Abstract

The ability to recite the Al-Qur'an according to the rules of tajwid is a fundamental skill for secondary school students. However, at SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu, several students have yet to reach this standard due to limited practice time. The Iqro’ method serves as a practical and progressive learning solution to bridge this competency gap. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Iqro’ method in depth and evaluate its effectiveness and constraints in improving students' Al-Qur'an recitation skills at SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with Islamic Education (PAI) teachers, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the Iqro’ method is implemented through three systematic stages: (1) initial competency mapping to determine student placement levels, (2) the application of Active Student Learning Strategies (CBSA) through sima’i (listening) and private tutoring activities, and (3) continuous recording of learning progress in monitoring books. A unique feature of this study is the integration of a specific PAI lesson hour allocated for individual guidance within the dense public school curriculum. The results show that the Iqro’ method effectively improves students' recitation fluency due to its interactive and personalized nature. Nevertheless, its effectiveness is hindered by an unbalanced teacher-student ratio, brief instructional duration, and low intensity of recitation practice at home. Synergy between the school and parents through the use of progress monitoring books remains the key to optimizing learning outcomes.

Abstract

The development of globalization and digital technology brings new challenges in the formation of students' character, especially in the aspects of discipline and social solidarity. This requires schools to present character education strategies that are able to provide direct social experiences to students. This study aims to analyze the role of Hizbul Wathan extracurricular activities in improving student discipline and solidarity at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies with informant 1 Hizbul Wathan mentor who actively participated in the activity. The results showed that Hizbul Wathan activities were able to shape student discipline through routine habits such as timely roll calls, neat attributes, and compliance with activity rules. In addition, the implementation of the team system and the learning by doing method were able to increase solidarity, cooperation, empathy, and a sense of responsibility among students through direct experience in group activities. This study also found that the success of internalizing character values was influenced by the mentor's role model, consistency of habits, and active involvement of students in activities. Despite the obstacles in the form of the influence of digital technology, low initial awareness of students, and limited time for extracurricular activities, overall Hizbul Wathan has proven to be effective as a character education medium in forming students who are disciplined, independent, and have a high level of social awareness.

Abstract

Student discipline and religiosity in vocational schools often remain fragmented, as rule enforcement is not always integrated with internal value formation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of situational leadership by the school principal in strengthening students’ discipline and religious character at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Andong. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a phenomenological perspective. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students selected purposively. The findings reveal that the principal applies situational leadership adaptively by adjusting leadership styles, namely directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating, based on students’ readiness levels. The strengthening of discipline and religiosity is implemented through four main strategies: role modeling, habituation, educational approaches, and continuous evaluation. These strategies effectively transform external compliance into students’ internal awareness, leading to sustainable discipline and religious character. The study concludes that situational leadership based on religious values is effective in integrating discipline and religiosity into a unified character-building framework. This research provides a conceptual model of value-based situational leadership, derived from empirical analysis, that emphasizes the integration of adaptive leadership and internalization of religious values in shaping student character.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has significantly transformed efforts to preserve local culture, including within linguistically distinctive communities such as the Kolok community in Bengkala Village, Buleleng Regency. This community uses Kata Kolok, a natural sign language that functions not only as a means of communication but also as a cultural identity as well as a medium for social and religious expression. This study aims to analyze the role of communication digitalization in preserving local culture, strengthening social inclusion, and sustaining the religiosity of the Kolok community amid digital transformation. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The informants include members of the Kolok community, customary leaders, religious leaders, village officials, and Bengkala residents. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source and method triangulation. The findings show that digitalization through the LETSIGN application, audiovisual documentation, and social media plays an important role in preserving Kata Kolok and expanding cross-group learning access. Digital tools also enhance social inclusion by improving communication between Kolok and non-Kolok residents, thereby reducing interaction barriers in social and customary activities. In addition, digital technology supports the documentation of cultural and religious practices, including traditional ceremonies and performing arts, which strengthens the community’s collective identity. However, challenges remain in understanding cultural context, which cannot be fully represented through digital media alone. In conclusion, communication digitalization serves not only as a documentation tool but also as a strategic instrument for cultural preservation, social inclusion enhancement, and the sustainable maintenance of the Kolok community’s religiosity in an adaptive response to ongoing technological development.

