Abstract

Traffic congestion can lead to various negative consequences for individuals. One of the most disruptive consequences for workers is stress at work. This study aims to examine the relationship between road traffic congestion and stress at work, with perceived organizational support and perceived supervisor support as moderators. A quantitative method with an online survey was conducted on 213 workers in Indonesia who experience traffic congestion while commuting to work or from work. Data analysis was performed using Hayes’s PROCESS macro in IBM SPSS Statistics version 26 with model 2 for moderated regression analysis. The result indicates that road traffic congestion significantly affects stress at work (ß = 0.63, p <0.05, CI = [0.48, 0.78]). However, perceived organizational support was not significant in the role of moderator between road traffic congestion and stress at work (-0.12, 95% CI = [-0.29, 0.05]). In addition, perceived supervisor support did not play a role as a moderator between road traffic congestion and stress at work (0.09, 95% CI = [-0.13, 0.31]). These findings demonstrate that the negative consequences of road traffic congestion are very substantial that their impact on stress at work does not diminish even though workers have perceived organizational and supervisor support.

Abstract

Digital hoarding has become an increasingly relevant psychological phenomenon in the digital era, particularly among Generation Z, who are highly engaged with digital devices and online storage. The tendency to accumulate digital files may be influenced by emotional attachment to personal digital objects such as photos, videos, documents, messages, and other meaningful files. This study aimed to examine the effect of emotional attachment on digital hoarding behavior among Generation Z. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed. The participants consisted of 255 Generation Z respondents selected using purposive sampling based on their active use of digital devices and habit of storing digital files. Data were collected using the Digital Hoarding Questionnaire (DHQ) to measure digital hoarding behavior and the Emotional Attachment Scale (EAS) to assess emotional attachment. Both instruments demonstrated satisfactory reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.802 for the DHQ and 0.858 for the EAS. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression after the assumptions of normality and linearity were fulfilled. The results showed that emotional attachment had a significant effect on digital hoarding behavior (F = 215.6, p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination indicated that emotional attachment contributed 46% to digital hoarding behavior (R² = 0.460), while the remaining 54% was influenced by other factors outside this study. Additional gender-based analysis showed that male respondents had slightly higher mean scores for both emotional attachment and digital hoarding than female respondents, although the difference was not significant. These findings indicate that emotional attachment is an important psychological factor underlying digital hoarding among Generation Z. The study provides practical implications for digital well-being education, particularly in encouraging digital decluttering, file organization, and healthier emotional regulation toward digital possessions.

Abstract

The intensive use of social media among Generation Z adolescents has created new psychosocial challenges, particularly in relation to social comparison, self-presentation, and anxiety in social interaction. Social anxiety may be influenced by internal psychological factors such as self-esteem and relational factors such as parental attachment. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-esteem and parental attachment with social anxiety among Generation Z adolescents who actively use social media. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 48 adolescents aged 17–27 years who had passed the data cleaning process and used social media regularly. Data were collected through online Likert-scale questionnaires measuring social anxiety, self-esteem, and parental attachment. The instruments demonstrated strong internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.956 for the Social Anxiety Scale, 0.920 for the Self-Esteem Scale, and 0.928 for the Parental Attachment Scale. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and product–moment correlation after the assumptions of normality and linearity were fulfilled. The results showed that self-esteem and parental attachment were simultaneously and significantly related to social anxiety (R = 0.433; R² = 0.187; F = 5.191; p = 0.009), explaining 18.7% of the variance in social anxiety. Partial analysis also indicated significant relationships between self-esteem and social anxiety (r = 0.354; p = 0.007) and between parental attachment and social anxiety (r = 0.381; p = 0.004). These findings suggest that self-esteem and parental attachment are important psychosocial factors associated with social anxiety among Generation Z adolescents in the context of social media use. This study provides practical implications for school counselors, parents, and mental health practitioners in developing preventive programs that strengthen self-esteem, improve parent–adolescent relationships, and reduce social anxiety in the digital era.

