Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of gadget use on physical activity and stress levels among students of SMAN 1 Parongpong. A quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design was employed, involving 320 respondents selected from a population of 1,459 students through proportional random sampling based on grade level. Gadget use was measured using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), physical activity using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and stress levels using the Perceived Stress Scale 10 (PSS-10), with data analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4.0. The results showed that most students (54%) were classified as addicted to gadgets, the majority had low physical activity levels (67.5%), and the majority experienced severe stress (60%). Bootstrapping hypothesis testing revealed that gadget use had a significant negative effect on physical activity (β = -0.780; t = 39.436; p = 0.000) and a significant positive effect on stress levels (β = 0.824; t = 46.668; p = 0.000), with the model explaining 60.9% of the variance in physical activity and 68.0% in stress levels. This study concludes that higher gadget use among students is associated with lower physical activity and higher stress levels, indicating the need for promotive interventions such as limiting gadget use during school hours and scheduled physical activity programs to balance technology use with students' physical and mental health. Abstract

Physical activity among junior high school students tends to decline in the digital era due to increasing gadget use and sedentary behavior. Beyond digitalization, access to public open space and cognitive function also shape students' movement habits. This study aimed to describe the level of physical activity and cognitive function among junior high school students, to examine differences in physical activity based on open space access, and to test the effect of open space access and cognitive function on students' physical activity. A quantitative ex post facto approach, comparative and associative in nature, was employed. The sample consisted of 234 seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-grade students selected through cluster sampling from SMPN 3 Lembang (high open space access) and SMPN 2 Baleendah (low open space access). Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, simple linear regression, and multiple linear regression. Results showed that students' physical activity (mean = 45.55) and cognitive function (mean = 46.21) were in the moderate category. A significant difference in physical activity was found based on open space access (Mann-Whitney U = 5118.500; Sig. = 0.002), with students in high-access areas showing higher physical activity. Cognitive function significantly affected physical activity (R² = 0.170; Sig. = 0.000), and together with open space access simultaneously explained 21.3% of the variance in physical activity (F = 31.176; Sig. = 0.000), with cognitive function (Beta = 0.342) contributing more than open space access (Beta = 0.217). These findings underline the importance of combining environmental interventions with strengthening students' self-regulation to promote an active lifestyle in the digital era. Abstract

quality of decision-making in man-up situations among water polo athletes. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 52 water polo athletes participated in this study, selected using purposive sampling. Data on situational awareness were collected using the Situational Awareness Rating Questionnaire (SARQ), while the quality of decision-making was measured using the Scale of Effective Decision-Making in Sport (SEDMS). Data analysis was performed using correlation tests. The results showed that (1) Extrinsic Decision Making was positively and significantly associated with Indicative of the Demands of the Coach (r = 0.43; p < 0.01) and Indicative of Supply (r = 0.39; p < 0.01); (2) there was a significant positive relationship between Indicative of Supply and Indicative of Understanding (r = 0.51; p < 0.01); (3) there was a significant negative relationship between Intrinsic Decision Making and Indicative of Understanding (r = -0.49; p < 0.01); (4) aspects of situational awareness—particularly those related to the coach's demands and the availability of situational information—contribute to the quality of water polo athletes' decision-making in man-up situations. It is concluded that improving situational awareness can support effective decision-making in water polo. Keywords: Decision-Making Quality, Man-Up, Water Polo, Situational Awareness

Abstract

Decision-making is a critical aspect determining how well basketball athletes perform when facing in-game situations. Self-confidence is considered one of the psychological factors potentially linked to this ability. This study examines the association between confidence and decision-making among members of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Basketball student club, using a quantitative correlational design. Thirty club members were involved through a total sampling technique. Data were gathered using a confidence questionnaire alongside the Decision Styles Questionnaire (DSQ), then analyzed in IBM SPSS Statistics through descriptive statistics, normality and linearity testing, Pearson Product Moment correlation, and a determination coefficient analysis. The findings show: (1) the data were normally distributed and linearly related; (2) the correlation analysis yielded r = 0.306 with p = 0.100 (p > 0.05), indicating no statistically significant link between confidence and decision-making; (3) the determination coefficient revealed that confidence accounted for only 9.3% of decision-making variance; (4) the remaining 90.7% was explained by other factors such as tactical knowledge, competitive experience, and match conditions. Confidence therefore does not appear to be the primary driver of decision-making quality among ITB Basketball club members. Keywords: Basketball, Self-Confidence, Decision Making

