Abstract

The Government of Samarinda City has undertaken digital transformation efforts and launched the Samagov application as part of the Samarinda Smart City initiative, where the success of its implementation largely depends on users’ perceptions of its Usability. If the application is difficult to operate, public engagement will be hindered, resulting in suboptimal utilization. Therefore, measuring Usability is essential to understand whether Samagov meets users’ expectations and needs. This study employs a quantitative approach using surveys and the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire to evaluate the Usability level of the Samagov application. The SUS method, developed by John Brooke in 1986, consists of a ten-item questionnaire designed to assess users’ perceptions of system ease of use. Data were collected by distributing an online questionnaire via Google Form to 40 respondents, consisting of internal staff of Diskominfo and external users who had accessed Samagov services. The calculation process involved subtracting 1 from odd-numbered items, subtracting 5 from even-numbered items, summing all scores, and then multiplying the total by 2.5. The average SUS score obtained from 40 respondents for the Samagov application was 62.56. Based on SUS interpretation scales, a score of 51.7–62.6 falls into grade D with the adjective rating “OK” at the 15–59th percentile. An “OK” score indicates that the application has relatively low Usability and requires improvements in user comfort and ease of use. The interpretation also suggests that while the application is fairly good, it has not yet reached the expected Usability standards for Samagov users. This study concludes that the Usability of the Samagov application, as measured by the SUS method, is rated as “Good” but highlights the need for further improvements in user comfort and ease of use. The SUS method has proven effective in assessing application Usability, providing valuable feedback for developers to enhance Samagov’s functionality and ensure it meets user need.

Abstract

East Kalimantan is a region with a high level of biodiversity, including endemic plant species such as Eusideroxylon zwageri (Ulin), Coelogyne pandurata (Black Orchid), and Nepenthes spp. (Pitcher Plant). Unfortunately, public awareness especially among young generations of the importance of conserving these local flora remains low due to the lack of engaging and contextual learning media. This study aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based educational media that visualizes interactive 3D models and descriptive information about East Kalimantan endemic plants. The research applies an interactive multimedia-based Research and Development (R&D) approach through stages of observation, documentation, 3D modeling, application development using Unity and Vuforia SDK, and testing involving students from local schools. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test designs, along with expert validation on content and usability. The results show that the developed AR application effectively enhances students’ understanding of local biodiversity and environmental awareness. This media also provides an innovative solution for digital conservation education that integrates technology with local ecological content.

Abstract

The school library has an important role in supporting the teaching and learning process in schools, one of which is the library at SMA Negeri 13 Samarinda. The library has a collection of books totaling hundreds of titles. The book collection is grouped into several categories such as general subject books, religious books, newspapers, comics, fairy tales, and story books, and many other books. With many different types of book groups, the library at SMA Negeri 13 Samarinda still uses a conventional system where the library admin uses archives or notebooks placed in cupboards such as book borrowing and book return archives, this often makes books that will be borrowed by students difficult to find. The goal is to be able to improve library services at SMA Negeri 13 Samarinda. The conclusion is that the Library Application at SMA Negeri 13 Samarinda was successfully created using Visual Basic 6.0. With this system, it will facilitate the presentation of reports related to the processing of library book data at SMA Negeri 13 Samarinda.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the merit system and the quality of public services, with the work motivation of state civil apparatus (ASN) as a mediator, using a case study in the West Sumbawa Regency Government. The background of the study is based on the need to strengthen bureaucratic professionalism through recruitment, promotion, competency development, and talent management practices based on qualifications and performance, amidst implementation challenges at the regional level influenced by limited capacity and a patronage culture. The research aims to build an empirical understanding of the extent to which the merit system affects the quality of public services, both directly and indirectly, through increased work motivation. This study uses a quantitative cross-sectional approach with a Likert scale-based instrument to measure the dimensions of meritocracy, work motivation, and public service quality adapted from the SERVQUAL model. Data analysis was performed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), testing construct validity and reliability, as well as the significance of direct and indirect paths. The findings show that all merit components—from recruitment to talent management—significantly influence the formation of a strong merit system, with the greatest impact coming from competency development and talent management. The established merit system contributes positively to public service quality, reflected in the dimensions of reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles, with work motivation proven to partially mediate this relationship. These results affirm the importance of integrating merit-based HRM policies with strategies to strengthen ASN motivation as a continuous effort to improve service quality and public trust.

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a type of pure coconut oil produced without high-temperature heating or the use of chemicals. One crucial stage in VCO production is the separation and filtration of oil, water, and sediment. This research aims to design and evaluate an efficient separator and filter device for small to medium-scale VCO production. The machine applies gravitational and simple centrifugal forces, equipped with a multistage filter system using nylon cloth and filter paper. The results showed that the device achieved 92–95% separation efficiency within 25 minutes per 5 liters of raw material, with a final moisture content of 0.08%. This design can enhance productivity and maintain oil quality, making it suitable for household and small-scale industries.

Abstract

Intellectual Property (IP) Management at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) was previously hindered by manual processes using Google Forms and Excel that were inefficient and prone to errors, and by limited information systems. This research aims to evolve the ITK Intellectual Property Information System (SIM KI) to enhance data management efficiency at the backend and improve functionality and user experience at the frontend. The development methodology uses a structured Waterfall approach. The backend is developed with Node.js (Express) and PostgreSQL, while the frontend uses React JS with interface design based on Design Thinking. System verification is conducted comprehensively through Black Box Testing, White Box Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and the System Usability Scale (SUS). The evolution results show successful system implementation that now supports four types of IP (Copyright, Patent, Trademark, Industrial Design). Backend testing through unit testing validates the reliability of internal logic, while frontend testing demonstrates functional success (Black Box), good usability (SUS score 77.89), and significant user acceptance improvement (UAT score increased from 68% to 76%). The evolution of SIM KI successfully resulted in a more efficient, functional, and well-received digital platform, which implies increased effectiveness of IP management in the academic environment of ITK.

Abstract

This research aims to develop short story writing teaching materials based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Literacy skills are developed in various learning activities, one of which is writing, which can be linked to fictional stories in the form of short stories. This writing activity is related to the use of language in daily life, and the topics raised can be related to everyday experiences. Writing short stories requires a process of developing students' creativity. This process contains the concept that short story writing skills are not acquired instantly, but rather thru a step-by-step process with intensive and continuous practice, and requires students' active participation in the writing process. Writing short stories is not easy and can encounter obstacles such as developing ideas, describing the core of the story, setting, characters, plot development, and building dialog that fits the story and the characters being portrayed. One solution that can be implemented is providing teaching materials with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The presence of AI-assisted teaching materials in writing short stories can help someone develop the ideas they want to turn into a short story, the general outline of the story, characters, setting, events, and dialog. This can help someone develop short stories with more varied, creative narratives tailored to each individual's experiences. Thru this AI-based learning material, one can utilize it and elaborate it into a form of self-understanding description that will later be developed or can become points in a specific schema format. The short story writing teaching materials created based on this needs analysis will later be developed, validated, and field-tested on a limited scale.