Abstract

Turnover intention among Generation Z employees has become an increasingly critical phenomenon, especially given the fast-paced work dynamics and high job demands in startup companies. This study aims to examine the role of quality of work life in influencing turnover intention among Generation Z employees in Indonesian startups. Employing a quantitative correlational associative design, the research involved 335 participants selected through purposive sampling. Participants were employees aged 18–28 years, working in startups in Indonesia with a minimum tenure of six months. Data were collected using the Quality of Working Life (QWL) Scale and the Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression with JAMOVI 2.3.28 software. The findings indicate that quality of work life significantly affects turnover intention among Generation Z employees in startups. Among the dimensions assessed, competency development scored the highest mean, while work and non-work life balance scored the lowest. Although the contribution of quality of work life to turnover intention was moderate (R² = 0.139), these results highlight the important role of quality of work life in reducing turnover intention in this demographic and context. Practically, startup companies are advised to focus on enhancing aspects of quality of work life, particularly work and non-work life balance, as a strategic measure to mitigate turnover intention among Generation Z employees.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical transitional phase that is vulnerable to various psychological dynamics. One intervention that has emerged to support adolescent mental health is psychoeducation. This study aims to review the effectiveness of psychoeducation services in addressing various psychological issues among adolescents using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Following the Kitchenham protocol, the literature selection process was conducted in the Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar databases covering the period from 2016 to 2026. A total of 13 selected articles were analyzed based on the type of psychological issue, target population, mode of implementation, and success rate. The results indicate that psychoeducation is effective in reducing post-traumatic symptoms, addressing alexithymia, managing psychosomatic disorders, and preventing suicidal ideation. The success of the intervention is driven by improvements in participants’ adaptive coping skills and self-awareness. Implementation through school-based programs and digital platforms yielded positive results in improving service accessibility. The study’s conclusions affirm that psychoeducation is an essential preventive and curative strategy for maintaining the psychological well-being of adolescents in the modern era.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an essential determinant of students’ academic achievement and is strongly influenced by the family environment, particularly parenting styles. This study aimed to examine the influence of parenting styles on the learning motivation of eleventh-grade students at SMA Methodist-2 Medan. A quantitative research approach was employed involving 215 students selected from a population of 525 students using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis after fulfilling statistical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests. The results indicated that parenting styles had a significant effect on students’ learning motivation, as evidenced by an F value of 9.798 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The findings further revealed that parenting styles contributed 10.4% to students’ learning motivation, as reflected in the Adjusted R Square value of 0.104, while the remaining 89.6% was influenced by other variables outside the scope of this study. Partial analysis showed that democratic parenting had a positive and significant effect on learning motivation (p = 0.027), authoritarian parenting also demonstrated a positive and significant effect (p = 0.022), and permissive parenting had the strongest positive influence (p = 0.011). These findings indicate that each parenting style may contribute differently to students’ learning motivation when applied in supportive family contexts. The study highlights the importance of parental involvement, emotional support, and balanced communication in fostering students’ motivation to learn. Practically, the results provide valuable insights for parents and schools in developing strategies to strengthen students’ academic motivation and engagement.

