Abstract

Qorin (2022) is one of the contemporary Indonesian horror films that incorporates Islamic religious elements as a theme in its narrative. This research aims to examine the use of religious identity both audio and visual in the narratives of contemporary horror films in Indonesia. The research method used is qualitative description with content analysis. The theory used to examine the film is the theory of New Historicism. Through this theory, the film Qorin (2022) will be examined based on 2 things: the interdiscursivity of the film text with texts outside the film and the world or meaning to be depicted in the film. The conclusion of this research shows that the movie Qorin provides an overview of the socio-cultural conditions that occur in Indonesia through religious identity. This can be seen especially in the relationship between religious leaders and their followers.

Abstract

Animations were given credentials as an effective medium in various campaigns and public service announcements (PSA). It helps to shape and spread information, frame public attitudes, and ensure the roles and responsibilities. History records how animations were utilized as PSA during WW2 in the form of training content, instructions, propaganda and ideological tools to promote and glorify patriotism. In higher education, animations can be utilized to support the socialization material about quality assurance. An animated PSA in the form of a video explainer was produced as a collaboration between the Quality Assurance (QA) Department and the Animation Study Program of Politeknik Multimedia Nusantara to support project-based learning for semester 2 students. This article aims to link connections between the history of animation as a public service announcement (PSA) with the conduct of project-based learning in vocational institutions, and quality assurance socialization. Descriptions about the history of moving images, project-based learning strategies, and quality assurance socialization are implemented as methodologies to explain the interrelationships among the three. The authors then present a gap analysis regarding the problems in implementing project-based learning faced by the animation study program and the problems faced by the QA department. An action plan is produced to close the gap using existing resources. The result is a descriptive explanation to support the feasibility of how a vocational institution should connect the needs of academic departments and other departments through a collaborative process. In the discussion section, an analysis will be presented of how animation as a medium is capable of transcending the boundaries across departments Keywords: moving image history, animation, project-based learning, quality assurance in education

Abstract

This research aims to investigate: history, and the collections at the Asi Mbojo Museum in Bima that can be used as sources for teaching history in high schools. This study is a qualitative research using historical research methods through several steps: (1) heuristics, (2) source criticism, (3) interpretation, and (4) historiography. The results of this study indicate that current history education still lacks the ability to attract students' interest. If this continues, it will result in a generation of young people who do not love their homeland and local culture. Learning resources for history should not be limited to what is in books alone, as effective history teaching resources can include descriptions of places or environments, objects, people, and surrounding facts. Therefore, this research finds that the Asi Mbojo Museum has great potential as an effective learning medium to attract students' interest in directly observing the relics of the Bima Sultanate. There are many important relics that can be used as historical learning resources, including the Royal Crown, Royal Weapons such as Keris, Golok La Ngunti Rante, Sondi, ancient manuscripts, everyday life artifacts, and traditional Bima textile art collections. Thus, the historical heritage of the Bima Sultanate has great potential to be used as a source for teaching history in high schools.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the process of cultural acculturation between Manggarai’s indigenous traditions and European influences through a case study of Christ the King Church in Pagal Village, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. The research background traces back to the European expansion into the archipelago from the 16th century under the “gold, glory, gospel” paradigm, which not only pursued the spice trade but also carried a missionary agenda. In-depth interviews with key informants including a traditional elder, the parish council chair, the parish priest, the village head, administrative staff, and a history teacher revealed that the Pagal community embraced Catholic teachings prior to the arrival of the Dutch and subsequently integrated these with local cultural values. The qualitative methodology employed heuristic source gathering, field observation, structured and spontaneous interviews, and document analysis, followed by source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. architectural analysis highlights the integration of mbaru gendang elements—symbols of Manggarai unity—within the church’s structure and ornamentation, including its dome, nativity scene decorations, and the practice of celebrating mass in traditional attire and local language. this reciprocal process of acculturation has reinforced local identity and promoted values of tolerance, religiosity, and patriotism. the findings recommend leveraging Christ the King Church in Pagal as a historical learning resource for senior high schools to foster character education through an understanding of cultural acculturation.   Keywords: acculturation, church architecture, learning resource, history.
