Abstract

Researchers have conducted research about the role of technology in teaching and learning process (Arthur, et al. 2008, Erben, et al. 2009, Kali and Linn. 2008, and Yang, 2005).  They found that the effectiveness of the students' learning and academic achievement can be greatly increased by the use of technology since technology provides opportunities to make the language learning more enjoyable, productive and effective. E-learning material is one of the technologies that can be used by English teachers to support their teaching instructions. This article is aimed at introducing a strategy for teaching reading through e-learning material and providing theoretical and empirical proofs about the benefits and the problems in e-learning material in reading class. However, in order to get the optimum result of integrating the technology in teaching English as a foreign language, a proper teaching strategy is urgently needed. Thus, this article covers: definition of teaching strategy and e-learning and each component, strategy of e-learning, benefit of e-learning, e-learning program, and distance learning. Through the use of media technology, it is hoped it could improve the quality of teaching and learning processes.

Abstract

This article argues the importance of designing tourism book of Kalimantan Barat to support extensive reading activities in Universitas Tanjungpura, Pontianak-Indonesia. Amid the vast development of educational and information technology and creative change of learning strategies, more materials that are presented in creative ways are required to support learning in universities. Based on a critical investigation on five aspects, the writers concluded that books on local tourism, particularly in the scope of Kalimantan Barat (West Kalimantan or West Borneo), are required to support students’ extensive reading activities in Universitas Tanjungpura. The five factors cover the significance, the extensive reading theory, the language teaching materials theory, the gaps between needs and availability (supplies), and the potential contribution to the university’s vision accomplishment.

Abstract

 The 2003 Act of the Republic of Indonesia on the National Education System suggests the teachers' responsibility for maintaining the Indonesian national culture, rooted in the values of religion and local wisdom. As textbooks are generally considered to be the major source of the teaching materials, they have an important role in integrating cultures or cultural elements in the teaching and learning process. This study investigated cultural content in two English textbooks. This study aimed to find out the percentage of local culture integration and target culture integration in two English textbooks “Bahasa Inggris” by Ministry of Education and “Forward” by Erlangga, especially about how cultures represented in pictures in both of books. This research design was a content analysis with 76 paragraph and 105 pictures as the study data. The procedure of analyzing the data started by classifying the data into local or target culture division, then it was analyzed based on Byram’s cultural content checklist (1993) while the pictures were simply classified into local culture or target culture. The result of the analysis was made in the form of a percentage, it concluded that from two-course books analyzed in this study, Bahasa Inggris are now aware in promoting local culture and Forward still have lack of local cultural content inserted in the books.

Abstract

 Mastering vocabulary is always a challenge for Indonesian learners, and this is the issue that the researcher that tried to seek a feasible solution in this research. The aim was to find out how Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy could improve students' enthusiasm for learning vocabulary. For that purpose, a classroom action research designed to be conducted in this study. The researcher utilized observation checklist, field note and vocabulary test to be used in two cycles in this research. This research result showed a positive result about Vocabulary Self-collection as the strategy to improve both students’ enthusiasm in their connection with learning vocabulary. In addition, the researcher recommended that this learning strategy can also be applied in teaching vocabulary in the classroom.

Abstract

Kajian ini merupakan satu tinjauan awal tentang keberkesanan gambaran visual dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran mengenal huruf di sekolah prasekolah. Reka bentuk kajian ini ialah berdasarkan kuasi eksperimen dengan menggunakan ujian pra-ujian pos. Kumpulan murid prasekolah yang terlibat diberi dua set ujian pra iaitu mengenal huruf dan ujian pasca mengenal huruf, seterusnya kumpulan murid prasekolah ini diajar topik mengenal huruf dengan strategi gambaran visual. Seramai 22 orang murid-murid prasekolah akan terlibat sebagai responden dalam kajian ini. Hasil kajian yang telah dijalankan mendapati gambaran visual berkesan dan berjaya meningkatkan kemahiran murid dalam mengenal dan menulis abjad A hingga Z dengan baik. Cadangan kajian daripada dapatan kajian difokuskan kepada tenaga pengajar, pendedahan pembelajaran interaktif dalam kalangan guru-guru sekolah kebangsaan, pengalaman yang mereka miliki tentang model dan kesediaan guru-guru untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran interaktif berdasarkan visual dalam proses pengajaran mereka.

