Abstract

The Arabic language is widely recognized for its complexity and richness. It is distinguished by a sophisticated grammatical and rhetorical system that enables it to precisely convey a wide range of meanings. One linguistic phenomenon that has captured scholars' attention throughout history is the concept of "hammal ‘ala al-laugh wal hammal ‘ala al-mana" (literal and contextual interpretation). This phenomenon illustrates how language can combine the grammatical structure of phrases (form) with the intended meaning or context (content), creating a unique balance between grammatical rules and rhetorical creativity. In the modern era, with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and its various tools, Natural Language Processing (NLP) has emerged as a leading field of research focusing on understanding and analyzing languages using AI technologies. Despite significant advancements in this field, with its complexity and rich structure, Arabic poses a considerable challenge for these models, particularly in dealing with linguistic phenomena that rely on context and meaning, such as literal and contextual interpretation. This research bridges the gap between the rich Arabic linguistic heritage and modern technological advancements, opening new horizons for developing innovative tools to understand the Arabic language deeply. It also contributes to enhancing modern linguistic studies by demonstrating how AI can benefit from the depth of the Arabic linguistic tradition. The research aims to offer scientific contributions in applying AI techniques to study linguistic phenomena, expanding the use of AI in processing Arabic texts, which serves linguistic studies. While few studies combine these traditional phenomena with modern technological applications, the research can be categorized into two areas: traditional studies, which explore the concept of literal and contextual interpretation, and modern technical studies, which focus on challenges in Arabic language processing, particularly machine translation.

Abstract

This research explores one of the fundamental principles of terminology and the extent of the Arabic language’s influence on Islamic legal terms. It focuses on Hisbah, which has become widely associated with "enjoining good and forbidding evil." Moreover, this research highlights the significant linguistic legacy found in the literature of hisbah, especially in practical manuals that described the duties of the hisbah authority. This study uses a descriptive approach, which is based on the description of phenomena that help understand and identify important aspects of the best way to correct student errors. Data collection techniques use observation and documentation. In addition, it links the verses of the Quran mentioned in the study with their context in the Quran and authenticates the hadith from the source. These works not only documented the actions of the muhtasib (market inspector or moral enforcer), but also served as guides for implementation. They employed specific expressions, phrases, and terms that later influenced Arabic lexicography. The influence of Arabic on Islamic terminology and the relationship between linguistic vocabulary Hisbah as a term is an example and model that explains this influence, relationship, and combination. It is a term used to refer to a person who performs the amar ma'ruf nahi munkar function. The word “Hisbah” does not appear in the Qur'an or Sunnah as a term used to indicate a Muslim's duty to amar ma'ruf nahi munkar. Hisbah has several meanings in language: asking for reward, denying, management, and consideration. You say: So and so has good hisbah, meaning he has good management, sufficiency, and consideration.

Abstract

The Holy Qur’an was revealed as a guide and a beacon for all humanity. Each sura offers moral and spiritual direction through reflection and contemplation. This study contributes to Arabic language teaching by showing how Surat At-Tur's vocabulary, structure, and rhetorical features can enhance learners’ proficiency in classical Arabic. The study focuses on the practical lessons of Surat At-Tur, emphasizing its role in guiding belief, behavior, worship, and ethics—particularly in response to modern atheistic and anti-Islamic narratives disguised as progress and civilization. It also highlights the sura’s relevance to contemporary issues facing Muslims in Western and non-Muslim societies, including the importance of family cohesion and moral resilience. The research identifies educational insights that extend beyond religious instruction using inductive, analytical, and deductive methods. It presents Surat At-Tur as a source of holistic guidance that speaks to personal development and societal well-being. In conclusion, the sura offers valuable spiritual formation and language education content. Its enduring relevance lies in its ability to address modern challenges while deepening engagement with Qur’anic Arabic, making it a beneficial resource for educators, students, and community leaders.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide additional supporting evidence for the Equative Approach by reducing the taxonomy of copular clauses into just two categories: predicational and equative. Data from copular structures in Standard Arabic are presented to bolster this approach. These data reveal that Standard Arabic features two distinct lexical copulas: (1) an inflected verbal copula, "kaana," and (2) a pro copula. A detailed examination of these two copular structures shows that the verbal copula is exclusively utilized in predicational clauses. In contrast, the pro copula is designated explicitly for equative clauses. This delineation indicates that the semantics of copular constructions cannot be adequately captured solely by the single-be analysis advocated by the Inverse Approach. Instead, an approach positing two copulas, one for prediction and one for equation, is deemed necessary, thereby advocating for the equivalent approach.

