Abstract

The agricultural sector has gradually adopted the circular economy concept through various implementation models.  Lampung Province as Indonesia’s largest producer of cassava with contribution reached 34.55%  of total cassava production in Indonesia (2019) has also applied  circular economy practices in cassava production.  . These practices included crop–livestock integrated system  that reuse cassava waste  for fertilizer, and value-added products. However, the implementation of circular economy in cassava production systems still faced   various challenges, particularly in optimizing resource use and ensuring consistent economic benefits. In addition, the  socio-economic impacts of circular ecnomy remained insufficiently examined. Therefore, this study aimed  to analyze the socio-economic benefits generated by circular economy practices in cassava agribusiness. The research was conducted over a six-month period in agropolitan villages of Lampung Province. The results showed that farmers reuse cassava leaves as livestock feed and cassava stems as planting material and natural organic fertilizer. In addition, direct economic benefits from cassava waste utilization reached IDR 3,667,000, accounting for 21.54% of total farm income. These findings indicated that circular economy practices contributed positively to farmers’ income and support sustainable agribusiness development in agropolitan areas.   Keywords: Cassava, Circular Economy, Food Sustainability

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the marketing channels, margins, and marketing efficiency of layer chicken eggs at XYZ in Natar District, East Lampung Regency. By utilizing a case study method with both qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis, the research measured the efficiency of layer chicken eggs by calculating the marketing margin, producer's share, and price transmission elasticity. This study involved 21 retailers, 5 wholesalers, and 9 collectors as respondents that selected by using a snowball sampling method. , to ensure that the selected traders were genuinely engaged in the marketing of purebred chicken eggs. The results identified three marketing channels: , 1) producer–retailer–consumer, 2) producer–collector–retailer–consumer, and 3) producer–collector–wholesaler–retailer–consumer. In each marketing channels, different marketing margins were formed across each marketing institution. Marketing channel I (producer–retailer–consumer) was the most efficient as it yielded the highest producer's share of 96%. Although all three channels were classified as efficient based on a producer's share exceeding 60%, the price transmission elasticity value of 1.17 indicated that the marketing system was not yet fully efficient due to imperfect price transmission mechanisms. In conclusion, shorter marketing chains would lead to higher efficiency and a larger price share for the producer.   Key words: chicken egg, margins, marketing channel, producer share

Abstract

This research aims to analyze income farming and comparing the actual condition with the condition that should be in income farming of cassava in Tulang Bawang Tengah district, Tulang Bawang Barat regency.  This research uses a survey method.  This research was intentionally (purposive) in Tulang Bawang Tengah district with the consideration that the location was cassava production center in Tulang Bawang Barat Regency and has a tapioca factory as market location.  Farmer petanits were chosen randomly.  The results showed, there are two cassava marketing channels in Tulang Bawang Barat Regency, namely Channel I (Farmer–Factory) and Channel II (Farmer–Collector–Factory). The majority of farmers (90%) preferred Channel I because it is more efficient and generates higher profits than Channel II, which is used by only 10% of farmers. Cassava farming was profitable under both marketing channels, as indicated by R/C ratio values greater than one. However, Channel I generated higher farm income, amounting to IDR 6,053,909.81 per hectare based on cash costs and IDR 4,202,364.95 per hectare based on total costs, compared with Channel II, which generated only IDR 3,346,204.80 per hectare and IDR 776,610.51 per hectare, respectively. The R/C ratios of Channel I (1.68 and 1.39) were also higher than those of Channel II (1.48 and 1.11). These findings indicate that direct marketing to processing factories is more efficient and provides higher income for farmers than marketing through intermediaries.   Keywords: cassava, income, marketing channel