Abstract

The present research was designed to investigate how the students of the Master’s Study Program of English Language Education perceived their lecturers’ competencies. They were pedagogical, professional, personal, and social competencies. The data were collected from 24 students from the relevant study program through a questionnaire. The data were analysed with simple statistics. The research showed that most students perceived their lecturers’ competencies ‘good’ to ‘very good’. Of the 4 competencies investigated, the highest perception was given by the students to personality competency and the least was the social competency. These findings could be inferred that the students paid very good attention to their lecturers during their teaching-learning activities.

Abstract

 Suicide is a global phenomenon found throughout the region on earth. Suicide is one of the causes of death cases around the world, WHO reveals suicides in Indonesia have fluctuated from year to year. Education influences social roles and division of labor in social life so that someone feels needed in society and this affects the incidence of suicide. In Indonesia suicide often occurs among women both sexual abuse victims and domestic violence victims. The existence of traumatic experiences and feelings of shame towards society are often the main reasons why they often make suicide attempts. Government assistance and the legal umbrella for victims is needed and that is the government’s obligation. However, if the victim is unable to withstand traumatic experience and it becomes a burden of misery in the life of the victim. This paper aims to describe the relationship between the level of education, gender and the phenomenon of suicide.

Abstract

Sistem Informasi Manajemen (SIM) merupakan hal penting bagi suatu program studi. Penggunaan SIM dapat membantu suatu Program Studi dalam melakukan pengorganisasian data yang lebih baik sekaligus membuat keputusan yang tepat. Paper ini mendeskripsikan penyediaan data melalui SIM Biodata Mahasiswa untuk meningkatkan kemudahan pengolahan data Prodi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Untan. SIM diunggah ke dalam data sistem yang tersedia di Universitas. Ketersediaan SIM menjaring data 385 mahasiswa dari 451 total mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Untan angkatan 2012 hingga 2018. SIM biodata menampilkan data jumlah mahasiswa masing-masing angkatan, jenis kelamin, jalur masuk, agama, rata-rata IPK mahasiswa per angkatan, serta data pekerjaan orang tua mahasiswa. Data dapat digunakan untuk akreditasi, monitoring, evaluasi mahasiswa, dan perencanaan pengembangan program studi termasuk rencana strategis. SIM biodata Mahasiswa sebaiknya dihubungkan dengan Siakad Universitas dan disempurnakan. AbstractManagement Information Systems (MIS) is important for a Study Program. The use of MIS can help a Study Program in organizing better data while making the right decisions. This paper describes the provision of data through the MIS Biodata Students to increase the ease of processing the Biology Education Study Program of FKIP Untan. MIS is uploaded into system data available at the University. MIS availability captures data on 385 students from 451 total students of Biology Education Study Program class 2012 to 2018. The biodata MIS displays data on the number of students in each generation, gender, entry point, religion, average student GPA per generation, and parents’ job. Data can be used for accreditation, monitoring, student evaluation, and study program development planning including strategic plans. MIS Biodata Students should be connected with the University Academic and refined.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the effectiveness of the learning model in the Cooperative Teaching Group (TAI) in improving the learning motivation and learning outcomes of the Class XI IS students in the MA Darussalam District of Mempawah Sengkubang. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design (Quasi Experiment) research design. The population of this study was all students of XI IS class 93. The samples in this study were class X students of IS-1 as experimental classes and class X IS-2 as control class. The data in this study were processed by conclusion analysis. The results showed that the use of TAI's learning was effective in improving the motivation and learning outcomes of students in MA Darussalam, Mempawah District, Sengkubang.
