Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to describe the implementation of a tactical approach to improve the learning enthusiasm of Grade X students in badminton instruction at SMAN 2 Subang. The participants were 43 students. The intervention included a pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II through planning, action, observation, reflection, and follow-up stages. Data were collected using an observation sheet with seven indicators: attention, activeness, perseverance, resilience, participation, game involvement, and tactical application. Quantitative descriptive analysis used mean scores, percentages, categories, and frequency distributions. The results increased from 42.77% in the pre-cycle to 69.85% in Cycle I and 88.12% in Cycle II. All students were in the low and very low categories in the pre-cycle; 88.37% reached the good category in Cycle I; and 90.70% reached the very good category in Cycle II. The tactical approach improved game involvement, willingness to discuss, persistence in correcting errors, and tactical application. It can therefore be used as an alternative model for badminton instruction in physical education. Abstract

This research aims to increase students' level of enjoyment in taking physical education lessons, to improve elementary school students' basic movement skills through the application of the TPSR learning model, to determine the effect of the TPSR learning model on increasing the personal responsibility of elementary school students in physical education learning. The research uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving all class IV students at SDN 11 Lembang, totaling 40 students. The research instruments were the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) and the TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility) questionnaire test, the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) questionnaire test. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and cross-sectional comparative studies. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the data was not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so hypothesis testing was carried out using the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the enjoyment data was not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so the analysis was continued with the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The Wilcoxon test results show a value of Z = -5.356b with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05 for enjoyment. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility) learning model in PJOK learning provides a significant increase in the enjoyment and basic movements of elementary school students. These findings indicate that the TPSR model can be an effective teaching strategy for teachers to develop students' movement skills and character in a more balanced manner.   Keywords: Basic Movement, Enjoyment, Responsibility, TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility)

Abstract

A decline in fundamental motor skills among primary school-aged children is an issue that affects their ability to perform physical activities optimally. This study aimed to determine the impact of a Kids' Athletics program on the fundamental motor skills of fifth-grade primary school students. An experimental method utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The study involved 49 fifth-grade students (25 boys and 24 girls, aged 10–13 years) selected through purposive sampling. A modified Kids' Athletics program was implemented as an intervention over 16 sessions, with a frequency of 2–3 sessions per week. The Fundamental Sports Skills (FUS) test served as the research instrument; data analysis began with prerequisite testing (normality test), followed by the Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks test, as the data were not normally distributed. The results showed an improvement of 6.49 points. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference in fundamental motor skills before and after the intervention. In conclusion, the Kids' Athletics program is effective in enhancing the fundamental motor skills of primary school students, making it a viable alternative for Physical Education (PE) instruction in fostering the development of fundamental movement abilities.   Keywords: Basic Motor Skills; Kids' Athletics;  Primary School.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of physical fitness level, understanding of the Laws of the Game, and anxiety on the performance of football referees, both individually and simultaneously. This study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto design and a correlational method. The participants consisted of 34 active football referees registered with the Bandung City Football Association (Askot PSSI Bandung City), selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included the Fitness Test for Referees Men, the Laws of the Game Knowledge Test, the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 Revised (CSAI-2R), and the Assessment of the Referee's Performance. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicated that, simultaneously, the three independent variables had a significant effect on referee performance (F = 7.317; Sig. = 0.001), accounting for 42.3% of the variance (R² = 0.423). Partially, physical fitness level (t = -3.955; Sig. = 0.000) and pre match anxiety (t = -3.493; Sig. = 0.002) had significant effects on referee performance, whereas understanding of the Laws of the Game did not have a significant effect (t = -0.869; Sig. = 0.392). These findings indicate that referee performance is influenced by a multidimensional interaction between physical and psychological factors. It can be concluded that referee development programs should be designed holistically by emphasizing improvements in physical fitness, strengthening knowledge of the Laws of the Game through simulation based training, and enhancing anxiety management and mental resilience skills. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of implementing the flipped classroom learning model on students' motivation toward physical education and their learning outcomes in the basketball extracurricular activity at SMPN 44 Bandung. This study employed an experimental method using a quasi-experimental approach and a pretest-posttest control group design. The study sample consisted of 32 students divided into two groups using the stratified random assignment technique, resulting in 16 students in each group: the experimental group (n = 16) and the control group (n = 16). The instruments used were the Sport Motivation Scale-II (SMS-II) to measure sports motivation and second-semester final exam report card scores to measure student learning outcomes. The results showed that, in general, the implementation of the Flipped Classroom Learning model did not have a significant effect on sports motivation (p = 0.273) or learning outcomes (p = 0.255). However, analysis based on the SMS-II subscales revealed a significant effect on external regulation (p = 0.005). The conclusion of this study is that the Flipped Classroom Learning model, with a 6-week intervention, did not have a significant effect on students' sports motivation and learning outcomes, but was effective in reducing students' external regulation in the basketball extracurricular program at SMPN 44 Bandung. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect and compare the effectiveness of mental imagery and video modelling exercise methods on basketball shooting skills (free throw, three-point, and lay-up) among students at SMAN 1 Sumedang. This study applied a quantitative experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 24 students evenly divided into three groups (n=8): Mental Imagery, Video Modelling, and Control. Since the data normality prerequisites were not met, hypothesis testing was conducted using non-parametric statistics. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test results indicated that all groups experienced a significant score increase (p < 0.05) internally from pre-test to post-test. Furthermore, the Kruskal-Wallis H Test proved a highly significant difference in the effectiveness of the gain score simultaneously among the three groups (p = 0.000). Based on further analysis using the Mann-Whitney U Test, it was revealed that the video modelling method was the most effective intervention, recording the highest gain score improvement compared to the mental imagery method and the control group. The dominant mechanical improvement occurred in the lay-up and free throw components, while the three-point shooting was generally limited by the physical capacity of public school students. In conclusion, visual observation intervention through video modelling is highly recommended to accelerate students’ cognitive understanding and motor adaptation in basketball learning. Abstract