Abstract

The transition from university to the professional world often triggers profound anxiety among final-year students, a phenomenon commonly known as the quarter-life crisis (QLC). This condition is frequently exacerbated by individual economic uncertainty. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial stress on the quarter-life crisis among final-year students at Universitas Negeri Semarang. Beyond academic pressures, contemporary final-year students grapple with economic realities that subtly erode their psychological stability as they prepare for societal integration. The study employed a quantitative approach with a causal-associative design. It involved 394 respondents aged 18 to 25 years (enrolled in semesters 7 to 13), selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments consisted of a highly reliable adapted financial stress scale (α = 0.97) and a quarter-life crisis scale (α = 0.926), both utilizing a 4-point Likert scale. Data were collected online and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results revealed a significant positive influence of financial stress on the quarter-life crisis (r = 0.703; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that financial stress significantly contributes to the heightened intensity of existential crises; the higher the perceived economic pressure, the greater the students' vulnerability to future uncertainty and identity crises. A distinguishing feature of this study is the finding that financial stress acts as a primary catalyst for "career paralysis," wherein economic burdens not only induce distress but actively hinder students' capacity to make long-term life decisions. From a practical standpoint, these findings are expected to serve as a foundation for university policies to establish comprehensive support systems, including psychological counseling and financial management education, to mitigate the negative impacts of post-university transitions.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and social media has reshaped how Generation Z constructs identity, including religious identity. During emerging adulthood, individuals often face social pressure, future uncertainty, and intensive identity exploration, which may trigger a quarter-life crisis characterized by anxiety, confusion, and emotional instability. In this condition, some individuals engage in spiritual exploration and may consider religious conversion as a way to seek meaning, certainty, and psychological stability. This study aimed to examine the relationship between quarter-life crisis and religious conversion intention among Generation Z social media users, as well as the moderating role of religiosity in this relationship. A quantitative survey design was employed using purposive sampling. The participants consisted of social media users aged 18–29 years. Data were analyzed using regression and moderation analysis. The findings indicated that quarter-life crisis did not have a significant direct effect on religious conversion intention. However, religiosity had a positive and significant effect and moderated the relationship between quarter-life crisis and conversion intention. Specifically, religiosity weakened the association between psychological crisis and the tendency to consider religious conversion, suggesting its role as a protective factor in maintaining religious identity stability under psychological pressure. These findings imply that religious commitment may help Generation Z manage identity uncertainty and emotional instability in the digital era. This study contributes to the literature on emerging adulthood, religious identity, and social media by highlighting the psychological and spiritual mechanisms underlying religious conversion intention. Practically, the findings underscore the importance of strengthening religious guidance, digital literacy, and psychosocial support for young adults experiencing identity-related crises.

Abstract

Intensive social media use among university students has emerged as a global phenomenon closely correlated with declining psychological well-being and academic behavioral dysfunction. This study empirically examines the effect of social media use on depression levels and its subsequent impact on academic procrastination, positioning depression as a mediating variable. Adopting a quantitative explanatory design, the study sampled 58 undergraduate students from the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education Department at Mulawarman University who were completing their final projects. Data were collected using three standardized instruments: the Social Media Use Integration Scale (SMUIS), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students (PASS). Statistical analyses included validity, reliability, normality testing, multiple regression, and a mediation model based on the Baron & Kenny approach. Results indicated that social media use significantly predicted higher depression symptoms (b = 0.397, p < 0.001). Furthermore, depression fully mediated the relationship between social media use and academic procrastination (b = -0.103, p < 0.001), accounting for 78.9% of the variance in final-project delay behaviors. These findings confirm that digital platform engagement not only affects emotional well-being but also activates cognitive-affective mechanisms that drive academic task avoidance. Theoretical and practical implications are comprehensively discussed, including recommendations for cognitive-behavioral counseling interventions and digital literacy regulation within higher education settings.

Abstract

Father involvement is an important factor in an individual’s psychological development, including the formation of adult attachment patterns. Emerging adulthood is a transitional phase from adolescence to adulthood characterized by identity exploration, increasing independence, and the development of more intimate interpersonal relationships. Adult attachment patterns formed during this phase play a significant role in determining the quality of an individual’s future relationships. This study aims to examine differences in adult attachment based on father involvement among emerging adults. The study involved 298 respondents. Data were collected using the Father Involvement Scale and the Adult Attachment Scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Kruskal–Wallis test. The results showed significant differences in adult attachment based on father involvement, with a Kruskal–Wallis value of 47.016 and a significance level of p = 0.001. The highest mean rank was found in secure attachment, followed by preoccupied, dismissing, and fearful attachment. These findings highlight the importance of father involvement in fostering adaptive adult attachment patterns among emerging adults.
