Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Jatropha plant in accumulating metal contaminants in the form of lead (Pb) in coal solvent. The method used is descriptive quantitative analysis method. The results showed that the metal content of lead (Pb) in the soil before and after treatment changed from 25.8904 mg/kg to 14.3991 mg/kg. In conclusion, Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas) is able to accumulate the presence of metal contaminants in the form of lead (Pb) because the metal concentration in the soil decreases after the acclimatization period, so this plant species is very suitable to be used as a phytoremediation effort to reduce contaminants in heavy metal polluted soil. Abstract

This study aims to determine the results of organoleptic tests and public acceptance of Sungkai leaf instant tea drinks with variations of natural sweeteners. The method used is an experimental method in the laboratory. Through this method, researchers obtained data by carrying out experiments directly at the Biology Education Laboratory, PGRI Silampari University. Then, organoleptic tests were carried out which included color, taste, aroma, and acceptability to 20 panelists. The highest average value of the color level organoleptic test is P2 (rock sugar) with a value of 3.4 (light green color). The highest average value of the aroma level organoleptic test was P0 (without sugar) with a value of 2.1 lacking Langu Sungkai. The highest average score for the organoleptic test for taste is P0 (no sugar) with a score of 3.7 (less sweet). While the highest average value of the organoleptic test for acceptability is P2 (rock sugar) with a value of 3.2 (likes). It can be concluded that people prefer sungkai tea with the addition of natural sweeteners than without sugar in terms of color, aroma, taste and acceptability. Abstract

Traditional medicinal plants are ingredients or natural ingredients derived from plants that have been used for generations for treatment based on experience. The use of plants as medicine has been around for a long time. Knowledge of medicinal plants is a national heritage based on experiences that have been passed down from generation to generation. Inheritance of knowledge about traditional medicine from generation to generation in society is the cause of the extinction of this knowledge. The knowledge possessed by traditional communities in the village is rarely written down, mostly only known by those who are old. Meanwhile, the younger generation, especially those who have integrated into modern life, rarely care about the knowledge that society has. This study aims to collect information from the public regarding the use of plant organs as traditional medicine in Wukirsari Village, Tugumulyo District, Musi Rawas Regency. This research is a descriptive study using interviews, observation, and literature studies. From the research results, it was found that the types of plants that have been used as medicinal plants in Wukirsari village, Tugumulyo district, Musirawas district totaled 17 species from 13 families and the parts of the plants used were 46.6% leaves, 26.6% rhizomes, 16.6% fruit, and 10% bark/stem. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of river water and the water quality status of the Marbau watershed in North Labuhanbatu Regency based on water quality criteria and to formulate a pollution control strategy that needs to be implemented. The method used is a quantitative descriptive method by analyzing the status of river water quality based on the pollution index. The results showed that the P1 value of Marbau river water ranged from 0.94 to 1.82. The recommended pollution control strategies are: 1) maintaining river protection zones involving environmental cadres and green communities in monitoring; 2) monitoring and controlling water pollution along the river; 3) improve river water quality monitoring; 5) supervision of the discharge of waste water into rivers; 4) granting permits for disposal of wastewater (IPLC) into rivers must pay attention to the condition of the capacity to accommodate river pollution loads and enforce environmental law against business actors who violate established environmental quality standards. In conclusion, the quality of the Marbau river has decreased with the water quality status being slightly polluted. The recommendations for water pollution control strategies that need to be implemented are progressive strategies. Keywords: Water Quality, North Labuhanbatu, Marbau

Abstract

The aim of this study was to observe the use of blue light on phytochemical changes during cauliflower (Brassica oleraceae L., var. botrytis) germination and the correlation between the parameters measured. The treatment was in the form of giving blue light and dark conditions as a control. Measurement of phytochemical compounds including ascorbic acid, glucosinolates, isothiocyanates and myrosinase enzymes was carried out every day for 5 days of germination. This research method is experimental research. Data obtained from measurements for all parameters are presented in the form of mean ± standard error. Furthermore, all data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). To determine differences between groups, Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) was used at the 95% confidence level. All data analysis used SPSS software version 24.0 (IBM, Chicago, IL, USA). In addition, the measurement of the correlation between parameters is carried out using the Pearson rank correlation coefficient. The results showed that blue light treatment significantly increased all measured phytochemical parameters. A significant positive correlation occurred between myrosinase activity and isothiocyanate formation. The glucosinolate content of cauliflower sprouts remained high during observations in the blue light treatment compared to the dark conditions. Blue light induces isothiocyanate formation and higher myrosinase activity when compared to dark conditions. The conclusion from this study is that blue light significantly increases the phytochemical changes of cauliflower sprouts. Abstract

Ethnozoology is the study of the relationship between humans and animals. Ethnozoological studies are closely related to culture and local knowledge and their interactions with the surrounding environment. The Sumba people with the marapu belief are known to have close relationships with various types of animals. This study aims to identify the types of animals used by the people of three villages in Sumba. The results showed that 23 species of animals were identified as part of the ethnozoology of the three villages. Species of animals related to ethnozoology can refer to several species scientifically. The forms of utilization by the community are as part of traditional and religious rituals (five species), traditional medicine (five species), consumption (six species), artistic values (seven species), and mystical values and omens (seven species). Ethnozology in Sumba society is closely related to Marapu beliefs. Keywords: Etnozoology, Marapu, traditional rituals, Sumba

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the type, composition and density of mesodebris based on seasonal differences (periods I and II). Sampling was conducted using the purposive sampling method. There were 5 lanes of transects randomised to determine the sub-transect box. Mesodebris samples were taken by excavating surface sediments (± 3 cm) and filtered with 0.5 cm x 0.5 cm size at Lamaru beach, Balikpapan City. All samples were collected, grouped and counted to determine the type, number, weight and density of mesodebris. The analysis results showed that 6 types of mesodebris were found in the study site such as plastic, plastic foam, glass, cloth, wood and rubber. The highest mesodebris composition for the number category was plastic (80%) in period II, while the highest weight composition was found in period I at 51%. The density of mesodebris with the most number category was found in period II (1.64 amount/m2). From the results of the study it can be concluded that there was no significant difference in the mesodebris density between periods I and II at Lamaru Tourism Beach, Balikpapan City. The main sources of mesodebris in the study area come from tourist activities, local residents' activities on land, and water runoff from the Manggar River.
