Abstract

This study aimed at determining the increase in students’ learning outcomes in social science by applying the student teams achievement divisions (STAD) model with the steps based on Curriculum 2013. This research was a type of a classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles in 33 fourth grade students in a primary school in Salatiga in second semester of academic year 2017/2018. Data was collected using test and non-test techniques with help of evaluation test and an observation sheet.  Results show improvement of learning outcomes by applying STAD model on social science subjects. The average completeness of learning outcomes increased from pre-cycle to cycle II. At pre cycle, the average was 57.71 with 31,42% completeness, at cycle I was 68.28 with 50% completeness, and cycle II was 70 with 71.87% completeness. Therefore, applying the STAD model can improve the learning outcomes of primary students in social science.

Abstract

This study was carried out to disclose the gender bias issue by analysing English teaching materials. The research objects are three textbooks used by junior high school students from 7th to 9th grade in learning English at one school in Karawang. This is a qualitative research implementing content analysis to obtain the findings. From the outcomes of the research, it shows clearly that the three books have only delivered very little value of gender equality within the contents, in which gender stereotype dominantly become the primary issue. As a result, it is necessary for English teaching materials at junior high school level to be adjusted and revised with more balanced contents of gender equality perspective.

Abstract

Assessment of Students' Attitudes towards Natural Sciences in Muaro Jambi District Junior High School. This study aims to determine the attitudes of junior high school students towards natural science subjects with three indicators adopted from TOSRA, namely 1) the normality of science scientists, 2) adoption of scientific attitudes, and 3) pleasure in learning science. The type of research used in this study is a type of survey research using quantitative research designs. This study was conducted in several junior high schools in Muaro Jambi Regency with a sample of 2815 students. The research sample was taken from 2 classes of class VII and VIII using total sampling technique in questionnaire distribution and purposive sampling for interviews. The results of the study of the three indicators show the dominant attitude in the good category. The normality of science scientists is in good category with a percentage of 52%. Adoption of scientific attitudes shows a good category with a percentage of categories 58.4%. The pleasure of learning science is well categorized with a percentage of 65.4%.

Abstract

The research aims to determine disverification of the students’ mathematical problem solving skill differences with Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) learning model using open-ended problem (OEP), students who are using POE learning model and students who following conventional learning. This research is quasi-experiment with post-test only control group design. The population that is observed in this research is students of Senior High School number 5 Denpasar 2018/2019 school year in eleventh grade. Sample which has been picked is 3 classes using cluster random sampling thecnic. There are from 3 classess have been chosen 2 classes are being experimental classes and 1 class is a control class. Students’ mathematical probem solving skill measures using mathematic problem solving skill test. Data which is gained analyzed using one way ANAVA to find out first hypothesis and continued with scheffe test. Hypothesis test result showed that: firstly, there are differences of mathematical problem solving skills between students who used POE learning model using open-ended problem and students who followed conventional learning method (F_count=19,24 and F_table=3,08 ; F_count>F_table); secondly, students’ mathematical problem solving skill by the students who use POE learning model is better than students who following conventional learning (F_scheffe=10,43 and F'=6,16 ; F_scheffe>F'); third, students’ mathematic problem solving skill with POE learning model using open-ended problem is better than the students who followed conventional method konvensional (F_scheffe=9,09 and F'=6,16 ; F_scheffe>F'); fourth, students’ mathematic problem solving skill using POE learning model using open-ended problem is better than the students who only got conventional learning (F_scheffe=38,46 and F'=6,16 ; F_scheffe>F'). It can be concluded that POE learning model using open-ended problem give influence towards students’ mathematical problem solving skill.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to produce a mathematics material based on high order thinking skills in improving the logical thinking skills of junior high school students. The material in this resource is ‘SOLID” for junior high school students of class VIII. This research is research and development. The development model used includes potential problems, information gathering, product design, design validation, design improvements, product trials, and product revisions. The test of validity and practicality of the product is assessed by experts, teachers and students. The final product trial was conducted in several schools in Banten province. Effectiveness is tested using inferential statistical by looking at the significant difference of pretest and post-test value regarding students' logical thinking skills. The results showed that the product of development results including the category is very valid according to the experts, practically according to the assessment of teachers and students. The resulting product was also effective according to the mean difference test showing that there were significant differences before and after the teaching materials were given at a significance level of 5%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop teaching material for exposition text writing based on a contextual approach for class X high school students. This teaching material is needed to support students' ability to write exposition text. Based on the results of observation and analysis of initial needs, students find it difficult because the text used in the textbook used is not contextual so it is difficult to understand students. The research carried out was by using research and development method which refers to the development of Borg and Gall which is tailored to the needs. This study was designed according to the needs of students in class X BPS & K I Jakarta High School. The book cover is designed to describe the contents of the material in this product. The content of the product consists of seven materials. The material is (1) Composing the sentence of nominal and verbal sentences. (2) Introducing paragraph reasoning patterns. (3) Facts and opinions in the exposition text. (4) Arranging the first exposition text structure, namely the thesis. (5) Arranging the structure of the second epic text, namely classes. (6) Arranging the third exposition text structure that is the conclusion. (7) Arranging exposition texts with appropriate structures and rules. All material, examples, texts, exercises, and illustrations of images contained in the teaching materials are adapted to the environment in Jakarta. The presence of contextual teaching materials is expected to facilitate students to study exposition texts.
