This paper aims to find out the types of code-switching and code-mixing found in the utterances of Chu2 in the BanG Dream anime series season 2 episode 3, 8, and 9 and analyze factors affecting doing code switching and code mixing. The research was conducted using a qualitative method through observation to find out the types and the reason for every code-switching and code-mixing found in Chu2’s utterances. The findings showed that there were a total of 23 data, including 13 data of code-switching and 10 data of code-mixing. Three types of code-switching used by Chu2 were tag switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching. Meanwhile, there can only be found one type of code-mixing used by Chu2 in her utterances which was insertion. The findings showed that the reason Chu2 performs the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing was because of her preferred language to speak English instead of her mother language Japanese, and her social identity as an international high school student which acts as a background to her tendency to constantly switch and mix between Japanese and English because she used to speak English in her school.

Abstract

The scheming and calculating anti-heroine, Rebecca Crawley, Rebecca Sharp with her former name, is one of the female protagonists portrayed by William Makepeace Thackeray in his novel, Vanity Fair (1848). As an amoral woman of disadvantageous origins, she has the desire to become a respectful and influential person. However, on the way to achieving her ambition, her love of money and desire for a higher social status lead her to commit several crimes such as disregarding her son, cheating on her husband, and manipulating people. The views about Becky differ. It is still disputed if she is a person of guilt or an innocent and sympathetic individual who does what she must to gain higher status and affluence in a society in which a woman does not have many choices or possibilities to have what she desires. If she does not act the way she does, she will not be able to get by, or worse, she will have to do jobs degrading for women under the social conditions of the first half of the nineteenth century during the Regency period. This study aims to briefly dwell on the titles and the subtitles of Vanity Fair and treat Becky as a person who comes from humble origins and struggles to climb the social ladder by resorting to any kind of misdeed to help her way up, which would normally make her a social criminal, yet it is disputed because she is found relatable due to the conditions of the time.

Abstract

The social identity of Indonesian feminism is the result of a long process of interaction with universal feminism, but is rooted in the collective culture of the people of the archipelago, which is religious, polite and cultural. The feminist perspective in Sarinah's book is explained in three phases of human evolution, the first phase of women occupying a lower position than men, the second phase women occupy a higher position than men, the third phase women again occupy a lower position than men. The purpose of this study is to analyze the social identity of Indonesian feminism and understand the process of forming social identity of Indonesian feminism according to Sarinah's book. Qualitative methods used through literature review and interpretation of events. Based on the analysis, description and process of social identity formation, Indonesian feminism has four identities. There is a process that influences one's understanding of Indonesian Feminism Social Identity, namely self-classification and social comparison. The two processes work together to explain a particular form of behavior as a woman with a social identity of Indonesian feminism, which is qualitatively different from universal feminism, that identity is socialist religious feminism. That identity is full of love for family, patient and religious, a concept that was initially very social and then became the social identity of Indonesian feminism.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the news regarding Anies Baswedan after the declaration of the presidential nomination by the NasDem Party based on Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis approach. The data source comes from news related to Anies Baswedan in the online news media Detik.com. Documentation techniques were used in this study through observing, taking notes, and capturing screens. The data is in the form of the title and text of Anies Baswedan's news coverage on the online media Detik.com for two months, namely between 03 October 2022 and 03 December 2022. The results of data identification at the textual level and discourse practice show a tendency that is not neutral in reporting on Anies Baswedan. Reports on the online media Detik.com tend not to support Anies Baswedan in his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election and favor other figures. On the dimension of sociocultural practice, news production related to Anies Baswedan on Detik.com is related to situational aspects and the institutional background of the media. In addition, Indonesia's social and political context after the 2017 DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election and the 2019 presidential election influenced Anies Baswedan's opinion as an opposition figure to President Jokowi's government, which was supported by the Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan.

Abstract

In reading texts, whether literary works or non-literary works, the readers may find similarity between one text and other texts. This similarity creates a connection which is called intertextuality. Fairclough (1989) stated that intertextuality is a part of interpretation of a text based on Critical Discourse Analysis. There are three stages of Critical Discourse Analysis: description, interpretation, and explanation. This article is about an intertextuality between Elizabeth Aston’s The Second Mrs. Darcy and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The focus of this study is to find and classify the similarity between two novels, interpret and explain the intertextual similarities between them. The findings show that there are 4 intertextual features which can be found in the data; introductory sentence, characters, settings, and plots. These show that Elizabeth Aston’s The Second Mrs. Darcy has several similarities which connect to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The possible motifs of Elizabeth Aston in building intertextuality links between her The Second Mrs. Darcy and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice are (1) to create continuity of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, (2) to show her expertise in writing is as great as Jane Austen, (3) to create or re-write the existing idea by developing different or new focus
