. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by quantitative and descriptive techniques. The results showed that: (1) comic media was in the very feasible category with a percentage of 82%, (2) it was practical based on teacher activity observations with a percentage of 94% with very active category, 95% for student activity with very active category, and student response questionnaires was 93% with very good category, (3) it was effective based on the result of N-gain on the critical thinking test, which was 0.53 (medium category). Thus, comic media in social studies learning was declared valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills at fifth grade of elementary school.

Abstract

Basic teaching skills are related to some basic and inherent abilities or skills that every teacher must possess and actualize (Mulyasa, 2013; Achdiani and Rusliyani, 2017). For this reason, training was carried out by using Zoom meetings through the Class Action research method in two cycles. The research was conducted at SDN 017 Sungai Gantang, Kecamatan Kempas, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir which involved 9 (nine) teachers. The research was conducted for 3 months from March to May 2020. The results of the research in cycle I found that the teacher's ability in teaching skills at SDN 017 Sungai Gantang, Kecamatan Kempas, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir was categorized as good, but there was one teacher who was still in the sufficient category in the skill of asking questions with a score of 65. It was seen that the asking question skills were not seen, in which the teacher asked for explanations and provided the stimulus to students. Similarly, in the next component, namely the skills of opening and closing lessons, there were some teachers who were still missing due to network constraints so they forgot to give openings in lessons. Data in cycle II illustrated that there were 3 teachers got a good category in teaching and 3 teachers got a very good category in doing online learning. This was the impact of training on teaching skills carried out by school principals as a routine activity in improving teachers’ professionalism.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of information technology-based flipped classroom learning model on creativity and learning outcomes for grade four Civics at SDN Bligo. This research was an experimental research with a pretest posttest control group design. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students of SDN Bligo Sidoarjo. Data collection techniques were conducted through creativity tests and learning outcomes tests. Furthermore, the data were tested using validity and reliability tests, while the learning tools were tested through expert validation. The requirements of data analysis included normality tests and homogeneity tests. The analytical technique used was the t-test, which was carried out twice: first to determine the initial conditions (pretest) of the experimental and control groups, and second to determine the condition after being given treatment (posttest). The results showed that (1) there was an effect of the information technology-based flipped classroom learning model on students’ creativity in Civics education at the fourth grade of elementary school, and (2) there was an effect of the information technology-based flipped classroom learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Civics education at the fourth grade of elementary school. In short, this learning model could be used as a solution for learning from home or online learning implemented due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that most of the learning processes were not in accordance with the characteristics of elementary school students, which impacted the quality of learning at schools that did not achieve the learning goals. The learning process included planning, implementing, and assessing by the primary school teachers. The purpose of this study was to improve teachers’ skills in carrying out the learning process by using a cooperative model of Think Talk Write type. This research was a school action research adapted from McTaggart and Kemmis's classroom action research design, consisting of stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was carried out at SDN 23 Ujung Gurun Padang, involving 10 teachers. Data were collected using observation sheets to measure the results of the learning process, including planning skills, implementation abilities, and assessment abilities, and analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that the teachers’ average score in carrying out the learning process using the Think Talk Write type cooperative model in cycle I was 68.30, which increased to 85.46 in cycle II. This proved that there was an improvement in teachers’ skills in carrying out the learning process by using the Think Talk Write type cooperative model through academic supervision activities. The implication of this research is that this model can be used as a reference for academic supervisors to improve the quality of learning for elementary school teachers.

Abstract

This research was motivated by findings that the learning process of elementary school teachers did not align with the characteristics of effective learning. Observations revealed that teachers still relied on lesson plans downloaded from the internet, and their learning processes and assessments were not fully in accordance with curriculum demands, indicating the need for improvement. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of teachers’ skills in carrying out the learning process using a problem-centered learning model through academic supervision activities. This research was a school action research adapted from McTaggart and Kemmis's classroom action research design, consisting of stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted at SDN 28 Rawang Timur, Padang, involving 10 teachers. The results showed that teachers achieved an average skill score of 88.86 in cycle I and 83.59 in cycle II, indicating an improvement in teachers’ learning process skills through academic supervision. This study suggested that scheduling supervision in agreement with teachers is necessary to optimize its implementation. The implication of this research is that it can serve as a basis for supervisors to enhance the learning process skills of elementary school teachers.

Abstract

Organizing online learning for each educational unit and determining how to deliver learning to students can be done using social media. Choosing social media for learning is necessary because it transcends space and time, making communication with distant people easier. Therefore, it was important to train teachers in using WhatsApp as an alternative for learning through action research or school action research methods. This study involved 8 teachers at SDN 18 Bengkalis. The results showed that in Cycle I, teachers’ understanding of online learning reached an average of 51.13 in the sufficient category. After improvements and reflection from the first cycle, Cycle II showed an average of 73.13 in the good category. Teachers’ ability in learning during Cycle I was categorized as sufficient, while in Cycle II, 2 teachers reached the very good category and 6 teachers reached the good category. The study concluded that teachers’ ability in using WhatsApp for explaining, guiding, and assigning tasks improved from Cycle I to Cycle II.
