Abstract

The Indonesian government is trying to implement a learning process based on information and communication technology. However, there are still weaknesses in the use of the internet in the learning process among students. Therefore, this article aims to describe the activities of students during the implementation of hybrid learning in mathematics learning and find out the results of student learning in mathematics through the application of Hybrid Learning. The research method used in this article is a true experimental design with a research sample of SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru students, whose schools have easy internet access. To obtain primary data from the field, tests are used to measure student mathematics learning outcomes. After each data is collected and tabulated, the data will be analyzed using statistical parametric analysis with the t test using the help of SPSS Version 18.00. The results showed that there were differences in student learning outcomes between those studying with the Hybrid Cooperative Learning method and students learning with conventional methods in SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. The difference is confirmed again by the mean value of the experimental class 34.55 while the mean control class is 31.35. The results of this calculation indicate that the ability of the experimental class students is better than the control class students. This means that the value of the experimental class is better.

Abstract

This study seeks to analyse the awareness of the pre-service teachers on the counting methods, systems and tools used in the prehistoric method and the Ancient period and to examine the distribution of this awareness by gender. A total of 42 sophomore-level students studying at a university in the Western Black Sea region, Turkey, participated in this exploratory case study. The data were obtained through a form consisting of 6 questions, one of which is open-ended, after the 14-week course of history of mathematics. The data collection tool included questions on the counting methods used in the pre-historic period and the Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Roman, Babylonian, Ancient Greek and Mayan number systems. The data were analysed through descriptive analysis and content analysis. The findings indicated that the pre-service teachers most reported the methods of tallying, tying a knot, token, circular disc. Also, the question on the Ancient Egyptian number system was answered correctly by all pre-service teachers, the lowest performance was observed in the question on the Mayan number system. Analysis of the answers by gender revealed that the male pre-service teachers were more likely to give false answers compared to the female pre-service teachers.

Abstract

Scaffolding is defined as help that can assist students to solve problems or understand concepts that were not able to complete independently. In modern times, the concept of technology-based Scaffolding in learning has developed. In this study an educational game called "Telolet" was designed with the aim of providing Scaffolding to students who experienced difficulties in integers. The problems in this study consist of closed problems, opened problems  and some problems are related to integers. The purpose of this study is to provide students with a whole understanding in integers so that they can educate students with the right concepts. The results of this study, Scaffolding based on the game "Telolet" can help students who have difficulty in integer problems. Students excited to solve problems in this game because they felt challenged.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine whether there were significant differences between students 'reasoning abilities taught using the PBL model and with the Computer Multimedia Assisted GI, and to determine whether or not there was an influence of interaction between learning models and students' initial abilities on mathematical reasoning abilities . This research is a comparative research with treatment. The population in this study were students of MTs Al-Washliyah 28 Sergai. The variables in this study are mathematical reasoning abilities by collecting data using a questionnaire and tests of mathematical reasoning abilities as well as student achievement tests. The analysis prerequisite test uses the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test with a sig (2-tailed) value for the Computer Multimedia Assisted PBL class is 0.200*>0.005 and the sig (2-tailed) value for the computer multimedia-assisted GI class is 0.132>0.005. Hypothesis testing uses 2 path analysis of variance (Anova) with SPSS aids. The results showed that there were significant differences between students' reasoning abilities taught with the PBL and with the Computer Multimedia Assisted GI with a sig value of 0,000<0.05. And there is no effect of interaction between learning models and students' initial abilities on students reasoning abilities with a sig value of 0.175>0.05.

Abstract

The problem-solving ability is still a big problem for students. Many studies show that Indonesian students are still low in solving math problems. One thing that is needed in solving problems is self-resilience, so that students have resilience in facing problems. This study aims to analyze the differences in problem-solving abilities of pre-service elementary school teacher in terms of self-resilience. This study used a Quasi-Experiment method with the type Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group. The population of this study were all elementary school teacher candidates at Majalengka University with a sample of 60 respondent. This study resulted in a significant difference in the increase in problem-solving abilities of student-teacher candidates. Based on Self Resilience, the group of students who received Problem Based Learning had higher problem-solving abilities than the group of students who received expository learning. Mathematical problem-solving ability requires students to have self-resilience because in solving problems, a person needs to have confidence in his ability to face problems.

