Abstract

The development of social media among high school students raises various digital ethical problems, such as cyberbullying, the spread of false information, the use of impolite language, and low responsibility in interacting online. This condition shows the importance of strengthening value-based education to form more ethical digital behavior. This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning on students' digital ethics in the social media era. The research uses a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design carried out at SMA Boarding School (MBS) Muhiba Yogyakarta. The research sample amounted to 75 students who were selected through random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire that was tested for validity using Pearson Product Moment and reliability using Cronbach's Alpha (α > 0.70). Data analysis was carried out through descriptive statistics, normality test, linearity test, simple linear regression, and t test. The results of the study showed that PAI learning was in the good category, while students' digital ethics were in the good to very good category. The regression analysis produced a positive regression coefficient of 0.862 with a significance level of p < 0.001, which shows that PAI learning has a positive and significant effect on students' digital ethics. A correlation coefficient (R) value of 0.848 indicates a strong relationship between PAI learning and students' digital ethics, while a determination coefficient value (R²) of 0.719 indicates that PAI learning contributes 71.9% to the variation in students' digital ethics. The remaining 28.1% was influenced by factors other than the study. These findings show that PAI learning contributes significantly in supporting the formation of students' digital ethics in the social media era.

Abstract

The Menging Tradition is a local Hindu ritual practiced by the people of Bangkah Traditional Village, Pacung Village, Tejakula District, Buleleng Regency. This article aims to examine the religious, customary, and cosmological foundations of the Menging Tradition, describe its ritual sequence, and analyze its implications for the social, cultural, and religious life of the Bali Aga community. This study employs a qualitative descriptive-interpretative method. Field data were collected through observation, documentation, literature study, and interviews with nine key informants representing customary leaders, ritual priests, village elders, ordinary villagers, women involved in ritual offerings, youth, and pecalang. The data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the Menging Tradition is grounded in the community’s belief in maintaining the purity of the village and the balance between sekala and niskala. Its implementation includes customary deliberation, preparation of ritual offerings, village purification, collective prayer, observance of customary prohibitions, and closing rites. The tradition strengthens social solidarity through collective participation, preserves Bali Aga cultural identity through the transmission of ancestral values, and deepens religious awareness through self-control, silence, and devotion. Its ecological dimension is reflected in the prohibition of animal slaughter, the avoidance of bloodshed, and the maintenance of village purity during the sacred period. Thus, Menging is not merely an inherited ritual, but a living religious-cultural practice that integrates sacred discipline, communal solidarity, and local wisdom.

Abstract

This study was prompted by a growing paradigm shift among the younger generation, who tend to reduce the meaning of sacred religious symbols merely to architectural decorative ornaments. It aimed to explore the textual forms, functions, and Hindu educational values embedded within the modre script on the ulap-ulap (sacred cloths) of shrines at Pura Agung Pasek Sumertha, East Denpasar. A qualitative approach was employed, combining exploratory-interpretative, ethnographic, and phenomenological methods, with data gathered via participant observation, in-depth interviews, literature review, and documentation. The findings present three main results. First, the forms of the modre script are characterized by sacred curved, circular, and spiral lines integrated with traditional Balinese ornaments, creating esoteric calligrams centered on the theological symbols of Omkara and Rwa Bhineda. Second, the script functions as a multi-layered medium fulfilling religious-theological roles as physical manifestations of the divine, protective-purification purposes as spiritual shields against negative energies, aesthetic religious enrichment, and socio-cultural preservation. Third, it contains comprehensive Hindu educational values covering religious (sradha and bhakti), ethical (susila), spiritual, cultural, aesthetic, social (ngayah tradition), and philosophical dimensions that cultivate cosmic-divine awareness. This study concludes that the modre script on ulap-ulap plays a vital role as an educational and cultural medium that effectively instills noble character while safeguarding the religious cultural identity of Bali against modern urban challenges.

Abstract

The tradition of Ngeyehin Karang in Pedawa Village represents a ritual practice of the Bali Aga community that integrates spirituality, social life, and ecological awareness. This study aims to examine the symbolic meaning, socio-religious function, and ecological contribution of the Ngeyehin Karang tradition in maintaining environmental balance and sustaining freshwater resources. This research employed a qualitative descriptive-narrative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings show that Ngeyehin Karang functions not only as a purification rite for the household yard but also as an ecotheological practice that places nature within a sacred order. This tradition strengthens social solidarity through collective cooperation, serves as a medium for transmitting ecological values to younger generations, and shapes the community’s collective awareness in caring for land, water, and vegetation. These values are rooted in the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, particularly the harmonious relationship between humans, the divine, and the environment. Therefore, Ngeyehin Karang can be understood as a model of environmental conservation based on local spirituality, which remains relevant in responding to contemporary ecological crises.

Abstract

Kemaliq Lingsar, part of the Lingsar Temple Complex in West Lombok Regency, is a sacred space born from the encounter between Balinese Hinduism and Sasak Wetu Telu Islam. Previous studies on Lingsar have largely emphasized social interaction, ritual communication, and tourism, while the visual and architectural dimensions of acculturation have received limited scholarly attention. This study aims to examine the forms of Balinese Hindu acculturation manifested in the architecture, spatial arrangement, visual symbols, and religious ritual practices of Kemaliq Lingsar, and to interpret their philosophical and social meanings. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, visual documentation, interviews with three informants, and literature study, then analyzed using a semiotic framework of denotation and connotation. The results show that Balinese Hindu elements, such as the paduraksa (roofed) gate, guardian statues, sacred stone, holy water, and the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, have been selectively adapted and reinterpreted within the cosmology of the Sasak Wetu Telu community without erasing local identity. Notably, the worship space still faces the qibla rather than the Balinese kaja-kelod axis, indicating that the acculturation operates on the visual and practical layers while the fundamental religious orientation remains Islamic-Sasak. Many Hindu visual elements accumulated gradually through interfaith donation and are now preserved by regulation. The study concludes that Kemaliq Lingsar represents a living model of religious harmony and cultural tolerance rooted in local wisdom.