This study aims to describe the mental toughness profile and achievement level of regional-level gymnastics athletes. Mental toughness is regarded as a crucial psychological factor contributing to performance consistency and athletic success, particularly in gymnastics, a sport that demands movement accuracy, balance, and high concentration under subjective judging pressure. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a total sampling technique involving 11 active regional-level gymnastics athletes. Data were collected using the Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire (SMTQ), which measures three dimensions: confidence, constancy, and control, along with achievement data based on medals earned in official competitions. Data were analyzed descriptively using SPSS 23. The results showed that (1) the total mental toughness score was in the moderate category (mean = 39.36; SD = 3.23), with the majority of athletes (63.6%) in the moderate category, 27.3% in the low category, and only 9.1% in the high category; (2) the confidence dimension was the most prominent component (mean = 18.00), while the control dimension was the most fragile (mean = 10.00; SD = 3.16); (3) in terms of achievement, the low and high categories showed equal proportions (36.4% each); and (4) a high mental toughness score does not always correspond to higher medal achievement. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening the control dimension through structured mental training programs for regional-level gymnastics athletes. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on students' participation in athletics learning and to compare which type of motivation has a more dominant influence on students' participation. The study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 8 Bandung, with a sample of 230 students selected using the Slovin formula and proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires adapted from the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI), Valence, Instrumentality, Expectancy Motivation Scale (VIEMS), and Student Engagement in School Items (SESI). The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS through descriptive statistical analysis, normality testing, linearity testing, multicollinearity testing, and simple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that intrinsic motivation had a positive and significant effect on students' participation (β = 0.706, p < 0.05), while extrinsic motivation also had a positive and significant effect on students' participation (β = 0.762, p < 0.05). A comparison of the standardized beta coefficients showed that extrinsic motivation had a more dominant influence on students' participation in athletics learning than intrinsic motivation. In conclusion, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation significantly and positively influenced students' participation; however, extrinsic motivation was the more dominant factor. Therefore, efforts to increase students' participation should focus on strengthening intrinsic motivation while optimizing extrinsic factors, such as providing constructive feedback, appropriate rewards, and a supportive learning environment.