Abstract

This research examines Lontar Eka Prathama as a Balinese Hindu religious text that constructs spirituality through the integrated relation among human beings, nature, and God. The study responds to the tendency to read lontar-based ritual knowledge mainly as technical instructions for ceremony, while its theological, ethical, and spiritual meanings are often left implicit. The objective is to explain the structure of human-nature-God relations, analyze the construction of spiritual knowledge through symbols and rituals, and interpret the ethical-spiritual relevance of the text for Hindu life in the era of globalization. This research uses a descriptive qualitative design with textual study and hermeneutic approach. Primary data are taken from the Indonesian translation of Lontar Eka Prathama, while secondary data are obtained from scholarly works on Hindu theology, symbolism, ritual, and hermeneutics. Data were collected through close reading, textual documentation, classification of key passages, and thematic coding. The analysis was conducted through structural-symbolic interpretation, hermeneutic distanciation, appropriation, and synthesis. The findings show that Lontar Eka Prathama places human life within a sacred process guided by Sanghyang Jagatnāta, integrates natural elements into ritual order, and constructs spiritual knowledge through tirtha, panglukatan, banten, mantra, and life-cycle rites. The text also offers ethical discipline, moral self-control, ecological awareness, and spiritual resilience by linking ritual accuracy with inner purification and cosmic responsibility. The article concludes that Lontar Eka Prathama remains relevant as a constructive source of Balinese Hindu wisdom for contemporary religious life.

Abstract

This study examines the innovative development of the Tilawati method in response to Qur’anic reading difficulties among junior high school students. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted through field observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Bandung, with SMP ITQAN Islamic School Bandung used as a reference for good practice. The findings indicate that students’ reading difficulties are related not only to technical aspects, such as tajwid, makhraj, fashohah, rhythm, and fluency, but also to learning motivation, instructional time, teacher competence, and the availability of supporting media. The study identifies four main directions for developing the Tilawati method: strengthening teacher competence, grouping students according to reading ability, integrating varied and digital learning media, and building a Qur’anic culture within the school environment. The scientific contribution of this study lies in formulating a contextual development framework for the Tilawati method at the junior high school level, which combines classical talaqqi-based learning with adaptive, differentiated, and media-supported instructional strategies. The study concludes that the Tilawati method has the potential to support more effective Qur’anic learning when implemented consistently and aligned with students’ needs and institutional support.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of management functions in improving the quality of the Al-Quran memorization program at Al Abidin International Junior High School, Sragen. The study used a qualitative approach through a case study. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, comprehensive observations, and documentation, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The validity of the measurement data used triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the integration of management functions including planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating has proven effective in significantly improving the quality of the tahfidz program. Planning was carried out by establishing tahfidz as the school's flagship program; organization was realized through the formation of a management structure involving the principal, coordinator, and tahfidz teachers; the implementation of learning applied four methods, namely talaqqi, tikrar, ziyadah, and muroja’ah; and evaluation was carried out periodically through daily and periodic assessments. The success of the program was supported by teacher competence, student motivation, and a conducive environment. However, its implementation still faces several obstacles, including limited time for tahsin learning, accumulation of student motivation, and reflecting memorization abilities among students. This research contributes to the development of Islamic education management, particularly in providing a model of integration of management functions that can be adapted by other Al-Quran-based educational institutions.

Abstract

The nunas paice tradition in Desa Adat Panji, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency, is a Balinese Hindu ritual practice that reflects the relationship between devotion, sacred grace, local dresta, and communal participation. This article aims to interpret the theological, symbolic, and socio-cultural meanings of nunas paice as both a practice of bhakti and a form of communal solidarity among Balinese Hindus. This study employs an interpretive qualitative approach through documentation study and library research. The data were collected from public documents on Desa Adat Panji, reports on piodalan ceremonies at Pura Bukit/Pura Subak Gede Tiing Tali, customary-legal documents of Desa Adat Panji, and recent studies on Balinese Hindu rituals. The analysis was conducted through data reduction, thematic categorization, source triangulation, and symbolic interpretation, supported by interpretive anthropology, ritual theory, social construction theory, and the Tri Hita Karana perspective. The findings show that nunas paice should not be understood merely as the act of receiving ritual food or ceremonial offerings. Rather, it functions as a micro-religious practice through which the community interprets divine grace, sacred symbols, and social togetherness. The novelty of this article lies in its interpretation of nunas paice as a space of communal religiosity that integrates theological awareness, symbolic acceptance of sacred blessing, and the reproduction of social solidarity through collective ritual participation. This article concludes that nunas paice represents a form of Balinese Hindu local wisdom embodied in everyday practice and contributes to maintaining the balance of parahyangan, pawongan, and palemahan within communal religious life.
