Abstract

AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui keanekaragaman fauna khususnya kupu-kupu kekayaan jenis, kelimpahan, indeks keanekaragaman serta indeks kemerataan jenis. Metode yang digunakan adalah point count, line transect dan flight trap. Radius pengamatan pada setiap titik ditentukan berdasarkan tipe vegetasi dan kemampuan pengamat, sementara lamanya waktu pengamatan pada setiap titik hitung adalah 10 menit. Analisis data mengunakan indeks kekayaan jenis Margalefs (DMg), Indeks keanekaragaman jenis Shannon-Wiener, dan indeks kemerataan jenis Simpson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 55 jenis kupu-kupu ditemukan di kawasan Taman Kehati Universitas Negeri Semarang. Jenis yang ditemukan tergolong dalam 5 (lima) famili yaitu famili Papilionidae, Pieridae, Lycaenidae , Nymphalidae, dan Hesperidae (Tabel 1). Hasil penelitian juga menemukan satu jenis termasuk jenis yang dilindungi UU No 5 Tahun 1990, PP No 7 Tahun 1999 dan masuk dalam kategori CITES apendik II, yaitu jenis Troides helena.AbstractThe research tried to examine the diversity of butterflies in terms of species richness, abundance, diversity index, and evenness. The methods employed were point count, line transect and flight trap. The observation radius in each point was determined based on the vegetation type and the observers capability, and the interval time for observation in each point was 10 minutes. Data was analyzed using Margalefs species richness index (DMg), Shannon-Wieners species diversity index, and Simpsons species evenness index. There were 55 butterfly species in the area of Taman Kehati Semarang State University. The butterflies were from five (5) families, i.e. Papilionidae, Pieridae, Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, and Hesperidae (Table 1). Observation has found one species that is categorized as protected based on Law No. 5 Year 1990, Governmental Regulation No. 7 Year 1999, listed in CITES Appendix II; the species was Troides helena.

Abstract

The most common human pathogen that colonizes in a third of healthy people around the world are Staphylococcus aureus, and one of the materials allegedly able to overcome the pathogen is resin. Resin has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years to treat diseases. The antimicrobial activity of natural resins can be associated with a variety of organic compounds contained in them such as diterpenoids and triterpenoids. This research aimed to explore the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of Pinus merkusii, P. oocarpa, P. insularis, Agathis loranthifolia resins and essential oil. Resin was separated by distillation process to get essential oil and the residue was extracted using n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), and methanol (MeOH). Antioxidant activity was performed by DPPH (1,1diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl) radical scavenging method. The antibacterial activity of resins and essential oil of the samples determined using the disc diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The results showed that the yield of resin extract was ranging from 8.44 % to 95.56%. All extracts and essential oil could not inhibit E coli growth but inhibit the S. aureus growth. This experiment concluded that resin n-hexane extract from P.oocarpa was the most potent as antibacterial activity against S. aureus. All of the samples used had less potential antioxidant activity compared to positive control ascorbic acid. Result of this study show that pine resin from Indonesia has potential as an antibacterial agent.

Abstract

Kidney is very susceptible to damage by toxicological compounds such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl­4). CCl4 produce free radicals, which cause lipid peroxidation and kidney damage and free radical release, which can be prevented by the administration of exogenous antioxidants, such as Chlorella vulgaris.The aim of study was to determine an effect of antioxidant of C. vulgaris on the histopathological features of Wistar rat  kidney which is induced by CCl4. Experimental study with completely randomized design. The variable was histopathology features of the kidneys. The doses of C. vulgaris extract were 3 mg, 4 mg, and 5 mg per 100 grams of rat body weight (BW). The administration of C. vulgaris extract was performed within 30 days, while the CCl4 induction (0.25 ml / 100 g BW) was administered orally on the day 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, and 26. Parameters were histopathology features of renal damage, proportion of tubular cell damage, and Bowmans space diameter. The results showed the administration of C. vulgaris extract was able to reduce the impact of damage caused by CCl4 (p<0.05). This was supported by histologic observations, which was showing a decrease of picnotic and vacuolated cells, normal brush border, and decrease of Bowmans space. In conclusion, 5 mg / 100 g BW of C. vulgaris extract can effectively protect the kidney from damage        caused  by        CCl4. The results of this study strongly support further research on immunostimulant content test C. vulgaris and determine the efficient dose for representative animals mammals also in humans.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to study the effect of using the omega-3 (O-3), omega-6(O-6), and synthetic cholesterol (Ch) on the reproductive quality of the male quails.Samples of this research were 35 of 4 weeks old male quails with 60 to 98 g of weight.The samples were grouped randomly into 7 groups, that are R-0 (control-group), R-1(0,163 mg O-3/100 g body weight), R-2 (0,326 mg O-3/100 g bw), R-3 (0,163 mgO-6/100 gbw), R-4 (0,326 mg O6/100 g bw), R-5 (20 mg Ch/100 g bw), and R-6 (40mg Ch/100 g bw). The treatment was given per oral in three periods with 5 days ofeach. there was a week intervening between periods. During the research, samples weregifted rations a basalic-woof (basalic-feed) for twice/day, at 7:00 and 16:00 o’clock. theamount of basalic-woof were 20 g of feed/100 g body weight/day. Water administeredin an ad libitum manner. This research was implemented during 8 weeks. The variableswere the level of testosterone, blood qualities, voice-qualities, color brightness of chestfur, and testis size. The voice quality data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA continuedby orthogonal contrast test. The other data were analyzed by descriptive statistic. Theresult of this research confi rmed that synthetic omega-3 and omega-6 (0,326 mg/100 gbw) and synthetic cholesterol (20 mg/100 g bw) could increase the reproductive qualityof the male quails.Keywords: synthetic cholesterol, synthetic omega-3, synthetic omega-6,reproductive quality

