Abstract

This study aims to examine how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are presented in science textbooks used by seventh-grade junior high school students in Medan. The method employed was content analysis of two science textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Yudhistira. The study focused on six SDG targets: Goals 2, 3, 6, 13, 14, and 15. The results show that the presentation of SDGs in the textbooks varies in clarity, quantity, quality, and context. Environmental aspects (SDGs 13, 14, and 15) appear more frequently than social and economic aspects (SDGs 2, 3, and 6), which tend to appear indirectly. Overall, the integration of SDGs in the textbooks does not fully reflect the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), as the content primarily emphasizes cognitive components rather than practical skills, attitudes, and actions. These findings  highlight  the importance  of  science textbooks in supporting sustainable education through curriculum updates, enhancement of ESD competencies, and the development of evaluation systems aligned with SDG achievement. Abstract

This study aims to isolate, characterize, evaluate antibacterial activity, and identify Actinomycetes isolates at the molecular level. The method used was an experimental approach with a descriptive design. The research consisted of several stages: (1) isolation and characterization through macroscopic, microscopic, and biochemical tests, and (2) antibacterial activity testing and molecular identification of Actinomycetes isolates. The results showed that five isolates—DP1, DP2, DP3, DP4, and DP5—were identified and suspected to belong to the genus Streptomyces. Macroscopic and microscopic characterization indicated that all isolates exhibited white, yellow, and brown colony colors and were Gram-positive. Biochemical tests showed positive results for catalase, coagulase, oxidase, citrate, and TSIA tests. Antibacterial activity assays against Escherichia coli and S. aureusrevealed that isolate DP4 had the strongest inhibition zone, while showing negative activity against S. typhi. In conclusion, five Actinomycetes isolates were successfully isolated from the sediment soil of Lake Poso. Isolate DP4 demonstrated the greatest potential as an antibacterial candidate by inhibiting two pathogenic bacteria. Based on 16S rDNA sequence similarity analysis, isolate DP4 was identified as S. aurantiacus with 99% similarity. Keywords: Actinomycetes, Antibacterial, Lake Poso, Exploration

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Etlingera hemisphaerica (honje) fruit juice on the recovery of erythrocyte and leukocyte counts in mice (Mus musculus) exposed to mercuric chloride (HgCl₂). The method used was an experimental design using male mice as test animals, divided into three groups: K1 (control), K2 (honje juice 0.3 mL/20 g BW for 3 days), and K3 (HgCl₂ 5 mg/kg BW + honje juice 0.3 mL/20 g BW for 3 days). The observed parameters were the number of erythrocytes and leukocytes before and after treatment. The results showed that honje juice administration increased the erythrocyte count in group K2, while in group K3, erythrocyte recovery was affected by mercury exposure, making the honje juice less effective, although the values remained within the normal range compared to the control group. In leukocyte count, group K2 showed a stabilizing effect, whereas group K3 experienced an increase due to HgCl₂ exposure. In conclusion, Etlingera hemisphaerica fruit juice has potential as a phytotherapy agent to repair hematological damage caused by heavy metal toxicity, although its effectiveness is influenced by the metabolic condition of the mice and the high concentration of mercury. Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the combined extracts of Eleutherine bulbosa and Zingiber officinale as an antihyperuricemic therapy in mice. The research employed a post-test only control group design with seven treatment groups, consisting of a negative control, a positive control (allopurinol), and five groups receiving different doses and ratios of the combined extracts. Uric acid levels were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s multiple range test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the combined extracts significantly reduced uric acid levels compared to the negative control, although no significant differences were observed among the combination groups. The combination dose of 300 mg/kg body weight with a 1:2 ratio produced a reduction in uric acid levels most comparable to the positive control. In conclusion, the combination of E. bulbosa and Z. officinale shows potential as an antihyperuricemic agent; however, further studies are required to explore the cellular mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, and related gene expression involved.
