Abstract

Electricity is an essential need in almost all human activities, making it a vital component of everyday life. However, in the process of distributing it to customers, there is often a difference between the energy delivered and the energy sold, known as energy loss or shrinkage. This shrinkage can be categorized into two types, namely technical and non-technical shrinkage. PT PLN (Persero) uses the Jogja formula to map and analyze these two types of shrinkage, allowing a percentage comparison between technical and non-technical shrinkage. The focus of this research is on efforts to overcome non-technical shrinkage, especially in Muara Tebo ULP. PT PLN (Persero) implements preventive measures, including public education on the efficient and safe use of electrical energy, as well as the routine implementation of the Electricity Usage Control (P2TL). The purpose of these measures is to reduce non-technical losses that occur in the use of electricity. The results of the P2TL implementation in ULP Muara Tebo showed an increase in average kWh generation from 193,193 kWh in the January to May period to 216,582 kWh in June. This increase contributed significantly to the reduction of total shrinkage by 2.51% in June. This research confirms that a structured enforcement and education strategy can effectively improve energy distribution efficiency and reduce non-technical losses, supporting the overall operations of PT PLN (Persero). Keywords: energy loss, non-technical loss, formula jogja, P2TL

Abstract

The construction of government office buildings requires technical planning documents that comply with national standards. This study aims to evaluate the technical planning documents for the rehabilitation of the South Sumatra Settlement Infrastructure Agency (BPPW) Office Building, focusing on structural and material aspects based on Checklist SE DJCK 04 of 2022. A descriptive qualitative method was applied through document analysis and technical discussions. The evaluation covers legal compliance, building description, document completeness, normative references, material specifications, structural system, load analysis, structural calculation, and construction detailing. Results indicate that the planning documents generally meet technical standards, though some discrepancies were found, such as incomplete geological maps, absence of wind load analysis, and inconsistencies in material specifications across documents. In conclusion, the documents are deemed suitable as a project implementation guide, with recommended improvements in cartography, lateral load analysis, and cross-document harmonization. Suggestions are provided to enhance the integrity of technical documentation through normative updates and cross-validation to ensure optimal safety and construction quality. Keywords: Technical Evaluation, Building Structure, Material Specification, Checklist, Building Rehabilitation

Abstract

The widespread use of concrete in the construction industry contributes significantly to environmental degradation, primarily through CO₂ emissions from cement production and natural resource depletion for aggregate sourcing. This study investigates the feasibility of using seashell waste as a partial replacement for fine aggregate in concrete, aiming to maintain structural performance while promoting sustainability. A control concrete mix and an innovative mix incorporating seashell waste were prepared, with compressive strength tests conducted at 28 days. The results show that the seashell concrete achieved a compressive strength of 35.09 MPa, slightly surpassing the control concrete's 35 MPa. This minor increase is attributed to the calcium carbonate content of seashells, which contributes to a stable cementitious matrix similar to that of limestone. The findings suggest that seashell waste, abundant in coastal regions, can be effectively utilized as an eco-friendly alternative in concrete production without compromising structural integrity. By partially substituting fine aggregates with seashells, this study highlights a potential solution for reducing reliance on natural sand while supporting marine waste management. This research provides a basis for future studies on optimizing seashell content in concrete and exploring its durability under varying environmental conditions, contributing to sustainable construction practices.

Abstract

Abstract

Transmission system reliability is an essential factor in maintaining continuous power supply. Accurate and fast fault location identification is necessary to shorten repair time. This study compares two fault location determination methods, namely the Fault Locator based on Traveling Wave Signal (TWS) and the Distance Relay based on impedance on the 150 kV Teluk Kuantan–Rengat transmission line. The results show that the TWS method has a smaller error rate compared to the impedance method. The average error using TWS is 0.42%, while the impedance method shows 1.86%. Thus, the TWS method is more accurate and recommended for use in 150 kV transmission systems. Keywords: fault locator, traveling wave, distance relay, transmission system, fault location

