Abstract

The rapid development of social media, particularly Instagram, has increased individuals' tendency to engage in appearance-based social comparison. Continuous exposure to idealized body images on Instagram may contribute to body dissatisfaction, especially among young adult women who are at a developmental stage characterized by heightened concern about physical appearance. This study aims to examine the effect of social comparison on body dissatisfaction among young adult female Instagram users in Medan City. This research employs a quantitative approach using a simple linear regression analysis. The study population consists of young adult female Instagram users residing in Medan City. The sample is selected using a non-probability sampling technique through a combination of purposive sampling and convenience sampling based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Data are collected using a Social Comparison Scale developed based on the theory proposed by Schaefer and Thompson (2014) and a Body Dissatisfaction Scale adapted from the concept developed by Cash and Pruzinsky (2002). The collected data are analyzed using descriptive statistics, assumption tests, and simple linear regression analysis to examine the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The proposed hypothesis states that higher levels of social comparison are associated with higher levels of body dissatisfaction among young adult female Instagram users in Medan City. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of psychological science, particularly in understanding the impact of social media use on women's body image, and to provide a reference for developing preventive interventions aimed at promoting positive body image and mental well-being among social media users.

Abstract

Discipline is an important component in athlete development because it is related to responsibility, commitment, consistency in implementing training programs, and achieving sporting achievements. However, the level of discipline of Pencak Silat athletes in Pagar Nusa Ranting Kedungmalang, Papar District, Kediri Regency has never been objectively mapped. Measurement of this condition was conducted through quantitative research with a descriptive design using established discipline indicators. A total of 30 athletes were involved as both the population and the sample through a total sampling technique. Data collection used a Likert scale questionnaire consisting of 30 statements representing ten discipline indicators, while data processing was carried out using descriptive statistics assisted by the SPSS program. The quality of the instrument met the measurement requirements because all calculated r values were above r table (0.361) and the Cronbach's Alpha value reached 0.891, indicating high reliability. The analysis produced a mean value of 80.67 with a standard deviation of 11.651, so the level of athlete discipline was included in the moderate category. The distribution of respondents showed that 21 athletes (70.0%) were in the moderate category, 5 athletes (16.7%) in the high category, and 4 athletes (13.3%) in the low category. These findings indicate that athlete discipline has been established quite well, but increased coaching, supervision, and motivation from coaches and organizational administrators are still needed to optimize training quality and support improved athletic performance.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model integrated with a Deep Learning approach on students' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in Geography learning, particularly on the topic of Hydrosphere, at SMAN 1 Payakumbuh. A quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design was employed, involving 60 tenth-grade students divided into an experimental class (TPS-Deep Learning) and a control class (conventional learning). Data were collected through validated and reliable HOTS tests and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and Independent Sample t-Test procedures in SPSS 25. The results show that students' HOTS improved after the TPS-Deep Learning treatment, with the pretest mean rising from 68.93 to a posttest mean of 90.73. The experimental class posttest mean (90.73) also exceeded the control class (87.43), and the Independent Sample t-Test yielded a significance value of 0.013 (p < 0.05), leading to rejection of H0. These findings indicate that TPS combined with Deep Learning principles gives a statistically significant and practically meaningful contribution to students' higher-order thinking in Geography instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and improvement of student learning outcomes in Pancasila Education through the application of the Discovery Learning model in class V of SDN 16 Puncak Lawang, Agam Regency. This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students, where only 35% of students reached the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP) with a class average of 69.8, caused by teacher-centered learning and limited student engagement in constructing their own understanding of Pancasila values. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design referring to the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection, carried out in two cycles: Cycle I (two meetings) and Cycle II (one meeting). The subjects were the class teacher and 20 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, test, and non-test techniques, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results showed that the quality of the lesson plan increased from an average of 82.14% (Good) in Cycle I to 92.85% (Very Good) in Cycle II; teacher activity increased from 87.5% to 96.8%; and student activity increased from 76.75% to 92.8%. Student learning outcomes also improved: the attitude aspect increased from 72.08 to 86.67, the knowledge aspect from 76 to 88, and the skill aspect from 75.63 to 93.13, with all students reaching the KKTP score of 75 by the end of Cycle II. It can be concluded that the application of the Discovery Learning model effectively improves student learning outcomes in Pancasila Education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of learning media in the learning process of Pancasila Education for tenth-grade senior high school students in Malang City and to determine students’ responses and participation toward the use of interactive PowerPoint (PPT) learning media. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research was conducted at SMA Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang involving tenth-grade students and a Pancasila Education teacher as research subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the use of interactive PPT learning media had a positive impact on the Pancasila Education learning process. Students demonstrated positive responses because the learning media were considered attractive, easy to understand, and capable of increasing students’ focus and learning motivation. In addition, the use of interactive PPT media improved students’ participation in classroom activities, such as asking questions, answering questions, and engaging in classroom discussions. However, several obstacles were found, including excessive text in the PPT slides and technical problems with learning devices. Therefore, the development of more creative, interactive, and contextual learning media is needed to create a more effective and enjoyable learning process.

Abstract

Physical education in primary schools is frequently treated as a supplementary subject, despite its distinctive contribution to children's movement literacy, fitness, and character formation. This article examines the barriers that impede effective physical education learning at the primary level, focusing on two interlinked factors: teachers' pedagogical competence and institutional support from schools. Drawing on a narrative review of national and international literature from the past decade, three layers of barriers are identified: structural barriers (limited facilities, equipment, and time allocation), pedagogical barriers (competence gaps among non-specialist teachers and limited mastery of movement-based instructional models), and managerial barriers (weak curriculum leadership and the absence of school policies favouring physical activity). Findings indicate that these three layers form a reinforcing cycle rather than operating in isolation. The article closes by proposing a three-pronged strengthening framework encompassing sustained professional development, school policy restructuring, and cross-sector advocacy as a foundation for future intervention research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of students’ learning activity through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Educaplay media on the learning outcomes of sixth-grade students at SDN 04 Kluwut Brebes. The study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in the Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial (IPAS) subject, where only 40% of students reached the minimum mastery criteria (KKM), allegedly caused by monotonous, teacher-centered learning that made students passive. This research used a quantitative method with an associative approach through simple linear regression analysis. The population and sample consisted of all 34 sixth-grade students (21 male and 13 female) of SDN 04 Kluwut, determined through saturated sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, a cognitive posttest, and documentation. The prerequisite tests showed that the data were normally distributed and linear. The simple linear regression analysis produced the equation Y = 1.106 + 1.012X with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a standardized coefficient (Beta) of 0.998, indicating a very strong and significant positive effect. It is concluded that the PBL model assisted by Educaplay media significantly improves students’ learning activity and learning outcomes.
