Abstract

ABSTRACT The integration of coding instruction in elementary schools has become increasingly urgent in response to 21st-century skills demands, particularly computational thinking, and is encouraged by policies such as the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia. However, successful implementation heavily depends on teacher readiness, which remains a significant challenge. This study aims to identify and analyze the dimensions of teacher readiness and the factors influencing it in the implementation of coding instruction in elementary schools. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the PRISMA protocol was employed. Literature searches were conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar for articles published between 2015 and 2025. A total of 33 peer-reviewed articles meeting the inclusion criteria were further analyzed. The synthesis results indicate that teacher readiness is a multidimensional construct encompassing four main dimensions: (1) technical competence readiness (mastery of coding and computational thinking), (2) pedagogical readiness (project-based learning strategies and scaffolding), (3) psychological readiness (self-efficacy and attitudes toward technology), and (4) institutional readiness (school support, infrastructure, and professional training). Factors such as continuous professional development, policy support, prior experience, and technology access were identified as key determinants influencing readiness. Theoretically, this study reinforces the multidimensional framework of digital teacher readiness and extends models like TPACK by integrating psychological and institutional factors. Practically, these findings underscore the need for sustained, practice-based teacher training programs, integrated policy support, and adequate infrastructure to create an ecosystem conducive to implementing coding instruction in elementary school

Abstract

Reading literacy is one of the basic skills that elementary school students must have, especially in the early grades. However, in practice, many students still experience difficulties in understanding simple reading. This study aims to analyze the reading literacy skills of second-grade students at SDN Laren 01 and identify factors that influence their low reading comprehension skills. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach with 21 second-grade students as subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, reading tests, and interviews with class teachers. The results showed that 5 students were not yet fluent readers, 12 students were able to read but did not understand the content of the reading well, and only 4 students were able to read and understand the content of the reading. These findings indicate that more than 50% of students still experience difficulties in understanding simple reading. Factors that influence students' low literacy skills include limited vocabulary, low reading habits, and reading learning strategies that still focus on reading fluency. Therefore, more interactive and contextual literacy learning strategies are needed to improve elementary school students' reading comprehension skills

Abstract

This research was conducted to examine the association between arm muscle strength and waist flexibility with shooting performance in the women’s indoor hockey team of Bandar Lampung City. A descriptive correlational design was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 30 participants. Data collection instruments included a push and pull dynamometer, standing stroke test, and indoor hockey shooting test. The research hypotheses were: (1) there is a relationship between arm muscle strength and shooting performance, (2) there is a relationship between waist flexibility and shooting performance, and (3) arm muscle strength and waist flexibility jointly relate to shooting outcomes. The findings revealed that: (1) arm muscle strength had a significant correlation with shooting performance (r = 0.486 > r table = 0.374), (2) waist flexibility was also significantly correlated with shooting performance (r = 0.410 > r table = 0.374), and (3) simultaneously, arm muscle strength and waist flexibility showed a significant combined relationship with shooting performance (r = 0.538 > r table = 0.374), contributing 29.01%.