Abstract

The global construction industry faces major challenges related to sustainability and environmental impact, particularly from the use of conventional Portland cement, which emits approximately 0.8 tons of CO₂ per ton of cement produced. As an environmentally friendly alternative, geopolymers have emerged as inorganic polymeric materials formed through the reaction of aluminosilicates with alkaline activators, offering the advantage of utilizing industrial by-products such as fly ash. Fly ash, which is rich in silica (SiO₂) and alumina (Al₂O₃), has been proven to produce materials with high compressive strength, chemical resistance, and excellent thermal stability. However, geopolymerization requires sodium silicate (Na₂SiO₃), which is often costly and dependent on imports in developing countries. The local synthesis of sodium silicate from silica sand is therefore an essential solution, as previous studies have shown comparable effectiveness to commercial sodium silicate. Moreover, the development of instant geopolymer cement in the form of ready-to-use dry powder offers greater efficiency, longer shelf life, and ease of distribution. Based on these considerations, this research was conducted under the title “Development of Instant Geopolymer Cement Based on Fly Ash with Sodium Silicate from Silica Sand” to explore the potential of an environmentally friendly and practical construction material innovation. Keywords: Geopolymer Cement, Fly Ash, Sodium Silicate, Silica Sand, Sustainable Construction

Abstract

Delays are a frequent challenge in construction projects, often arising from a combination of internal and external factors. This study focuses on analyzing delays in the Krembung–Mojoruntut Road Improvement Project in Sidoarjo Regency. A quantitative approach was adopted, utilizing the Earned Value Management (EVM) method to assess both cost and time performance. Data were collected from contract documents, S-curves, daily reports, and weekly progress updates spanning 27 weeks of project implementation. The analysis centered on three key indicators: Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled (BCWS), Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP), and Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP). The findings reveal that the project experienced delays almost every week, with varying degrees of deviation, necessitating two schedule addendums. In the 26th week, the Schedule Performance Index (SPI) was 0.96, indicating a slight lag behind schedule, while the Cost Performance Index (CPI) was 1.05, showing that the project remained cost-efficient. The estimated total cost at completion (Estimate at Completion/EAC) was Rp10,067,384,650.67, slightly below the original contract value, while the estimated completion time (Estimate at Schedule/EAS) aligned with the revised target, thanks to the additional time granted through the addendums. Key factors contributing to the delays included late material procurement, adverse weather conditions, and less-than-optimal workforce management (Kharina Sambowo; Mahapatni Putra, 2022).Keywords: Project Delay, Estimate At Completion, Estimate At Schedule

Abstract

During peak load conditions, significant voltage drops are observed in the Dumai transmission subsystem. The minimum voltages recorded at the Dumai, Bagan Siapi-api, and Dumai Industrial Area substations are 134.7 kV, 133.0 kV, and 131.1 kV, respectively, exceeding the permissible voltage deviation limits. To mitigate this condition, a shunt capacitor is designed and evaluated through modeling and simulation. Analytical and DigSILENT PowerFactory 2021 simulation results indicate that a 25 MVAR shunt capacitor installed at the Bagan Siapi-api Substation provides the most suitable compensation. The installation increases the bus voltage by 8.10 kV to 141.10 kV, corresponding to a voltage deviation of 5.93% from the nominal value. Furthermore, total system losses in the Riau subsystem are reduced from 20.63 MW and −352.8 MVAR to 19.88 MW and −366.8 MVAR, or reduction 0,75 MW. These results confirm that shunt capacitor integration effectively improves voltage profiles while reducing reactive power flow and system losses. Keywords: shunt capacitor, substation, voltage drop, DIgSILENT PowerFactory 2021, voltage improvement, system losses

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has encouraged the construction industry to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cost control through the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM). This study compares concrete volume calculations using the conventional two-dimensional method and the BIM-based approach with Autodesk Revit. The case study focuses on the construction of the Bank Mandiri Building in Palembang, a 12-storey reinforced concrete structure consisting of bored piles, pilecaps, columns, beams, and slabs. The conventional method involved identifying structural dimensions from AutoCAD drawings and calculating volumes using Microsoft Excel based on geometric formulas, while the BIM method was conducted by developing a three-dimensional structural model in Revit and extracting quantities through the schedule/quantities feature. The comparison was analysed by calculating the percentage difference between both methods. The results show that the overall difference in concrete volume is 0.1599%, indicating a relatively small deviation. The average differences for bored piles and pilecaps are minimal, while columns, beams, and slabs show slightly higher variations, with beams and slabs presenting the largest discrepancies. These differences are mainly influenced by modelling details, drawing interpretation, rounding processes, and potential human error in both approaches. Overall, the findings demonstrate that BIM provides accurate and efficient quantity estimation; however, its reliability depends on the modeller’s precision. Therefore, both conventional and BIM methods remain complementary and can be used together to enhance accuracy and minimise errors in concrete volume estimation.  Keywords: Quantity-Takeoff, BIM, Concrete
