COUNS-EDU: The International Journal of Counseling and Education ISSN: 2548-348X , e-ISSN: 2548-3498 is a peer-reviewed, scientific journal published by Indonesian Counselor Association (IKI). Abstract

Problem is a state that is not in line with expectations and must be solved immediately. The junior high school student is in the early adolescent phase, which finds many major changes in him that can cause problems. Guidance and conseling services should be provided in accordance with the problems experienced by students and their needs. However, guidance and conseling teachers have difficulty identifying the problems that affect the giving of guidance and counseling services. This study observes the problems experienced by students in junior high school with the number of respondents as many as 193 students. They are first year students of junior high school in Yogyakarta. We analyzed student problems using survey methods with problem-based guidance and counseling instrument, namely Alat Ungkap Masalah (AUM) Umum. The results showed that the 3 highest problem experienced by junior high school students in Yogyakarta covered 45% of he Social Relationship, 44% Personality, and Physical Health got 40%.

Abstract

Adolescence is known as the transition from childhood to adulthood. In this period, the adolescent will experience many changes related to their identities in various domains of life, including the religious domain. This study aims to investigate the profiles of religious identity status of early adolescents. A total of 116 secondary school students participated in this study. Data were collected by using the Scale of Religious Identity Status. The results showed that students’ religious identity status were distributed in four categories: achievement (66%), searching moratorium (23%), foreclosure (10%), and moratorium (1%). Implications for guidance and counseling services in secondary school are discussed to promote the development of religious identity of early adolescents.

Abstract

The future achievement of adolescent in correctional institutions is also required to assume education or learning. The government has need to provide coaching for young prisoners in education at correctional institution so they are ready to enter new life after free. But the coaching that has not been able to optimally implementation. One of the problems that young prisoners is low learning skills. The purpose of this study was to describe learning skills of the young prisoners in correctional institution adolescent Tanjung Pati Lima Puluh Koto. This research used quantitative approaches with descriptive-quantitative method. The sample in this research consisted of 32 young prisoner. An analyze of the data used instruments learning skills of the young prisoners and analysis used is presentation. The research finding showed that learning skills of young prisoners at a medium level as many as 17 people with 73,91%, the very high level as many as 5 people with 21,74%, the low level as many as 1 people with 4,35%. The implication of this research is to describe learning skills young prisoners. In order, the results of this study could be data to assist the prisoners and coaching for solving their problems in learning

Abstract

This research is motivated by self-disclosure and adjustment of some students on XI grade class of Madrasah Aliyah Madania Bantul Yogyakarta which is quite low. This study aims to improve self-disclosure and self-adjustment of learners through group counseling with a person centered approach This research uses the type of action research conducted in three cycles using Kemmis and Taggart model. Each cycle consists of four stages, planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study are students on Xi grade class of Madrasah Aliyah Madania Bantul Yogyakarta who have low  self-disclosure and self-adjustment that amounted to 5 people. The results showed that group counseling with person centered approach can improve self-disclosure and adaptation students of grade XI in Madrasah Aliyah Madania Bantul Yogyakarta. This increase has been proven through research in each group, namely: (1) in group A, the number of subjects who have high self-disclosure in the 1st cycle is  40%, and getting increased in 2nd  cycle to 80%, while the number of subjects who have high self-adjustment in 1st cycle is 40%, in 2nd cycle is 60%, and getting increased in 3rd cycle to 80%. (2) in group B the number of subjects who have high self-disclosure in 1st cycle is 20%, 2nd cycle is 40% and getting increased in 3rd cycle to 80%, while for the number of subjects who have adjusted in the cycle is 40%, 60% and increased in 3rd cycle as much as 80%. The results are also reinforced through observations that show that learners have been able to communicate, express themselves and fit in well. From the interviews, learners admit that group counseling activities can improve the ability to express themselves, adjust to other people and feel helpful in solving problems.