Abstract

Sea urchins is the member of Echinoidea. This species can be found in tropical marine water to the poles. The study aimed to know the types, the abundance and spread of sea urchins in Bengkayang Regency. The research, used the transect method. Each station consisted of 3 transects with a length of 50 meters from the shore into the sea with the distance of 10 meters among the transects. This research obtained five species consisting of three species of the Diadema (genus) and two species of the Echinotrix (genus) i.e. Diadema antillarium, D. savignyi, D. setosum, Echinotrix calamaris and E. deadema. The density of sea urchins in Lemukutan Island ranges from 273 – 453 ind/Ha. The Density of sea urchins on Penata Kecil island ranges from 167 - 347 ind / Ha and on Penata Besar Island has a range from 307 - 387 ind/Ha. The highest diversity of sea urchins was found in Penata Kecil Island of (1.2355). The distribution of sea urchins in Lemukutan and Penata Besar Island was categorized into clumped and evenly distributed, while the distribution of sea urchin on Penata Kecil Island is included in the clustered and random categories. Distribution of sea urchins on the island is influenced by several factors such as sea water waves and food contained in the environment.

Abstract

Fingerprints are probably the most common biometric technique used in personal identification. The potential of fingerprints to determine sex and human identification has been well exhibited. However, very few studies have been conducted correlating finger prints with blood groups. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of fingerprint patterns based on ABO blood groups. The total sample consisted of 302 medical students of YARSI University Jakarta comprising of 187 females and 115 males. The fingerprint patterns were classified into arches, loops (ulnar and radial), whorls. counted and comprised triradius and total ridge count. The data analysis used Chi Square and Student-T test.The study results indicated that there were fourth especially pattern type. Significantly (p<0.05), frequency of loop types (60.36%) was highest in B blood, whorl type was highest in O blood (40.45%) and arches in AB blood was higher (5.12%) as compared to other groups. Dankmeijer indices of O and AB blood were 3.78 and 11.34, respectively. There were indicated significantly (p<0.05) difference of average ridge count total among ABO blood groups. Abstract