Abstract

The trade conflict between the United States and China not only has implications for the global economy but also presents new complexities in the realm of diplomatic communication. One of the primary means through which a country conveys its official position is diplomatic speeches delivered by the Foreign Minister. This study aims to analyze how China’s diplomatic stance is represented in the speeches of the Chinese Foreign Minister in response to the U.S.–China trade war, using a pragmatic approach. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach through the analysis of speech acts, implicature, and politeness strategies. The research data consist of utterances purposively selected from official speeches of the Chinese Foreign Minister related to the trade war issue. The analysis results indicate that the speeches reflect China’s diplomatic stance as defensive, persuasive, and strategic, realized through the dominance of representative and indirect directive speech acts, the use of diplomatic implicature, and the implementation of positive and negative politeness strategies. These findings confirm that diplomatic language plays a crucial role as a strategic instrument in shaping the country’s image while simultaneously managing the potential escalation of international conflicts. Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential 21st-century competencies that students must master. The 2022 PISA results show that Indonesia's science score (366) is below the OECD average, indicating low critical thinking skills among students. This study aims to describe: (1) the implementation of the STEAM-based guided inquiry model, (2) the improvement of students' critical thinking skills, and (3) student responses. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 20 Surabaya in class VII G with 33 students. Data collection techniques included observation sheets, critical thinking tests (pretest and posttest), and response questionnaires. Data analysis included implementation percentage, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon test, N-Gain Score, and mode analysis. The results show: (1) 100% implementation in the Very Good category; (2) a significant increase in critical thinking skills based on the Wilcoxon test (Z = −5.036; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) and an average N-Gain of 0.85 in the High category, with details per indicator: concluding (0.90), building basic skills (0.86), and giving simple explanations (0.77); and (3) 90% of student responses in the Very Good category. It is concluded that the STEAM-based guided inquiry model is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of junior high school students.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in literary works, particularly the novel Ghazi 5: The Gaze of Ghazi by Felix Y. Siauw, which serves not only as a linguistic variation but also carries stylistic and sociocultural significance. This study aims to identify forms of code-switching and code-mixing involving Arabic and to analyse the functions and connotative meanings contained therein. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques involving reading and note-taking. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the code-switching identified is external code- switching between Indonesian and Arabic, whilst code-mixing is dominated by word insertion. These phenomena are influenced by the historical Islamic fiction setting of the novel. Furthermore, the use of code-switching and code-mixing serves to reinforce religious undertones, depict situations, and affirm the characters’ identities. The connotative meanings identified tend to be positive and relate to Islamic values. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the field of sociolinguistic literary studies, particularly in the linguistic analysis of fictional works.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the beesmart application in the implementation of computer-based school exams at UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Pammana and analyze the challenges faced in implementing exams using the beesmart application with George C Edward III's policy implementation theory. This research method is qualitative with descriptive data analysis. Data sources involve five informants, namely teachers, students, and proctors. The research instruments are observation, interviews, and documentation. This study uses two data validity techniques, technical triangulation and time triangulation. This data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study conclude that the implementation of the beesmart application in the implementation of computer-based school exams at UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Pammana is considered more effective than paper-based exams because it provides convenience in distributing questions, managing exams, and a faster and more efficient assessment process. In addition, this system also supports the implementation of more modern and environmentally friendly exams. This implementation contributes to the formation of students' digital literacy and transparent learning evaluation standards, demonstrating the potential for digital educational transformation. Procedurally, the school has conducted structured socialization and simulations, although further guidance is still needed for users unfamiliar with technology. While students have a good understanding of operational instructions, such as the login process, technical challenges such as token usage, essay answer uploads, and inconsistent instructions across exam rooms remain important concerns. In addition to human resources, infrastructure remains a major challenge, as server and network performance often degrades when accessed simultaneously by all students. Although the school has written SOPs, their implementation in the field is not yet fully optimized and requires more detailed technical explanations for consistent operation. Therefore, the success of this BeeSmart-based exam depends heavily on increasing bandwidth capacity, strengthening server infrastructure, and ongoing evaluation to ensure system stability and minimize future technical disruptions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the process of language acquisition and development of students at SDIT Madani Al-Mujahidin and the factors that influence it. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted during learning activities and student interactions within the school environment. Interviews were conducted with the principal, teachers, and several students to obtain more in-depth information regarding students' language abilities. Documentation was used to supplement the research data in the form of photos of activities, notes, and other supporting documents. The results showed that students' language acquisition and development were influenced by their family environment, school environment, peers, digital media, and reading habits. Students who received good language stimulation at home and at school tended to have better speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Teachers play a crucial role in supporting students' language development through the use of active and communicative learning methods, such as discussions, presentations, shared reading, role-playing, and question-and-answer sessions. Furthermore, the use of Indonesian, Arabic, and English within the school environment also provided students with experiences in acquiring more than one language. A supportive school environment and collaboration between teachers and parents are important factors in fostering optimal language development in students.

Abstract

21st-century education demands that students develop collaborative and problem-solving skills as core competencies. A deep learning-based curriculum emphasizes the importance of active student engagement, strong conceptual understanding, and the development of higher-order thinking skills. However, implementation in the field shows that learning is still dominated by teacher-centered methods, resulting in suboptimal student collaborative and problem-solving skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing a guided inquiry learning model on improving students' collaborative and problem-solving skills within the context of a deep learning curriculum. The method used was a quantitative descriptive study with a pretest-posttest experimental design in an experimental class implementing the guided inquiry model. The results showed a significant effect of the guided inquiry learning model on learning outcomes, indicated by a significance value of 0.000 < 0.025, thus Ha was accepted. Furthermore, there was an increase in chemistry learning outcomes, indicated by an n-Gain value of 0.86 for 11th-grade science students at SMA Muhammadiyah Jayapura, which is considered high. These findings confirm that the guided inquiry model is effective in improving student learning abilities in line with the demands of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Reading skill (maharah qirā'ah) plays an important role in Arabic language learning, particularly in helping students understand written texts effectively. Therefore, reading exercises in Arabic textbooks should reflect appropriate reading skill frameworks. This study aims to analyze the maharah qirā'ah exercises in the Grade VIII Arabic textbook published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs based on H. Douglas Brown's reading skills framework. This study employed a qualitative approach using content analysis. The data were collected from reading materials, vocabulary lists, and exercises contained in the textbook and analyzed using Krippendorff's six-stage content analysis procedure. The findings reveal that the textbook contains fourteen qirā'ah exercises distributed into two reading skill types: selective reading and interactive reading, each accounting for seven exercises (50%). Meanwhile, perceptive reading and extensive reading were not identified in the textbook. The absence of perceptive reading tasks is considered appropriate for students' level, while the absence of extensive reading indicates limited opportunities for students to develop higher-level reading skills. This study concludes that the qirā'ah exercises in the Grade VIII Arabic textbook partially reflect Brown's reading skills framework but lack comprehensive coverage of all reading skill types. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to supplement the textbook with extensive reading activities to support balanced development of students' Arabic reading skills.
