Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine whether Clostridium botulinum bacteria were present in used cooking oil, and to look at the characteristics of Clostridium botulinum bacteria in used cooking oil. In this study, isolation of bacteria from used cooking oil using blood agar media, identification of bacteria using gram staining and biochemical tests such as gelatin test, triple sugar iron agar (TSIA) test, simon citrate test, and motility test were carried out. The results of the study obtained 2 out of 3 samples containing Clostridium botulinum bacteria. These bacteria are more common in used cooking oil, which has a more blackish brown color, lots of crumbs left over from food, and temperatures around 30-55℃. In conclusion, there is Clostridium botulinum bacteria found in used cooking oil. Clostridium botulinum colonies are grey, alpha hemolytic, circular to irregular in shape with scalloped edges or rhizoids, and flat to raised surfaces. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the types of lichens, thallus types, and diversity index of lichens found in Resort 6 of Batang Gadis National Park. The method used in this study is an exploratory survey method with a squared plot technique using purposive sampling. The results of the study, there are 25 types of lichens from 13 families. The most commonly found family is the Parmeliaceae family and the most commonly found species is Lepraria sp. There are three types of thallus found in lichens, namely crustose, foliose, and fruticose types. There are 14 types of crustose-shaped lichens, 10 types of foliose shaped like leaves, and 1 type of fruticose shaped like dangling ribbons. The lichenes diversity index value is 2.96. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the diversity of lichens shows moderate diversity with a moderate distribution of individuals of each type. This also shows that the Batang Girls Resort 6 National Park area still has good air quality. Keywords: Diversity, Lichens (lichenes), Batang Gadis National Park

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there are Coliform bacteria contained in residents' well water in Tanjung Selamat Village, Medan Tuntungan District. In this study, physical tests were carried out on samples using sensory devices, chemical tests using pH paper, and bacterial identification using the MPN test which included a prediction test using Lactose Borth media, a confirmation test using Brilliant Green Lactose Borth (BGLB) media, and a certainty test. using eosin methylene blue (EMB) media. The results of the physical test obtained 1 sample and the chemical test obtained 3 samples that met the requirements for clean water health. Meanwhile, from the MPN test, the MPN value was obtained for sample 1: 43/100 ml of water, sample 2: >2400/100 ml of water, sample 3: 60.06/100 ml of water. The difference in the number of MPN values found in the samples indicates that the samples have different levels of contamination and pollution levels. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that of the three water samples taken from residents' well water in Tanjung Selamat Village, Medan District, Tuntungan was positive for Coliform bacteria. Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to identify the kinds of phytoplankton that can be found in the Aek Buru River's waters and to gauge the quality of the river's water. Purposive sampling, a sampling approach that considers specific data sources, is the sampling methodology employed. At surface water depths of 0 to 1.5 meters, water samples were taken. According to the study's findings, there are 4 classes and 15 different types of phytoplankton in the diversity of species collected. The conclusion of this study is the diversity of phytoplankton obtained (Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae and Chrysophyceae). The quality of river water is classified as moderately polluted waters. Key words: Phytoplankton, Water Quality, Aek Buru River

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the presence of second-order metabolites and the antibacterial and antifungal activities against S. aureus and E. coli in an experimental manner. This study is being conducted using an experimental method. Metabolit is quickly identified by scrining fitokimia. Antioxidant activity was measured using the DPPH method. Antibacterial activity is carried out using the cakram diffusion method. Ekstraksi was carried out by the 96% etanol-maseration process. The results show that the extracted etanol adas pagar contains flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin, saponin, and terpenoid content. Ekstrak etanol adas pagar has strong anti-oxidant activity with an IC50 of 80,56 ppm. Due to its antibacterial potential, ekstrak etanol adas pagar can kill gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus as well as gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria when applied in concentrations of 100% and 50%, respectively. The main finding of this study is that ekstrak etanol adas pagar can be used as a safe antibacterial and antifungal against the growth of S. aureus and E. coli. Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity of microalgae in the waters of the Barumun River as basic data. This study conducted a survey on the diversity of microalgae in the waters of the Barumun River which is located in Panai Hulu Regency, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province from October to December 2022. The method used is exploration. Determination of the sampling was carried out by systematic purposive sampling. Sampling was carried out through three points, namely the upstream, middle and downstream of the Barumun River. This study found 47 species of microalgae belonging to 42 genera and 27 orders, members of Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyceae as the most abundant microalgae. At point 1 found 36 species, while at point 2 found 30 species, and at point 3 as many as 22 species. The physicochemical factors of the Barumun River waters were also measured, the average water temperature was 27 RAM C, the average pH was 6.7, and the average water brightness was 57 cm. This study concluded that environmental factors greatly affect the diversity of microalgae in the Barumun River waters. Keywords: Diversity, Microalgae, Barumun River

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to analyze the study of the effects of multistrain probiotics on clinical parameters in diabetes mellitus to determine the condition of blood glucose and HbA1c so as to trigger inflammation. The research method uses a systematic review with the online scientific database Google Scholar, PubMed, Researchgate according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of this systematic review showed that 13 articles that had been extracted discussed the effects of giving probiotics as an alternative secondary treatment for complications of diabetes mellitus and 5 articles that were in accordance with the research objectives. From the results of a systematic review, it was concluded that probiotic treatment can reduce the level of resistance to HbA1c, GDP, GD2P and inflammatory mediator parts of diabetes mellitus. Abstract

This study aims to determine the variable emergence of side effects of pressure on students globally due to distance traveled during the Coronavirus pandemic. The method used is literature (meta-analysis) by reviewing articles that discuss indications of stress (stress) in college students globally. The results showed that the emergence of symptoms of pressure on students was caused by distance and piling up of coursework, learning environment, noise, limited understanding of the material obtained, limited knowledge, piled up homework, not having the option to meet friends and family including schoolmates, forced internet networks, inefficient web standards, no proper class plans, unstable internet networks, relatively expensive data costs and fatigue experienced during distance learning. As a result, students experience stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. In conclusion, students globally experience stress due to several factors arising from distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Keywords: COVID-19, Symptoms of stress, Distance learning
