Abstract

This research is based on the problem of the low mathematical visual thinking ability in learning mathematics. To overcome this, research was carried out using a STEM-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL-STEM) model. This study examines the problem of improving visual mathematical abilities among students who receive mathematics learning with the STEM-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL-STEM) model. This research is quasi-experimental, the design used is the Nonequivalent Control Group Design using the Purposive Sampling technique. The population in this study were high school students in Bandung Regency in the academic year 2021/2022, with the research sample being high school students in class X. The instrument used in the study was a visual mathematical ability test. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively by using the Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that (1) Overall the application of the PjBL-STEM learning model could improve students' mathematical visual thinking abilities, (2) Improved mathematical visual thinking skills of students whose learning using the PjBL-STEM learning model was significantly better than students who learned using conventional learning models.

Abstract

This research is a continuation of the article Development of Trigonometric Material Teaching Materials through the RME Approach (Meika et al., 2023). Before the teaching materials that have been developed are used, it is necessary to know in advance the effectiveness of the teaching materials. Therefore, it is necessary to trial the use of these teaching materials in a class to determine their effectiveness. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of RME-based LKPD on the ability to understand concepts in terms of learning completeness. The method used is Design Based Research (DBR) with the Plomp development model consisting of three stages, namely: Preliminary Research, Prototyping Stage and Assessment. This article contains the results of the assessment phase. At the assessment stage, a final test was carried out and filled out a student response questionnaire to determine the effectiveness of the LKPD that had been developed. The effectiveness of LKPD is seen from the completeness of student learning outcomes. The final test results showed that the average score of class X Science 1 was 78 with three students who did not complete KKM. KKM Madrasah Aliyah Mathla'ul Anwar Menes Centre is 71. The percentage of students who achieved completion was 85.72%. Therefore, LKPD products have been effective in developing students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. The results of the student response questionnaire showed that the average percentage of all aspects assessed was 77.87% with the category "Good".

Abstract

The background of this development is the importance of higher order thinking skills for primary school students, to support these abilities, it is necessary to have learning resources that support and are in accordance with technological developments. However, the facts in the school show that existing learning resources are still conventional and have yet to lead to the achievement of higher order thinking. Based on this background, the purpose of this development is to develop HOTS-based digital student worksheets in mathematics learning in primary schools. This research was conducted at SDIT Al-Hujjaj Cilegon City for fifth grade students. The development model used is the ADDIE model, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. The instruments used to measure the feasibility of this products are expert validation questionnaires consisting of media experts, content experts, and language experts, practicality questionnaires and higher order thinking skills tests. Based on the results of processing the expert validation questionnaire, the results obtained are the media expert's assessment getting an average percentage score of 88% with very feasible criteria, the content expert's assessment getting an average percentage score of 91% with very feasible criteria, and the linguist's assessment getting an average percentage score of 90% with very feasible criteria. The results of processing the practicality questionnaire distributed to teachers and students received a percentage score of 95.2% with very practical criteria. While the test results show the achievement score of students' higher-level thinking skills of 93.8% with very good criteria and above the minimum completeness criteria set at 70. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the student worksheets developed are feasible and practical to use as complementary teaching materials and effective in developing students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning in primary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure students' creative thinking skills using stacking blocks as media. The research method used is a quantitative method. The research sample consisted of 60 students from class VII-2 and VII-3. The instrument used is a test of the ability to think creatively and use stacking blocks as media. Based on the results and discussion conducted, the average value in the experimental class is higher than the average value in the control class. By using stacking blocks as media, students can improve their creative thinking skills. Out of a total of 60 students tested, only 58.33% of students had a low level of creative thinking. Of the four indicators of the ability to think creatively there are various categories such as poor, sufficient, good, and very good. In the learning process, the teacher can evaluate the level of students' creative thinking by using various types of media, including constructing blocks, and the teacher can channel their creativity in the learning process.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to describe the results of designing number pattern questions used to measure the mathematical thinking abilities of students with a kinesthetic learning style. The research subjects consisted of 5 class VIII students with a kinesthetic learning style. The type of research is design research with 5 stages, namely: Preliminary Design, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Trial, Interview, and Retrospective Analysis. The data collection techniques are learning style questionnaires, tests and interviews. The data analysis used in the research is qualitative. Based on the results of the FGD, number pattern questions can be used to measure mathematical thinking abilities, because each question leads students to bring up specializing, generalizing, conjecturing and convincing aspects. Based on the test results, it is known that students can write specializing, generalizing, conjecturing, and convincing forms. Specializing is seen when students write the form of adding numbers for each term. Generalizing is seen when students find patterns by listing them one by one or using tables, conjecturing when they find the general formula, and convincing is seen when they find other ways to prove the answer. Based on the results of the interview, students' answers were obtained through the activity of managing and simulating questions using body parts.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe students' ability to understand concepts using the guided discovery learning model in learning statistics material. The method used in this research is quasi-experimental with a one-shot case study design. The data collection technique used consisted of a test of the ability to understand mathematical concepts in the form of a description of 7 test questions and interviews. The ability to understand concepts can be seen from the analysis of students' answers to test questions given to 28 students whose research subjects were class VIII students at SMP Negeri 46 Palembang. From the results of this test, interviews were then conducted with 4 students who received ability scores in three categories of low, medium and high. The results of this research show that more than 20 students have met the indicators of ability to understand concepts with an average answer of 80% -93% with an average score of "83.88", a very good assessment criterion.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of Missouri Mathematics Project learning model on students' mathematical communication ability in terms of students' mathematical self-efficacy. This research is a quasi-experimental. The population in this study were all grade X students in one of the public high schools in Surakarta city in 2023. The sample in this study was taken by cluster random sampling consisting of two classes, namely the experimental class that received the Missouri Mathematics Project learning model and the control class that received the Problem-Based Learning model. Data collection techniques through questionnaires to obtain data on student self-efficacy and student mathematical communication ability tests to obtain data on students' mathematical communication ability. Data analysis technique used two-way ANOVA with unequal cells. The results showed that the mathematical communication ability of students who were given the Missouri Mathematics Project learning model were better than students who were given the Problem-Based Learning model, both in general and in terms of student self-efficacy, both high, medium, and low. In the aspect of self-efficacy, both in general and in each learning model, high self-efficacy has the same good mathematical communication ability as moderate self-efficacy, high self-efficacy students have better mathematical communication ability than students with low self-efficacy, and moderate self-efficacy students have better mathematical communication ability.
