Abstract

Introduction: Knowledge and skills required for a dentist to be able to manage dan promote their dental practice are not only clinical skills but also managerial skills. One of which is the marketing and its strategy. Marketing need to be implemented in dental services. Objective: To determine the marketing strategies in dental services. Method: The research design used for this manuscript is literature the review. The selection criteria for the articles are experimental and cross-sectional studies. Articles were obtained using electronic databases Google Scholar with the keywords "dental services marketing" AND "marketing strategy" AND "advertising in dentistry" AND "dental practices" AND "dentist patient" AND "social marketing" AND "marketing platform" AND "social media or twitter or instagram or facebook or website”. Result: A total of 367 articles were identified after screening and removing duplicates, 11 journals met the inclusion criteria. These studies mainly covered the field of dental education and research on marketing strategies through social media in various countries. Conclusion: Social media is one effective marketing strategy in attracting patients to come to dental clinics. However, in some studies, social media is considered to have less influence on patients' considerations choosing a dentist. Social media platforms preferred by dentists as marketing platforms are LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp. One critical issue in the use of social media is related to ethical and privacy perspectives.

Abstract

Unicystic ameloblastoma is a type of ameloblastoma that often occurs at a young age. Unicystic ameloblastoma can occur due to neoplastic transformation from an odontogenic cyst to an odontogenic tumor, ameloblastic transformation of reduced enamel epithelium from developing teeth, or cystic degeneration of solid ameloblastoma. However, there is no convincing evidence has yet been found for each proposed pathogenesis. This study aims to determine the development of etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination. This study aims to determine the development of etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination. The study was conducted using a systematic review method through searching journals on PubMed, Google Scholar and Scopus using keywords. In the initial search, 1109 journals were obtained, which were then selected based on inclusion criteria, namely English-language journals published in 2017-2020, indexed in Scopus, and relating to the etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination, so that 16 journals were obtained. Etiology of the unicystic ameloblastoma has not undergone renewal, and the currently known pathogenesis of the unicystic ameloblastoma is molecular pathogenesis, namely where the development of odontogenic lesions occurs due to pathogenic gene mutations that affect the signaling pathway. The mutation that often occurs is the BRAF V600E mutation which is included in the MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract

Introduction: Based on Indonesia Basic Health Research in 2018, it is known that 47% of Lampung people experience tooth decay and only 51% of them regularly go to the dentist. The need for orthodontic treatment is quite high among students. Epidemiological studies in Japan show that around 40% of teenagers aged 15-18 years need orthodontic treatment, 27%-36% in England aged 10-15 years, while in South Jakarta (2004) is 48.5%. Brook and Shaw introduced the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN), to assess the need for orthodontic treatment in England. IOTN has been applied by Agusni, T to measure the treatment needs of urban and rural children in Surabaya. Objective: Aims to determine the perceptions of elementary school students in Lampung regarding Malocclusion and the need for Orthodontic treatment. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in May 2023, carried out on students at public Elementary School Bumi Agung who met the inclusion criteria, namely aged 9-13 years, had never and were not currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, and were willing to take part in the research. 130 people were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Questionnaires were used to obtain sociodemographic data and general knowledge about Dental and Oral Health and Malocclusion. Assessment of the need for orthodontic treatment was carried out using the AC IOTN by the subject and operator. Results: 90% of students answered the questionnaire correctly, and 42% of students needed orthodontic treatment. A Pearson Chi-Square analysis test was carried out and found that there was a statistical difference in the perception of the need for orthodontic treatment by students and operators (p-value <0.05). Conclusion: Students at SDN Bumi Agung, Kalianda, Lampung, have very good general knowledge about Dental and Oral Health and Malocclusion. However, this is unsubstantiated by the perception of the need for orthodontic treatment.

Abstract

Introduction: Endocrown is an indirect restoration following the endodontic treatment made of ceramic material as a substitute for post core crown. The endocrown is cemented to the inner wall of the pulp chamber and to the cavity margins to increase the macromechanical retention. Material commonly used are monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate; both can be obtained using the CAD/CAM technique. Good endocrown restoration must be able to handle the chewing workload especially on the posterior tooth. Objective: To determine the difference in fracture toughness of monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate CAD/CAM endocrown. Methods: This study used 6 endocrown CAD/CAM samples, attached to typodont prototype in 3D resin printing model produced by the printing machine. Samples were divided into 2 groups. Group A were monolithic zirconia endocrowns and group B were lithium disilicate endocrowns. The fracture toughness was calculated using the Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Results: Fracture toughness of the monolithic zirconia endocrown were 2.747 N and lithium disilicate were 769 N. The unpaired t test showed that there was significant difference in fracture toughness between groups (p < 0,05). Conclusion: Monolithic zirconia endocrown has a higher fracture toughness compared to the lithium disilicate endocrown, but lithium disilicate is more recommended as an endocrown restoration material because its fracture toughness is closer to masticatory load of posterior teeth.

