Abstract

Verbal violence among students is a serious psychosocial problem in schools because it may disrupt interpersonal relationships, emotional development, and students’ psychological well-being. Although verbal aggression is often perceived as ordinary teasing or joking, repeated exposure may lead to anxiety, fear, decreased self-confidence, and social withdrawal among victims. This study aimed to describe the forms of verbal violence, its contributing factors, its psychological impact on victims, and the efforts made to address it through guidance and counseling services at MAN 2 Bulukumba. A qualitative approach with a clinical case study design was employed. The participants consisted of MF as the perpetrator, AR as the victim, the school counselor, parents, and peers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that MF’s verbal violence appeared in the form of harsh words, ridicule, insults, and emotionally uncontrolled speech that had developed into a habitual behavior. The contributing factors included poor emotional regulation, impulsivity, limited parental supervision, and a peer environment that tolerated harsh language. The impact on the victim included reduced self-confidence, anxiety, fear, and social withdrawal. The handling process involved guidance and counseling services based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), role playing, and collaboration with parents and school stakeholders. These findings highlight the importance of structured, collaborative, and sustainable counseling interventions in preventing and addressing verbal violence in schools. The study provides practical implications for school counselors in developing socio-emotional guidance programs, strengthening emotional regulation, and fostering a respectful, empathetic, safe, and inclusive school communication culture.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of cognitive flexibility as a protective factor against suicidal ideation among final-year undergraduate students in Central Java. Grounded in the Fluid Vulnerability Theory and the Suicidal Mode framework, this research examines how internal cognitive mechanisms regulate the activation of suicide-related affective systems under academic stress. A correlational quantitative design was employed, involving 252 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) and the Revised Suicide Ideation Scale (R-SIS), both of which demonstrated strong psychometric properties. Linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between cognitive flexibility and suicidal ideation (β = -0.179, p < .01), indicating that the higher cognitive flexibility predicts lower levels of suicidal thoughts. Furthermore, cognitive flexibility significantly reduced both covert (passive desire) and overt (active planning) dimensions of suicidal ideation. These findings highlight cognitive flexibility as a transdiagnostic protective mechanism that disrupts the activation of suicidal mode by enabling adaptive cognitive reappraisal and alternative problem-solving strategies. The study contributes to the literature by shifting the focus from external stressors to internal cognitive processes, offering implications for preventive interventions in higher education settings.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into e-counseling services to support adolescent mental health. However, the effectiveness and challenges of AI implementation in this context have not yet been systematically mapped. This study aims to analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence in e-counseling services for adolescent mental health. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach following the PRISMA guidelines. Article searches were conducted in the Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Springer, PubMed, and ResearchGate databases. The findings indicate that AI-based chatbots, ChatGPT, and digital counseling platforms are capable of: (1) increasing the accessibility of counseling services, (2) providing initial psychological support, (3) assisting in the management of anxiety and stress, and (4) improving users' psychological well-being. AI is also considered to offer flexibility and comfort in the digital counseling process. Despite these benefits, the use of AI in e-counseling still faces challenges such as limited empathy, communication errors, AI hallucination, as well as ethical and data privacy issues. Therefore, AI should be positioned as a supporting tool for counseling services, not as a replacement for human counselors. Further research is needed to develop ethical protocols for AI use in adolescent counseling services.

Abstract

Sexual violence against adolescents leads to severe psychological consequences, particularly anxiety disorders that impair development and social functioning. This study examined the effectiveness of self-healing intervention through relaxation techniques in reducing anxiety among adolescent survivors of sexual abuse in Munggu, Central Bangka. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Seven participants were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Anxiety levels were measured by the anxiety subscale of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21) before and after four sessions of relaxation training (diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was used for data analysis. Results revealed a decrease in anxiety scores in six out of seven participants, but the difference was not statistically significant (Z = -1.859, p = .063). Despite non-significance, four participants shifted from severe to moderate anxiety categories. Qualitative findings corroborated that relaxation techniques assisted survivors in managing acute daily anxiety. The findings indicate that short-term self-healing intervention alone is insufficient to significantly alleviate trauma-based anxiety but holds promise as an adjunctive coping skill. Future research with longer intervention duration, larger sample, and control group is strongly recommended.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the application of the thought-stopping technique can alleviate students' nervousness when speaking in front of the class at SMK Negeri 4 Takalar. Employing a quantitative experimental approach, this research utilized a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 31 students diagnosed with classroom speaking anxiety. A sample of 20 students was selected and divided into two groups of 10: an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected by measuring students' anxiety levels in front of the class both before and after the intervention. The data were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically the independent samples t-test. The results indicated that prior to the intervention, speaking anxiety levels ranged from moderate to high. Following the thought-stopping therapy, the experimental group exhibited a significant reduction in anxiety levels compared to the control group, which received no intervention. The thought-stopping technique comprises five steps: (1) the counselor and client collaboratively identify and select the target thought to be addressed; (2) the client closes their eyes and visualizes a scenario in which the target thought is likely to occur; (3) the target thought is interrupted by a verbal "stop" command; (4) the negative thought is replaced with a more positive alternative; and (5) homework assignments and follow-up sessions are provided. The independent samples t-test revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, yielding a t-value of 7.639 and a significance level of p < 0.001 (two-tailed). These findings indicate that the implementation of the thought-stopping technique effectively reduces the level of nervousness among students at SMK Negeri 4 Takalar when speaking in front of the class.