Abstract

The research of this study is to examine the relationship between motivation and participation in team sports extracurricular activities among students in year 7 and 8 at SMP Negeri 9 Cimahi. This study argues that even though there are various benefits from participating in team sports extracurricular activities, students' involvement vary. Some students participating actively and consistently while others attend irregularly. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population in this study were 250 students at SMPN 9 Cimahi who participated in team-based extracurricular activities, and 148 were active students and were used as the research sample through total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire based on a 1–4 Likert scale. The instrument was adapted from the Sport Motivation Scale-II (SMS-II) to measure students' motivation, and the Participation Motivation Questionnaire (PMQ) to measure students' participation. Descriptive analysis shows that average students' motivation was categorized as moderate (mean = 50.36, SD = 5.091), with relatively homogeneous scores among respondents. Correlation test showed a correlation coefficient of rs = 0.376 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.01), indicating a significant positive relationship between motivation and participation. These findings suggest that motivation is a meaningful contributing factor to students' participation in team sports extracurricular activities. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the development of scientific publications on mindful parenting, independence, and motor development in children with Down syndrome using a bibliometric approach. The study employed a bibliometric method based on data retrieved from the Scopus database covering the period from 2017 to 2026. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer software to identify (1) publication trends, (2) the most highly cited articles, (3) the most productive authors and countries, and (4) the co-occurrence of keywords. The results revealed a steady increase in the number of publications, rising from 21 articles in 2017 to a peak of 95 articles in 2025. The United States was the most productive country, contributing 132 documents with a total of 2,285 citations, while Helena Moreira was identified as the most productive author with 20 publications and 627 citations. Keyword co-occurrence analysis indicated that the existing literature is predominantly focused on mindfulness, parenting stress, mental health, and parent–child relationships. In contrast, studies specifically examining the relationship between mindful parenting, independence, and motor development in children with Down syndrome remain relatively limited. In conclusion, this bibliometric analysis highlights substantial opportunities for future research to explore the role of mindful parenting in promoting independence and enhancing motor development among children with Down syndrome. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) learning model integrated with Fitness Education on the soccer playing skills and social skills of elementary school students compared to conventional learning. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The study sample consisted of 40 fifth-grade students at SDN 062 Ciujung, Bandung City, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The instruments used were the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI) to measure soccer playing skills and the Social Skills Improvement System (SSIS) to measure social skills. Data were analyzed using a normality test, followed by the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Mann-Whitney U test due to non-normal distribution. The results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in both groups (p = 0.01 < 0.05). Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney U test showed significant differences between the experimental and control groups in soccer skills (p = 0.01) and social skills (p = 0.03). These findings indicate that the TPSR learning model integrated with Fitness Education has a greater impact than conventional learning in improving soccer skills and social skills in elementary school students. Therefore, the TPSR learning model integrated with Fitness Education can be used as an alternative educational learning method to develop both motor skills and social skills in students. Abstract

This study aimed to compare the physical fitness levels of high school students in Bandung, Indonesia, based on active commuting modes of walking and cycling to school. A comparative quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 36 students selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 17 cyclists and 19 walkers. Physical fitness was assessed using the high-priority ALPHA-Fitness Test Battery, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, handgrip strength, standing long jump, and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO₂max). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene's test, Independent Sample t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed no significant differences between the cycling and walking groups in BMI (p=0.975), waist circumference (p=0.155), handgrip strength (p=0.210), standing long jump (p=0.303), or VO₂max (p=0.274). Nevertheless, the cycling group consistently demonstrated slightly higher mean values and effect sizes across most fitness indicators. It can be concluded that walking and cycling to school did not result in significant differences in the physical fitness levels of high school students in Bandung, possibly due to the low dose of physical activity and the relatively small sample size.