Two important issues for establishment of nutrient criteria are identifying which nutrient limits algal growth and determining the concentration of that nutrient enabling nuisance growths. The purposes of this research were: 1) to examine the nutrient (TN, TP, ratio of TN/TP) dynamic in Rawapening Lake spatially and temporally, 2) to identify Nutrient Limiting of Algal Growth in Rawapening Lake, and 2) to determine the nutrient criteria for enabling algae growth in Rawapening Lake. The research was conducted using a survey method in 7 sites from February to August 2016. The result showed that spatially Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphor (TP) in the lake were not evenly distributed and temporally influenced by the inflow. The development of algae biomass in Rawapening Lake determined ratio of TN/TP. Nutrient criteria as follow: oligotrophic was 5.96 - 14.39, mesotrophic was 14.39 - 42.15, eutrophic 42.15 - 51.65, and hyper-eutrophic > 51.65. These criteria could be used in designing controlling eutrophication problem by arranging nutrient input from both external and internal sources in order to meet those limit. The benefits of research contributes to the development of environmental monitoring methods to assess the trophic status using more appropriate in accordance with the conditions of the tropics region. It also could be used for consideration in policy direction and orientation of land use in catchment areas in relation to water quality of the lake.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai ekologi pemangsaan ikan oskar (Astronotus ocellatus Agassiz) ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola waktu makan, pengaruh ukuran mangsa terhadap tingkat pemangsaan, pengaruh kepadatan mangsa terhadap tingkat pemangsaan, perilaku pemangsaan, dan mengkaji potensi dampak introduksi ikan oskar. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Danau Rawa Pening, Ambarawa, dan di Laboratorium Biologi Universitas Diponegoro. Pola waktu makan diuji dengan mencatat jumlah mangsa yang dikonsumsi setiap 2 jam. Pengujian pengaruh ukuran mangsa terhadap tingkat pemangsaan oskar dilakukan dengan memberi mangsa berbagai ukuran. Pengujian pengaruh kepadatan mangsa terhadap tingkat pemangsaan untuk uji satu mangsa, dilakukan dengan memberi mangsa secara bertahap sampai tercapai jumlah optimum. Untuk uji dua mangsa, jumlah mangsa diberikan dalam berbagai proporsi (16:4, 12:8, 10:10, 8:12, 4:16). Sifat pemangsaan ikan oskar diuji dengan mendedahkannya selama 1 hari di stasiun lapangan, kemudian dilakukan analisis saluran pencernaan. Sedangkan di laboratorium dicatat tingkat konsumsi tujuh jenis mangsa setiap 24 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ikan oskar bersifat diurnal. Ukuran mangsa (hambatan morfologi), mempengaruhi tingkat pemangsaan ditunjukkan dengan konsumsi mangsa yang berukuran lebih kecil dari ukuran mulut ikan oskar (< 1,4 cm). Tingkat pemangsaan dipengaruhi secara nyata oleh pertambahan tingkat kepadatan mangsa (y = -0,0233x2 + 1,4471x – 1,6357; r2 = 0,959; p>0,05 dan y = -0,0348x2 + 1,9155x–4,7821; r2=0,855; p>0,05) dan menunjukkan adanya respon fungsional (I dan II). Ikan oskar menunjukkan sifat pergeseran mangsa dari proporsi mangsa (16:4) ke (4:16), mengikuti kepadatan mangsa yang lebih tinggi. Ikan oskar mengkonsumsi semua jenis mangsa (tujuh jenis) sehingga dapat disebut sebagai karnivora generalis. Berdasarkan hasil percobaan dan studi literatur, dapat dinyatakan bahwa ikan oskar berpotensi untuk menjadi mantap dan invasif, dan menimbulkan gangguan terhadap komponen biotik lokal pada komunitas perairan. Abstract

Gandarusa (Justicia gendarussa Burm.f.) is an Indonesian medicinal plant that has many benefits as drug and male contracetive. For industrial needs, Gandarusa must be available in large quantity. Hairy root culture is one of methode to produce phytochemistry compound. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of various density of Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain LB510 on hairy roots induction of gandarusa (Justicia gendarussa Burm.f.) leaf plant. Leaf explants were inoculated in MS liquid medium with various density of OD600 = 0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.4; and 0.5. Explants were co-cultivated for 2 days on MS solid medium without any hormone then sub-cultured on MS solid medium containing antibiotic cefotaxim 300 ppm, in dark condition. The data were analyzed descriptively and statistically. The results showed that various density of Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain LB510 was affected the lenght of hairy roots induction of J. gendarussa Burm.f., but these was not effected toward lenght formation time and number of hairy root. The treatment of OD600 0.2 was the best treatment for hairy root induction on Justicia gendarussa Burm. f. This data could be used for optimized the quality of methode of hairy root induction.

Abstract

Medical workers representing the group is the most consistently are exposed to low doses of ionizing radiation, prolonged low-level ionizing radiation can induce chromosomal aberrations (CAs). This study would evaluate the cytogenetic effect using the CAs based on dicentric, and cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus (CBMN) assay on hospital workers. The exposed group dividedto Interventional and Diagnostic groups then compared to non exposed group. The accumulated absorbed doses calculated for the radiation workers were below 5mSv. Blood samples were obtained from 29 samples of medical workers , and 15 samples of control. The Study showed that the frequency of dicentric chromosomes both in exposed and control were not found. In case of micronuclei, the mean frequencies were observed in exposed group that was (19 6.22) and (16.25 6.04) respectively and the control group was (10.47.79). Frequency MN/1000 cell in the lymphocytes both in the two exposed group was relatively higher compared to control group. However the MN frequencies in all sample group was still in normal range . In this study chronic low radiation dose exposure in the hospital had no significant effect on chromosome aberration nor micronuclei. The benefit of the study is to enrich the potential usefulness of cytogenetic assay providing safety index in medical surveillance programs. The results suggest that education and retraining of staff concerning radiation safety guidelines need to be done to maintain the safety aspects of radiation.