Abstract

This research is a correlational study that examines the relationship between cognitive style and habits of mind. The research subjects involved 4th semester students in the Department of Mathematics Education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training of UIN Suska Riau which consisted of students with heterogeneous academic abilities. Cognitive style data was collected using the GEFT question instrument with test techniques. Habits of mind data were collected using a questionnaire instrument with a questionnaire distribution technique. The data analysis technique begins with the Pearson Product Moment correlation test which is continued with the significance test and the calculation of the magnitude of the relationship that occurs using the coefficient of determination. Because the data is positively correlated, it continues with determining the linear regression equation. The results showed that there was a significant weak correlation between cognitive style and habits of mind with a relationship score of 6% and a linear regression equation y '= 36.35 + 0.31 x.

Abstract

The design of HOTS Ethnic-Mathematics is the stage that has been intended in this study. This type of research is research and development (Research and Development) by producing results in the form of Mathematics Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) questions based on culture and local wisdom (Ethnic-Math HOTS). The development model referred to by the researcher is the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) which is adapted into Analysis, Design, and Development (ADD). The conclusion of this paper is Mathematical problem designs that are integrated with local culture and local wisdom can be developed into questions that have a function to measure students' high-level abilities. High-level abilities that can be measured using these questions are analytical skills, evaluation skills and creative abilities. By completing questions related to the culture in the area around students, students will be more challenged and motivated to do it. In addition, it will increase students' knowledge about the local culture in the area.

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the mathematical justification studies in mathematics education between 2007 and 2016. In the study, 31 theses and articles about mathematical justification in mathematics education were analyzed by means of determined databases. In the literature review, the studies were classified according to the method, the study group, the mathematics subject, and the time frame of ten years. As a result of study, mathematical justification studies in mathematics education were carried out mostly in 2009, 2010 and 2016. As a study group, examined studies are composed mostly of students. As a method, qualitative method was used mostly. The tasks related to justification at three different levels of education were included. According to primary, middle and high school levels, the most common areas of learning for which mathematical justification tasks take place are numbers and operations, algebra and numbers and algebra, respectively.

Abstract

One of the important affective factors for students in mathematics learning is self-efficacy. The students should have high mathematics self-efficacy. So, it can support the success of learning process. The facts that indicated the low of students’ mathematics self-efficacy, encouraging the efforts to improve self-efficacy through the improvement of the learning process. One of them is by applying the problem based learning approach. This research was a classroom action research by applying problem based learning approach to improve students’ mathematics self-efficacy. The classroom action research was done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The findings of this research revealed that the problem based learning approach could improve student’s mathematics self-efficacy. At the end of the first cycle, the students’ mathematics self-efficacy was still in the medium category and increased at the end of the second cycle, which students’ mathematics self-efficacy has been in high category.

Abstract

Every student must have and develop spatial abilities to be successfull in learning geometry. The rapid development of technology also allows teachers to use macromedia flash as an alternative in developing and improving students' spatial abilities. This study aimed to determine and describe the improvement of the students' spatial ability after getting geometry material by using macromedia flash at MTsN Model Banda Aceh. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design and one group pretest posttest design. The population of this study was all students of class VIII MTsN Model Banda Aceh with random sampling as the sample selection techniques so that the selected sample was the students of class VIII-5. The data collection in this study was carried out using a spatial ability test consisted of pretest and posttest questions. The gained data were analyzed with SPSS version 17 with paired sample t-test and percentage. The results showed that there was an improvement in students' spatial ability after having geometry material learning by using macromedia flash at MTsN Model Banda Aceh. Besides, the improvement of students' spatial ability based on indicator of perception spatial was 61.1%, mental rotation indicator was 55.6%, and indicator of  visualization spatial was 66.7%.
