Technology has empowered rural school learners to learn English actively without any hesitation. This study aimed to describe how rural EFL learners state their emotional and behavioral approaches to learning English using technology. A total of 119 learners who were registered in rural schools voluntarily participated in a survey study. Quantitative data were collected as an online survey by administering a scale on technology use tendency. Percentages were focused on determining learnersâ€™ tendency levels. The results reveal that rural EFL learners tended to be involved in technology integration classes. Such technology increased enthusiasm, participation, creativity, and task completion. However, some learners did not align with the integration, as technology was believed to support learning but not replace a teacher. Discussion and implied recommendations are provided to emphasize the results.

English Language Teaching (ELT) in English as Foreign Language (EFL) countries is not far from the concepts of English as Lingua Franca (ELF). This study aimed to investigate how teachersâ€™ perception toward English varieties in ELT. This study carried out using qualitative design with interview as the instrument. This research involved three teachers of Senior High School in Kutai Kartanegara with different schools, backgrounds, and experiences. There were three aspects discussed; teachersâ€™ perception towards native speaker model, teachersâ€™ perception on variations of English, and teachersâ€™ perception on ELF and cultural understanding. The results showed English teachers still oriented to native speakerâ€™s model since the goal of learning English refers to English proficiency in standard English. However, the teachers were also aware with the English variations which was used globally. This research contributed the consideration of incorporating the idea of native speakerism and ELF into English language teaching.

This study explores the language diversity in hotel signage in Surabaya. The hotel signage can be met at many places in the areas of hotels and provides guidelines for their guests during staying at the hotel. The aim of this study is to explore language diversity in hotel signage in the hotels. To describe the use of language diversity of hotel signage, this study was designed in the frame ofÂ the qualitative case study in which the data were collected through on-site observation and taking the photos of hotel signage in the areas of hotels. The study found five types of signage that are used at the hotels, such as identification signage, directional signage, informational signage, orientation signage, and regulatory signage. This study provides insight into the importance of language diversity in the hotel industry and the need for the hotels to give information through diversities of language signage to their guests. This study indicates the language diversities of hotel signage which have multiple register use.

Along with the digital era enhancement, the criteria for qualified teachers to possess not only content and pedagogical knowledge but also technological competence. This study examined the digital competencies of 47 fifth-semester English education students at Sanata Dharma University. Grounded in the TPACK framework, this study explored student teachersâ€™ competencies to integrate technology into English language teaching. This study used a mixed-methods approach. The qualitative data showed that student teachers demonstrated an average digital competency score of 76.87 (SD = 9.73). Qualitative findings revealed that student teachers' digital competencies are shown through innovative teaching practices, information literacy and evaluation, collaboration and resource sharing, responsible technology use, and technical know-how. The study's insights are expected to inform curriculum makers, educators, and policymakers about the current state of digital competencies among future English student teachers, allowing more targeted improvements in teacher education programs.Â

This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis methods on novels translated from English into Indonesian. This study was conducted to investigate the type of translation deviation at the syntactic level, in the question sentences used in dialogue of Stephenie Meyerâ€™s Eclipse novel. The source data on the study was taken from Eclipse novel as the source text and Gerhana novel as the target text. The novel has a good translation result, but there are some grammatical deviations when translated into the target text. Translation deviations by using Newmarkâ€™s theory. The results of the study showed that (1) translation deviations found in question sentences that are syntactic, lexical, and word arrangement deviations; (2) the causes of such deviations are (1) the presence of untranslated words, grammatical errors, and the use of individual languages; (3) the impact of these deviations is that the sentence becomes ungrammatical, the sentence is not commensurate, there is interference in Indonesian, the text is impolite, the text is ambiguous, and the text is unclear. In general, it can be concluded that the occurrence of deviations at this syntactic level has more influence on the grammatical aspect due to the difference in sentence structure in two different languages. Translators strive to translate the text so that it is easily understood by the reader and adapted to the target reader so that many grammatical aspects are not translated.Â

This research aims to enrich academic discourse on inclusive language by exploring its role in creating harmony in digital communication through the use of shared, non-offensive and accommodating language. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Triangulation was carried out to identify consistency of data from various sources, thereby increasing the validity of the findings. Data collection methods include interviews, focus group discussions (FGD) with 10 colleagues who have visual impairments, observation, and documentation. As researchers with visual impairments, researchers have a significant role in assessing the accessibility of social media, news platforms, and public service media for users with screen readers. The research results show that common language has been implemented well in various digital communication media. Recommendations for significant improvements were emphasized, especially in the use of accommodating language for accessibility features in news media. It is hoped that the practical implications of this research can provide recommendations to the government and policy makers in managing social media, news media and public service media, to create policies and technical guidelines for implementing a common, accommodating and non-offensive language. These findings will benefit not only individuals with visual impairments, but also people with other disabilities as well as non-disabled individuals, by ensuring inclusive communication for all.

This study employed a phenomenological approach to investigate the experiences of principals and teachers in Indonesia in achieving work-life balance and well-being. The findings revealed that principals and teachers face various challenges that can negatively impact their work-life balance, including heavy workloads, high expectations, limited resources, and a lack of work-life balance. On the other hand, the study also identified several positive aspects of working in schools that can contribute to enhanced well-being, such as a collaborative culture, a sense of purpose, and building relationships with students. Based on the research findings, recommendations are presented to promote work-life balance for principals and teachers in Indonesia. These recommendations include enhancing support, leadership development, collaboration, workload reviews, mental health resources, flexible work arrangements, and a culture that values personal time.

This study explores studentsâ€™ perception of English Club as a platform for enhancing their speaking skills. The English Club provides a supportive and interactive environment where students can improve their speaking skills through group discussions, role playing, interactive game, storytelling and presentation. This study was conducted at English Club of English Study program, Universitas Timor. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the data were collected through observation and interviews with 5 students who actively participate in the English Club. The findings presented that most students perceive the English Club as beneficial in improving their speaking ability especially in pronunciation, fluency and vocabulary. Additionally, students appreciate the informal learning atmosphere which reduce their fear and anxiety in speaking. This study concludes English teachers can improve studentsâ€™ English language proficiency by implementing or developing the English Club's teaching methodology and creating a more relaxed and enjoyable learning atmosphere.

This study employed a quantitative approach with a true experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design to examine the influence of using Jimmy Fallon Talk Show on students' speaking achievement. The sample consisted of two classes, each with 32 students, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through speaking tests administered before and after the treatment and analyzed using normality tests and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental class compared to the control class, with a higher average posttest score in the group that used the talk show as a learning medium. These findings have implications for teachers, students, and future researchers and provide new insights into the influence of using Jimmy Fallon Talk Show as a medium to enhance students' speaking achievement.

The importance of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) had increased due to the growing demand for English competence worldwide, especially in Southeast Asia. This research explored EFL teachersâ€™ perceptions regarding the teaching of English as a Lingua Franca and how their understanding of ELF influenced classroom practices. A qualitative survey design was employed to gather data from 15 EFL teachers in Indonesia and Thailand through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that although the majority of teachers were aware of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), they continued to teach primarily British English. They wished to assist students with language and cultural skills since they recognized that English differed by culture. To support teaching English in a more inclusive and relevant way, it was important to increase to more ELF knowledge, improved training, and updated global communication curricula are all need for teachers to advance.
