Abstract

The development of residential areas in Padang City has increased significantly over the past decade due to population growth and regional development. This condition may lead to inappropriate land use if it is not aligned with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW). This study aims to analyze the dynamics of residential area distribution in Padang City from 2014 to 2024, assess its conformity with the Padang City Regional Spatial Plan, and identify the factors influencing residential area development. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. Data were collected through land-use map analysis, satellite imagery, RTRW documents, field observations, questionnaires, and interviews. The research sample consisted of four districts, namely Koto Tangah, Nanggalo, Padang Selatan, and Kuranji, selected using purposive sampling. The results indicate that residential areas increased across all study locations, with the most substantial growth occurring in Koto Tangah District. Overlay analysis revealed that most residential developments were consistent with the Regional Spatial Plan; however, several settlements were found within protected areas, river buffer zones, and disaster-prone areas. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that social, economic, physical, and infrastructure factors significantly influenced residential area development, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.95. These findings are expected to support sustainable spatial planning and residential development policies in Padang City.

Abstract

Student engagement is a key indicator of successful learning. However, in Indonesian language classes, many students still demonstrate limited participation in asking questions, expressing opinions, and engaging in classroom discussions. One strategy that teachers can employ to address this issue is the implementation of a personal approach. This study aims to describe the implementation of teachers' personal approach in fostering the learning engagement of tenth-grade students in Indonesian language learning at SMA Negeri 3 Selong. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the teacher's personal approach was implemented through eight forms: greeting students and asking about their well-being, remembering and calling students by name, approaching students who appeared unmotivated, providing equal opportunities for all students to express their opinions, giving appreciation and positive reinforcement, providing individual assistance to students experiencing learning difficulties, establishing relaxed and supportive communication. These practices fostered positive teacher–student relationships and enhanced students' learning engagement, as reflected in their increased willingness to ask and answer questions, participate in discussions, express ideas, pay attention during lessons, and complete learning tasks.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low social and emotional skills of elementary school students, evident from limited cooperation, empathy, and emotional regulation during learning, particularly in Civics Education on the topic of rights and obligations. This study aimed to examine the implementation and effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by inspirational videos on students' Social Emotional Learning (SEL). A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The population consisted of all 274 students of SDN Ranji, with a sample of 33 sixth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and an SEL instrument, then analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using a Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed that the PBL model assisted by inspirational videos was implemented across five sessions following the five stages of PBL, and successfully increased students' emotional engagement and active participation. The pretest mean score of 27.21 increased significantly in the posttest, with the highest frequencies falling in the 40–44 (30%) and 45–49 (27%) intervals. The Paired Sample t-Test yielded a t-value of 20.626 with a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05), leading to the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of H₁. It can therefore be concluded that the PBL model assisted by inspirational videos has a significant effect on the SEL of sixth-grade students at SDN Ranji, covering all SEL components according to the CASEL framework: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Abstract

Solenoid hoses are critical components in the hydraulic and pneumatic systems of bulk cement carriers, as they channel fluid pressure to actuators and valves during the unloading process. On the KM. Tonasa Line XIX, solenoid hoses frequently rupture during unloading, disrupting the smooth flow of operations. This study aims to identify the causes of solenoid hose ruptures and propose preventive measures. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a case study approach. Data were collected through observations during sea trials, interviews with the chief officer and crew members, documentation, and a literature review. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that solenoid hose failure is caused by a combination of system pressure exceeding safe operational limits due to the non-gradual opening of valves, degradation of hose material that has exceeded its service life, and the suboptimal implementation of preventive maintenance. Additionally, a lack of monitoring of pressure indicators during the loading and unloading process further increases the risk of failure. Recommended preventive measures include routine inspections using checklists, periodic hose replacement based on service life, gradual valve operation, and the installation of pressure relief valves to maintain stable system pressure. Implementing these measures can improve the reliability of the loading and unloading system, reduce the potential for damage, and support vessel safety and operational efficiency.