Abstract

This article, a part of dissertation entitled  Developing Basic English Grammar Teaching Material based on Interactive Multimedia at University Level, presents the results of a study conducted to find the model of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia needed by the students. This empirical research employed both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Seventy eight students of English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang were involved. The students  were required to articulate their need on a design of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. The data were collected through an open questionnaire. The first result is that Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia is very needed (with the score 3.1 out of 4). Second, the result indicates the organization of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. The organization consists of six parts. They are Time to watch/sing/read, Time to chat, Time to Focus, Time for fun practice, Time for tube, and Time for action. Third, the students have different learning style. Fourty two students (53.84%) have visual learning style. Twenty two students (28.21%) have audio learning style. The rest, fourteen students (17.95%) have kinestetic learning style. Four, the finding shows the students have their favorite movies, colors, and music. The students like comedy/humor, drama, horror, dokumentary, and action movies; they love pop, jazz, rock, country, and rap music; they adore blue, green, black, pink, and red color. Another important research finding is almost all students (91%) have their own laptop. Those findings will be considerations in designing the Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia. Further research to see the effectiveness of the model of Basic English Grammar teaching material based on interactive multimedia needs to be done.

Abstract

One of the concerns in the process of adolescent transition into adulthood is the status of career identity. Good status enables teenagers to survive in increasingly competitive conditions. This study aims to see the status of career identity found in first year students at Yogyakarta State University. Data were collected by survey method using scale spread to 500 respondents. The scale used by SPSS to meet the validity and reliability The results show that 96% of respondents in the right field are in the category of achievement and 4% are in foreclosure category. While in the non-exact field there are 97% are in the category of achievement and 3% is foreclosure category. So it can be said that about 95% of respondents have good identity status, and expected to survive in an increasingly competitive conditions. This study contributes to literature of career identity status as well as other contributions described.

Abstract

This article focuses on the development of, and research about, a strong democracy education intervention, the Just Community approach. Three questions frame the discussion: 1) Does Just Community change student or do student in these program change their school? 2) How Just Community change student and how Just Community change their school? 3) How can democracy be 'learned' by student in these program? This article begins with a brief history of the Just Community approach, a description of the original developmental model created by Lawrence Kohlberg, some research has been created in European and US. Just Community’s theoretical basis: Piaget’s cognitive development theory and Durkheim’s view of collective socialization. How to run this program? The aim of the program and implementation for education.

Abstract

The ability of students to communicate is a very important factor for achieving success in life. Many factors influence students' communication skills, can be factors from outside the individual or from within the individual. One of the factors within this individual is personality. Individuals are born with different personalities that greatly affect the way they communicate with their environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the communication skills of introverted personalities towards the use of group guidance services through sociodrama. The method used in this study is a single subject design. The results show that in the subject one mean level of baseline (A) is 78 mean level of intervention (B) is 125.3 while in subject two shows the mean level of baseline (A) is 80.67 and the mean level of intervention (B) is 129. So , the conclusion there is the influence of the use of sociodrama to improve the communication skills of Students with Introverted Personality In Senior High School.

Abstract

The present study aimed at enhancing students' learning motivation using bibliocounseling technique. This was a pre-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were 11th grade students of a Senior High School. They were selected through purposive random sampling. The instrument of the study consisted of learning motivation scale and observation guide. The data of the study were analyzed by descriptive analysis and Wilcoxon test. The result of the study showed that there was a difference between the score of pre-test and post-test, there was a 37% increase from the category of intermediate into high. While, the result of statistical analysis on the Wilcoxon test exhibited the significance value of 0.011 < 0.05, in other words, there is differences between pre- and post- treatment, therefore, the proposed hypothesis was accepted. The result of the study showed that the subjects experienced learning motivation improvement because he/she implemented bibliocounseling. Therefore, it could be concluded that bibliocounseling technique is effective to improve students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and religiosity with dark triad of personality of corruption prisoners. The data were obtained from 62 prisoners of Corruption in Kedungpane Semarang Prison selected by quota sampling. The research instruments used are Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS), The New Indices of Religious Orientation Revised (NIROR), and Short Dark Triad (SD3) to measure emotional intelligence, religiosity, and dark triad of personality. The results showed:  (1)  a relationship between emotional intelligence and religiosity together with dark triad of personality of corruption prisoners, (2) a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and dark triad of personality of corruption prisoners, (3) a negative correlation between intrinsic religious orientation and psychopathy, (4) a positive  correlation between extrinsic religious orientation and dark triad of personality of corruption prisoners, and (5) a positive  correlation between quest religious orientation and dark triad of personality of corruption prisoners.