Abstract

This study explored the strategies of the speech acts of request and the supportive moves employed in WhatsApp messages in the workplace by instructors with their superiors.  The speech act of request has been investigated broadly in Arabic in face-to-face communication. However, few of these studies explored the use of requests in online communication and the workplace. This topic is important to study because it is sensitive and can lead to misunderstanding and miscommunication and threaten relationships in the workplace. Therefore, a total number of 82 WhatsApp messages were collected from 30 males and 52 females of Arabic native speakers at a university in Saudi Arabia. The messages were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to explore strategies, supportive moves, and gender differences regarding acting at the request of their superiors. The results found that the instructors in the workplace employed direct and indirect strategies of request. However, indirect strategies were the most frequent, especially when using strong hints. Different supportive moves were also used, but the greeting was the most frequent way to show solidarity with superiors. The instructors used grounders more than IFID and imposition minimizers to mitigate supportive moves. The influence of gender was found in the indirect strategies primarily used by females than males, alongside the supportive moves. The latter was used more frequently than the request strategies to mitigate the request, reflecting instructors' awareness of pragmatic competence when making requests. That was used to avoid misunderstanding, maintain relationships, and accomplish communicative goals with superiors in the workplace.

Abstract

This research examines the denotative linguistic oppositions and their doctrinal dimensions in Arabic texts. It is applied on the Meccan Surat Al-Duha. This topic emerges from the linguistic differentiation of its types and doctrinal dimensions by inserting the word and its opposite, mentioning the factor deleting its direct object, and mediating between the word and what it asks for. In the case of oath, the condition is mediated between its elements; in the superlative style, the description is mediated between the preferred and the preferred upon, while in the negative style, the subject is mediated between its events. It presents a linguistic, semantic, rhetorical, and doctrinal analysis of the methods of denotative linguistic oppositions in the Arabic text, combining the rules of Arabic grammar, the methods of Arabic rhetoric, and the purposes of faith, highlighting the apparent commonness with its dimensions and types under study. This study adopts a qualitative analytical approach based on descriptive and interpretive methods. The analysis is rooted in both linguistic and rhetorical examination of Surat Al-Duha, supported by classical and modern Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir). The analytical linguistic, semantic, doctrinal, and initiative approach was inspired by it, leading to the occurrence of denotative linguistic correspondence with its doctrinal dimensions in Arabic texts in a single verbal manner and a definite syntactic manner in the two types of declarative and constructional linguistic styles, with what it entails in the style of oath, negation, interrogative, prohibition, and command. This study recommends dealing with linguistic texts in the light of denotative linguistic oppositions, with their various doctrinal dimensions, as a type of metasynthetic analysis. The analysis transforms the structure according to the many grammatical, rhetorical, and doctrinal meanings they indicate within the limits of what the text permits and accepts in a linguistic setting and an authentic interpretive law.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of 3D First-Person Shooter (FPS) gamification on Arabic learning for Integrated Islamic elementary school (SDIT) students. The primary goal is to assess how this interactive learning medium improves students' Arabic language proficiency and to evaluate the satisfaction levels of both students and teachers. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. Pretest-posttest assessments are used to measure students' progress before and after engaging with the gamified media, while questionnaires capture satisfaction and feedback from participants. Results show a significant improvement in students' Arabic vocabulary, with average scores increasing from 74.1 in the pre-test to 89.2 in the post-test. A paired sample t-test confirmed the improvement as statistically significant (p < 0.001). The results of surveys showed high satisfaction levels, with students expressing motivation and enthusiasm for learning and teachers recognizing the game’s relevance and effectiveness in classroom settings. These findings suggest that 3D FPS-based gamification enhances Arabic language learning in Islamic elementary schools. The study recommends further exploration of gamification techniques in Arabic education at various academic levels.
