Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of One Thousand and One Nights on Chinese folk tales, with a focus on the literary and cultural relationship between the Arab and Chinese heritages during the Tang Dynasty period (700 CE–907 CE). The research problem arises from the scarcity of studies addressing this influence, especially in the literature of Chinese minorities impacted by One Thousand and One Nights. The study seeks to answer several key questions, including defining One Thousand and One Nights and Chinese folk tales, exploring how One Thousand and One Nights influenced this type of literature, and analyzing the objective and subjective factors that contributed to this influence, with particular attention to three Chinese folk tales influenced by One Thousand and One Nights. To achieve these objectives, the researcher employs two primary methodologies: the descriptive method, to illustrate the influence of three tales from One Thousand and One Nights on three Chinese folk tales by highlighting their content, and the analytical method, to examine the factors contributing to this influence and reveal the literary background of both Arab and Chinese traditions during that era.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a Nahwu textbook integrated with authentic material for kitab kuning reading skills using the Graves model. This study's research and development procedure follows Graves' instructional material development model tailored to field conditions. It is used in five stages: needs analysis, goal setting, content conceptualization, material selection, and content and activity organization. Data was collected through questionnaires from 10 students, one Nahwu teacher, and one expert, then analyzed descriptively. The results show a clear need for Nahwu books to integrate mastery of rules and classical text reading skills. According to the pesantren curriculum, this book was developed to improve Kitab Kuning's mastery of Nahwu rules and reading skills. The content is compiled based on the Nahwu Ta’limiy approach, which integrates linguistic elements to support the skills of reading the Kitab Kuning. The teaching materials are taken from Ajrumiyah's book and Kitab Kuning (Islamic classical texts), which follow the pesantren tradition. The book is arranged thematically with exercises and drill methods to reinforce learning. Expert and teacher evaluations show that this book is practical and follows the curriculum without revision. The trial on students showed explicit, relevant material and exercises to help master Nahwu and read the Kitab Kuning effectively. This study confirms that grammar learning for non-native speakers cannot be separated from other linguistic elements, such as vocabulary, or language skills, such as reading, which are the ultimate goal of language learning.

Abstract

Arabic is one of the oldest and richest languages in the world. However, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digitizing this language faces unique challenges, especially in syntax and morphology. This study discusses the problems AI applications face in processing and analyzing Arabic syntax and morphology, focusing on the technical and linguistic challenges that hinder the complete success of these applications. The researcher uses a descriptive-analytical approach, both qualitative and quantitative, which is done by collecting information/samples, selecting respondents, and analyzing information/samples—the complexity of morphology and syntax. Results: Arabic is characterized by a complex morphological and syntactic system, where many rules are not easily aligned with simple computational models. This includes verb conjugation, various sentence structures, and context-dependent pronouns. Diversity of forms and structures: Arabic words have many morphological forms used in different contexts, leading to differences in meaning. This variability makes machine translation and text analysis very challenging. Challenges in processing Arabic sentences: Arabic sentences differ from sentences in other languages regarding word order and pronouns, making it difficult for AI applications to interpret and extract meaning accurately. Limited resources: although there are some tools and libraries for Arabic, they are still limited compared to other languages , such as English, which reduces the effectiveness of models that can be used in applications. Processing methods; use of advanced machine learning techniques: By relying on machine learning techniques such as deep neural networks and big data analysis, models capable of understanding more complex linguistic structures can be developed. In developing large linguistic databases, it is essential to create databases that include a rich syntactic and morphological framework covering the vast diversity of Arabic, helping in model training and improving their accuracy. Research on hybrid approaches: combining traditional AI techniques with rule-based syntactic and morphological methods can help enhance sentence translation and analysis. Improved contextual processing: by developing models that handle texts in a broader context, errors can be reduced due to narrow interpretations or multiple meanings. Therefore, enhancing AI applications in the digitization of Arabic requires special attention to address the linguistic and technical challenges associated with syntax and morphology. Effective solutions can be developed through collaboration between linguists and AI engineers to make these applications more accurate and suitable for various uses in fields such as education, translation, and research.

Abstract

Proficiency in Arabic has become a significant priority for pupils in Government-Aided Religious Schools, as it constitutes a fundamental objective of Arabic language education in Malaysia. Proficiency in this skill is essential and is evaluated during oral examinations. Obstacles to attaining this competency frequently stem from students' dispositions, inadequate pedagogical methods, and external influences. This study seeks to ascertain the levels of Arabic speaking competency and the tactics for mastering this talent that can be implemented, particularly by students and educators, with assistance from the surrounding environment. This study utilizes a qualitative methodology, including semi-structured interviews for data acquisition. A total of 35 students from government-aid religious Schools in peninsular Malaysia were chosen as responders by purposive sampling. The gathered data will undergo thematic analysis with Atlas.ti software. Research reveals three tiers of Arabic speaking skills among students: weak, moderate, and proficient. This study indicates that successful ways to develop Arabic speaking abilities encompass repetitive practice, environmental support, active engagement in extracurricular activities, background knowledge, and motivation. Therefore, Arabic speaking abilities must be refined to attain a proficient level of fluency using efficient and interactive mastery techniques, enhancing the capability of students to utilize Arabic successfully in everyday conversation and promoting reciprocal communication in the classroom.

Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the interdisciplinary intersections of the linguistic and educational perspectives in the Hadith of Gabriel and how to utilize the linguistic and educational implications within this Hadith to develop the educational context through an in-depth interdisciplinary reading from both the linguistic and educational perspectives. This reflects the importance of the linguistic component in the prophetic explanation of this Hadith in enhancing the educational environment. A descriptive-analytical approach was used to review previous research and studies on Hadith analysis. The linguistic structure was analyzed from four aspects: lexical implications, rhetorical implications, pragmatic implications of its terms, and verbal and non-verbal communication mechanisms. The inductive approach was used to extract the educational reflections of these aspects, supported by clear evidence. In presenting the results, the PEEL qualitative analysis method (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link) was used to analyze the results of the qualitative research. The research findings resulted in a set of linguistic mechanisms at the levels of lexicon, rhetoric, pragmatics, and communication used in the Hadith of Gabriel, which had various educational implications related to stimulating learning motivation, classroom management, formulating oral questions, diversifying stimuli, reinforcement, and lesson closure. The research also highlighted utilizing these mechanisms to develop the educational context.

Abstract

Love is a universal concept that has captivated philosophers and thinkers across different eras and cultures. Nasaruddin Umar, as a contemporary Islamic thinker, offers a comprehensive perspective on love through his concept known as the Curriculum of Love. This research aims to reconstruct the meaning of love based on Nasaruddin Umar’s Curriculum of Love using a socio-linguistics semantic approach, focusing on the linguistics and social meanings embedded within this concept. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method by semantically analyzing the narrative of “LOVE” in Nasaruddin Umar’s Curriculum of Love to reveal the domains of meaning contained within the concept of love. Furthermore, the research explores the social and cultural dimensions shaping this concept from a socio-linguistic perspective. This research examines fundamental issues such as the relationship between love and Arabic language education, the correlation between spiritual and emotional aspects, and the extent to which cultural and social contexts influence this theory. The findings indicate that Nasaruddin Umar redefines love as a holistic condition that transcends mere emotional dimensions to encompass spiritual, ethical, social, and educational aspects. Additionally, his language reflects an integration of Islamic Sufi heritage with modern concepts, making his ideas a synthesis of traditional and contemporary thought. Through socio-linguistics analysis, it is found that the cultural context of Islam influences the concept of love in Nasaruddin Umar’s theory and embodies values of tolerance, compassion, and harmony in interpersonal and societal relationships. According to this theory, this research concludes that love is not merely an individual emotion but also an epistemological and ethical system that plays a vital role in constructing human and social relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. This research recommends further studies to explore other dimensions of the Curriculum of Love within various philosophical and religious contexts to enrich the understanding of love in contemporary thought.

Abstract

This study explores the potential of comparative literature as a field that can be effectively integrated into interdisciplinary studies. It examines the various disciplines that intersect with comparative literary studies and are often included in comparative analysis. It also investigates the concept of “image” in comparative literature, providing examples of how this old idea interacts with contemporary theoretical frameworks. Using an analytical-inductive approach, the study reaches several key findings: it identifies the interdisciplinary potential inherent in comparative literature because of its unique nature, its historical emergence in early 19th-century Europe, and its focus on the analysis of literary works written in different languages, comparative literature has exceptional opportunities for collaboration with other disciplines—opportunities not available in other fields. One of the most influential critical studies of East-West relations has significantly shaped studies across disciplines. It underscores the importance of image studies in comparative literature and its relationship to various academic disciplines through modern theoretical perspectives.

Abstract

Arabic verbs are formed by adding components to indicate number, gender, and tense. The mastery of verb formation in the present tense (fi'il muḍāri') is still weak among students. This study aims to identify the types of errors in forming fi'il muḍāri' and to analyze the factors that lead to these errors. This study is qualitative in nature, using a content analysis design. Data was collected through document analysis by examining 108 scripts of final exam answers from students enrolled in the Arabic Language Level 1 course (PBU1133) at the Faculty of Education, Language, and Communication, UNIMAS. The data was analyzed using a descriptive and thematic approach assisted by NVivo software. The study found that students made several errors in forming fi'il muḍāri'. The factors contributing to these errors are that students are confused about the various Arabic grammar methods, have poor mastery of the aspects of Arabic orthography, and lack proficiency in the rules for forming the fi'il muḍāri'. The results of this study can serve as a guide in teaching and learning sessions to ensure that types of errors in the formation of fi'il muḍāri' can be avoided by placing special emphasis on the factors that contribute to these errors.

Abstract

This research aims to demonstrate the Sufi influences of the Egyptian colloquial poet Fouad Haddad, and these influences appeared in two forms: The first is the presence of Sufi scholars and poets, by bringing their ideas and poems to life by directly and indirectly quoting them in his poems and adding his spirit to them. As well as the presence of Sufi symbols and customs and his use of symbolism to express his appreciation for the idea of Sufism, its spirit, and its representation in his poetry. The researchers used the descriptive analytical approach to study the phenomenon of Sufism in the poetry of Fouad Haddad to solve the problem of the study, which was represented in the central question: How did the poet Fouad Haddad express his love for Sufism and how did he describe the spirit of Islamic Sufism, its scholars, and its poets? How did he use colloquial poetry to highlight the value and spirit of Islamic Sufism? The research concluded with a set of results, the most prominent of which is The emergence of Sufi influences, as more than one Sufi poet is present, either by his explicit name by calling upon one of his creative texts or even by invoking his method of praise or his style of divine love. These Sufi influences also appear in Fouad Haddad's creativity, with many symbols and styles of speech and expression. His use of the words of Sufis or their poets in a direct intentional quotation symbolizes an idea, vision, political or religious trend that the poet wants to convey to the recipient, hence the importance of this research.
