Abstract

Non-Traditional Security Studies arise because the threats experienced by countries in the world are no longer based on their military strength. As the case today, where humanity is being hit by a pandemic caused by Coronavirus, which then causes a new disease called Covid-19. This disease indirectly threatens human security, both from a national and international health perspective. Covid-19 has successfully spread throughout the country thanks to the ease of mobility of globalization between citizens. This has led many countries to create a policy that makes them restrict all social activities, even closing accessibility that crosses the country's territorial borders. The absence of a vaccine has made the pandemic even more feared. In the end, China declared that they had succeeded in creating vaccines for Covid-19 and revealed that they would provide assistance in the form of free vaccines for countries in need. This became known as China's Vaccine Diplomacy. However, not a few countries have questioned the main concerns of that, including the East Asia region. The good that China has done through vaccine diplomacy has actually generated doubts about what China is actually trying to achieve, thus leading several other countries, such as the United States, to participate in the vaccine distribution arena. Therefore, this study intends to find out China's real goals in carrying out vaccine diplomacy. By using qualitative research methods, it can be concluded that vaccine diplomacy is indeed used by China as an effort to become a superpower country in the international political constellation.

Abstract

India's relationship with the United States can be said to be volatile from time to time. This is inseparable from the South Asian region which has a high level of conflict vulnerability such as war, nuclear tests, and so on. During the cold war, this area was also a contested area between the Soviet Union and the United States. Towards the end of the Cold War, the United States approached India amid the intimate relations between India and Russia. When the Soviet Union collapsed, India also seemed to accept the United States' approach, one of which was through defense diplomacy. This paper intends to analyze the defense diplomacy process carried out by the United States to India in the period 1984-2000. This research is qualitative research with data collection techniques of documentation studies, as well as the conceptual framework of strategic engagement from Cottey and Forster. The results of the study found that the United States' defense diplomacy process to India could bring the relations between the two countries closer and expand cooperation which is not limited to defense, but also cooperation in other fields.

Abstract

This paper will explain the strategies that must be carried out by the Indonesian government to minimize transnational crime. Transnational crimes against Indonesian migrant workers working on foreign ships have so far not received special attention. The increase in cases every year, especially 2019-2020 shows that this transnational crime must be a priority for the Indonesian government. Why is this important, it is part of Indonesia's foreign policy and diplomacy to protect the human rights of its citizens. This protection is a form of state commitment to provide a sense of security to humans, especially Indonesian citizens. This paper uses a qualitative method in the form of a case study with secondary data analysis techniques and a thorough literature review. The results obtained are that the strategies that must be carried out by the government are 1) tightening the recruitment channels for migrant workers 2) national and international law enforcement, 3) bilateral and multilateral diplomacy 4) the use of digital applications, and 5) collaboration with NGOs such as the ILO. This paper can become a reference for the government's strategy to formulate a pentahelic policy in solving crimes against Indonesian migrant workers abroad.

Abstract

Using a foreign policy analysis (FPA) approach, this paper describes the two main factors behind Japan's cooperation in the Jakarta-Surabaya higher-speed rail project through the Summary Record On The Java North Line Upgrading Project with Indonesia. First, the domestic factor, where Japan experienced stagnation in economic growth. Second, external factors related to the international system. Namely, Indonesia's economic and political potential in the Southeast Asian region as well as China's influence in Indonesia. As a result of this paper, Japan's high-speed rail technology exports to Indonesia are part of Japan's economic growth strategy. The Jakarta-Surabaya higher-speed rail project is an important part for Japan to affirm its commitment to Indonesia and balance China's influence in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Abstract

United Nations Women (UN Women) struggles to restore the rights of women in Afghanistan who have been discriminated against in all fields, particularly on health, social, education, politics, and even the economy. The basic causes of this discrimination are the long causal history of the Afghanistan regimes that went south, the lack of knowledge of applicable laws, the existence of cultural traditions that are still inherent among the Afghanistan people, lack of education, extreme ideology and its law which tends to not defend women. Therefore, UN Women strives so that Afghanistan women can be seen and treated the same as men. This change is expected to be applied in every field, where women can participate in politics, can get education by studying at school, can receive good health insurance, and so on. UN Women's efforts are absolutely necessary to support women in Afghanistan to regain their rights and advance the status of women in Afghanistan, and able to make positive changes for all women in Afghanistan.

Abstract

Aging population is a serious challenge for the Japanese Government. The increasing proportion of the elderly in the population and slower population growth are the basic reasons behind Japan's aging population. The challenges with the aging population have affected Japan's economic performance by increasing the burden and social security benefits. The Japanese government said that this challenge had become a "national crisis". In 2018, the Japanese Government issued an amendment to the migration control law, namely the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, which is one of Japan's new steps to open up to foreigners. The existence of this law as a control to bring in foreigners with high and low skills. The policy is expected to be able to fill the jobs left behind. In bringing in foreigners as workers, Japan cooperates with several Asian countries such as Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Taiwan. Through this policy, it is hoped that Japan can promote foreign direct investment (FDI) as part of Abenomics reform.