Abstract

In periodontal surgery, utilizing a conservative approach yields more aesthetically pleasing outcomes while reducing patient morbidity and tissue damage. The development of tools such as electrosurgery and lasers for periodontal treatment has facilitated the implementation of these conservative procedures. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy, outcomes, and postoperative complications of scalpel, electrosurgery, and laser techniques in the periodontal surgery. This article was created by making a research question using the PICO method and searching for articles from PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar from 2019-2023. This study used the PRISMA standard guidelines. Almost all studies in this systematic case review compared the three therapies in treating gingival hyperpigmentation. Only one study discussed the treatment of gingival enlargement using the gingivectomy method. Laser use in periodontal surgery is best compared to electrosurgery or scalpel in effectiveness, quality, outcome, postoperative complications, and wound healing. Dry and bloodless surgical wounds, instant sterilization of the surgical area, reduced bacteremia, mechanical trauma, minimal postoperative swelling and scarring, and minimal postoperative pain point to the effectiveness of using lasers compared to surgery with electrosurgery or scalpel techniques. Laser therapy in periodontal surgery is superior to scalpel and electrosurgery, offering faster treatment, fewer postoperative complications, enhanced wound healing, and higher patient satisfaction. These findings support the adoption of laser techniques for optimal clinical and patient outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Composite resins require a bonding material in their attachment to the tooth surface. IV generation is the gold standard because it has high bond strength in tooth structure and durability in long-term use with the total-etch technique. Universal bonding is the newest generation that can be applied in total-etch, self-etch, or selective etch, and it has high bond strength to the enamel. The measurement of the strength by the bonding material against the tooth surface can be measured by using a shear bond strength test. Objective: To determine the effect of generation IV and universal bonding (total-etch, self-etch) on the shear bond strength of nanofiller composite resin on the enamel surface. Methods: A total of 30 mandibular premolars were divided into three groups. In the first group, bonding generation IV (Optibond FL, Kerr) was used. Universal bonding (Optibond Universal, Kerr) were used in the second group as total-etch, and in self-etch in the third group. The composite resin used was a nanofiller composite resin (Filtek Z350XT, 3M ESPE). After restorations were applied, specimens were stored in incubator at 37˚C for 24 hours and then tested at 0.5 mm/min with universal testing machine. Results: one-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference in each treatment group (p<0.05), and there was a significant difference in the generation IV bonding with the universal bonding in self-etch technique at the Tukey post-hoc test (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of generation IV bonding and universal bonding (total-etch, self-etch) on the shear bond strength of nanofiller composite resin on enamel.

Abstract

One of the things that contribute to global warming and environmental damage is medical waste from dental practice. Green Dentistry is an eco-friendly concept of dental practice. Green Dentistry is present as a solution to preserve natural resources, reducing energy use and lessen the waste produced. This study aimed to obtain an overview of knowledge, attitudes, and practice of green dentistry among dentists and dental students. This scoping review uses a literature search on the Google Scholar database guided by PRISMA. The study population was dentists and dental students. Inclusion criteria were observational studies on green dentistry published during 2018 - 2022 in English and Indonesian language. Articles were selected based on tittle, abstract and full text. Extracted data was presented in tables and summarized for an overview of evidence. From 88 articles obtained, 11 articles were included in this review. Each article contains knowledge, attitudes and practice regarding green dentistry, eco-friendly practices in dental clinic, and medical waste management. Each article uses a questionnaire with various number of domains and items. Knowledge, attitudes, and practice of dentists and dental students regarding green dentistry are still not evenly distributed. Postgraduate dentists were found to have better knowledge. Barriers that were often encountered are cost factors and lack of training or information. Knowledge regarding green dentistry concept among dentist and dental students still needs to be improved. Providing information about specific actions related to the concept of green dentistry is necessary.
