Abstract

Every language has rules, laws, and systems that govern it. Usually, the more advanced generations establish them automatically. Then circumstances immediately change them for the next generation, and something similar to violating these rules and laws occurs, and the pronunciation of words or their meanings change. If the old system is immune, the change is considered modern. This study uses a descriptive and analytical approach by collecting data presented in the book by Dr. Atef Fadl Muhammad, then describing it, analyzing it, and responding to its errors. Some researchers go too far in this regard and consider what they deny about the change as a common mistake, and perhaps they need to catch the fact that this is true in Arabic because it is a direct standard and a dividing line for truth and error. This study proves that much of what researchers imagine (and the book above is an example of researchers' blogs) is not a common mistake but is true, supported by something that eliminates doubt. Whatever is true about the Arabs is accurate, and whatever contradicts their words is false. The words of the Arabs do not have the same level of power, but we do not judge anything that comes from them as false, regardless of the level of control. From this, we have seen many things recorded as common language mistakes, but they are true, and this is what this study is based on. This study monitors the frequency of researchers describing words and methods as common mistakes, discussing them, and whether all that is observed is an honest mistake or a belief contrary to the truth. This study concluded that these are simply beliefs and not facts, as many things recorded as false are aspects of what is true.

Abstract

This research proposes a new semantic approach to enhance the understanding of Arabic text in the Quran context. The aim is to bridge the existing gap in interpretation, which primarily relies on semantic web ontology and the linguistic framework developed by Toshihiko Izutsu. This philosophical research seeks to provide new paradigms and transcend the conventional semantic. It argues for the adoption of five methodical steps to uncover the deeper meanings behind the literal text of the Quran: (a) textual context analysis, (b) situational context analysis, (c) integration of intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the Quran, (d) syntagmatic and paradigmatic analysis, and (e) constructing the meaning of the past and present. This new paradigm challenges the traditional semantic approach to the Quran and facilitates a deeper understanding.

Abstract

Arabic Language Education Study Program students must be able to write theses in Arabic. A common obstacle students face is relying on Google Translate to help them translate from Indonesian to Arabic. However, even though it is easy to use, Google Translate still has obstacles when measured using Larson's translation quality indicators. This study aims to improve the quality of Google Translate translation results for Arabic theses using an Android-based term dictionary. This study is a type of classroom action research carried out in 2 cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection procedures. Data collection was carried out through an assessment of the translation results of 22 students selected based on the criteria of being in the process of completing their thesis. The study results showed that of the 12 sub-indicators of translation quality, the aspects of equivalence and suitability of the source and target languages were the lowest quality. Using an Android-based term dictionary significantly reduced error scores and improved translation quality compared to Google Translate as a translation machine. However, the dictionary does not match the efficiency or time savings the translation machine provides. Furthermore, researchers are expected to be able to produce translation machines that can accommodate the intricacies and complexities of the Arabic language in the future.

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are considered essential skills in the modern era, encompassing the abilities to think critically, analytically, and creatively and to solve problems. HOTS is crucial to understanding cultural heritage, literature, and Islamic thought in Arabic language learning. This study aims to gather and review information from various research studies that discuss HOTS in Indonesia using content analysis methods on articles published in Science and Technology Index (SINTA) accredited Arabic language education journals from 2019 to 2023. This research addresses questions about HOTS research trends in terms of the number of studies per year, the accreditation of journals publishing HOTS articles, types of research, research subjects, data collection instruments, and data analysis techniques used by researchers. The results of this study show an increasing trend in HOTS research. Researchers tend to prefer publishing their findings in accredited journals to enhance the credibility and exposure of their research. Qualitative research designs dominate, with documentation as the primary data collection instrument. Practice questions in textbooks and exam questions containing HOTS dominate the research objects. This impacts the data analysis techniques, with content analysis methods providing a clear framework for exploring meanings and deeply explaining the data context. Based on the research findings, future studies are expected to consider students as research subjects, explore strategies, models, and teaching methods to enhance students' HOTS, increase the variety of research types, and select data analysis techniques.

Abstract

The research investigates the relationship between metamemory maturity and achievement of Arabic vocabulary size among STAM students in Selangor. The research sample consisted of 185 male and female students of Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) in different government-assisted religious schools (SABK) in Selangor. This study uses a survey design of 271 students in Selangor. A total of 185 students were selected as respondents through the proportional strata sampling technique. The study utilized a survey design and employed descriptive and inferential analyses. Two instruments were used: a questionnaire on metamemory maturity and a test on knowledge of Arabic vocabulary size. Findings revealed a medium level of metamemory maturity (mean score: 3.79) and Arabic vocabulary size achievement (mean score: 77.7). A significant correlation (r = 0.18) was found between metamemory maturity and vocabulary size achievement. Regression analysis indicated that metamemory maturity contributes significantly (β=0.184, t=2.538, p=0.012), explaining 3.4% of the variance in Arabic vocabulary size mastery. The study suggests that metamemory maturity influences students' Arabic vocabulary size mastery.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the assessment of Arabic language skills and linguistic elements in the book published by the Minister of Religion in 2020 for mapping assessments based on HOTS, MOTS, or LOTS. The research method used is descriptive qualitative based on content analysis techniques on assessment items listed in class X Madrasah Aliyah textbooks. Data was obtained through written sources, namely textbooks, as many as 392 assessment items, and other secondary sources, such as papers, articles, and books. The results of this study show that the percentage of assessments in the class X Arabic textbooks issued by the Decree of the Minister of Religion (KMA) of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020 leads to the following competencies: as much as 35% of the assessment items fall into the C2 category (understanding); 54% in category C3 (apply); and 9% fall into category C4 (analyze). The research findings identify that the form of assessment in the Arabic language textbook for class X KMA 2020 leads to the middle-order thinking skills level (MOTS), which is more dominant at the C3 (applying) level. The researchers recommend further research to develop Arabic teaching materials that lead to higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) through Bloom's Taxonomy framework.

Abstract

The study aims to determine how Arab-American authors Naomi Shihab Nye and Diana Abu-Jaber depict Arabs in their selected poems including "Half and Half", "Fuel”, "Kindness", "19 Varieties of Gazelle", “The Sweet Arab, the Generous Arab”, "For Mohammed Zeid of Gaza, 15 Years Old" and  “An Ode to The Sweet Arab, the Generous Arab”.  Naomi Shihab Nye is an Arab-American poet residing in Texas, where she interacts with many diasporas. She has sustained a friendship with Palestine for fourteen years.  Her empathy for her father, Aziz, acts as the impetus for her writing. Moreover, her mother, a displaced German, profoundly impacts the visionary dimension of her exile. The study uses a qualitative research method, specifically literary analysis within the framework of postcolonial and diaspora studies. The author depicts Arabs as humane, generous, peace-loving, and dignified people who suffer from political violence and displacement. They emphasize shared humanity, cultural richness, hospitality, and resilience, while challenging Western stereotypes that portray Arabs as violent or inferior. The study finishes with a compilation of topics that have affected Arab-Americans and shaped their cultural beliefs, including hybridity, multiculturalism, and identity deficiency. This research supports Arabic language learning by fostering cultural empathy and contextual understanding, enabling learners to engage with Arabic texts beyond stereotypes through authentic diasporic representations of Arab identity, values, and lived experience.