Abstract

Several tenth-grade students at State Senior High School 12 Banjarmasin still demonstrated suboptimal self-acceptance, as reflected in their lack of confidence in expressing their opinions, feelings of embarrassment when expressing themselves, and difficulty accepting their own strengths and weaknesses. These conditions indicate the need for guidance and counseling services that promote students’ active participation through interactive learning media. This study aimed to describe the use of the KonselOpoly Quest game as a medium in guidance and counseling services to support students’ self-actualization, particularly in the aspect of self-acceptance, at State Senior High School 12 Banjarmasin. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The participants consisted of one guidance and counseling teacher, one vice principal, and two tenth-grade students at State Senior High School 12 Banjarmasin. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings showed that the use of the KonselOpoly Quest game encouraged students’ active participation during the guidance and counseling sessions. Based on the interview and observation results, students demonstrated greater confidence in expressing their opinions, began to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and showed greater respect for their peers. These findings indicate that the KonselOpoly Quest game has the potential to support the implementation of guidance and counseling services by facilitating the development of students’ self-acceptance as one aspect of self-actualization.

Abstract

Adolescents living in pesantren environments face various developmental challenges, including adaptation to boarding school life, academic demands, social adjustment, emotional regulation, and the internalization of religious values. In this context, resilience is an essential psychological capacity that enables adolescents to cope with difficulties, adapt positively, and maintain personal functioning under pressure. Self-acceptance is considered an important psychological factor that may strengthen resilience by helping adolescents recognize, evaluate, and accept their personal strengths and limitations. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-acceptance and resilience among adolescents at Pesantren Al Kautsar Al Akbar Medan. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 100 adolescents selected using disproportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a Self-Acceptance Scale consisting of 47 items and a Resilience Scale consisting of 25 items. The reliability of the instruments was examined using Cronbach’s alpha, yielding coefficients of 0.934 for the Self-Acceptance Scale and 0.857 for the Resilience Scale. Data were analyzed using Pearson product–moment correlation. The results showed a significant positive relationship between self-acceptance and resilience (r = 0.666, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that adolescents with higher levels of self-acceptance tend to demonstrate stronger resilience. The analysis also revealed that self-acceptance contributed 44.3% to resilience, while the remaining 55.7% was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study. This study highlights the importance of strengthening self-acceptance as part of psychological development and guidance programs in pesantren settings to support adolescents’ resilience, emotional adjustment, and adaptive functioning.

Abstract

Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) has become increasingly relevant in the workplace because digital connectivity exposes employees to continuous streams of social and occupational information. Although prior studies generally report that FOMO is associated with lower subjective well-being, evidence in employee populations remains limited, particularly in local industrial contexts. This study aimed to examine the relationship between FOMO and subjective well-being among employees in Semarang Regency. A quantitative correlational design was applied. The participants were 373 employees aged 19-30 years who used social media for at least two hours per day, selected using purposive sampling supported by snowball sampling. FOMO was measured using the Indonesian adaptation of the FOMO scale developed from Mazlum and Atalay's framework, while subjective well-being was measured through the Satisfaction with Life Scale and Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, normality and linearity tests, and Spearman's rho correlation because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that most participants had moderate FOMO and high subjective well-being. The correlation test indicated a positive and significant relationship between FOMO and subjective well-being (r = 0.105; p = 0.042), although the effect size was very weak and contrary to the initial hypothesis. These findings suggest that FOMO does not necessarily reduce employees' well-being; in certain contexts, it may function as a mild social awareness signal that encourages connection, information seeking, and adaptive engagement. The study contributes to the literature by highlighting a context-specific and non-linear interpretation of FOMO in working adults. Practical implications include the need for workplace well-being programs, digital self-regulation training, and organizational support to prevent FOMO from developing into maladaptive anxiety.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is an important educational and public health concern, as this developmental stage involves complex physical, emotional, social, and psychological changes that may increase vulnerability to mental health problems. Mental health literacy is therefore essential to help students recognize psychological difficulties, reduce stigma, and apply appropriate coping strategies. This study aimed to examine the effect of mental health psychoeducation combined with relaxation training on mental health literacy among high school students in Gresik, Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants consisted of 54 high school students who completed all stages of the study, including screening, pre-test, intervention, and post-test. Initial mental health screening was conducted using the Mental Health Continuum–Short Form (MHC-SF), while mental health literacy was measured using the Mental Health Knowledge Questionnaire (MHKQ). The intervention consisted of psychoeducation on mental health, stress, and coping strategies, followed by simple deep-breathing relaxation exercises. The screening results showed that students were distributed across flourishing, moderate, and languishing categories, indicating varied levels of mental well-being. The results further indicated a modest increase in mental health literacy scores from pre-test (M = 13.31) to post-test (M = 13.94), accompanied by a positive shift in literacy categories, marked by a decrease in the low category and an increase in the good category. These findings suggest that psychoeducation combined with relaxation training can support the improvement of students’ mental health literacy, although the magnitude of change remains moderate. This study provides practical implications for schools in developing simple, applicable, and promotive mental health programs to strengthen students’ understanding of mental health and adaptive coping.
