Abstract

One of main component for every language is verb. In Arabic, q?la (???) is one of verbs which substantively is used in many oral and written language due to its wide meaning. This research focuses on meaning variation of q?la (???) when it was translated into Indonesian. In this study, differential meaning can be caused by differential speaker and also differential context. Thereby, the research aims to classify and explain every single meaning of q?la (???) verb. This descriptive qualitative research uses observation method with tapping technique. Meanwhile, the data was analyzed by translational method, referential method, and pragmatics method. The result of the research shows that; (1) There are three differential meanings of q?la (???) according to speaker perspective, as well as ?berfirman?, ?bersabda?, and ?berkata?. (2) There are some differential meanings of q?la (???) according to linguistics perspective, such as ?berkata, mengatakan, mengabarkan, mengumumkan, berbicara, mengucapkan, mengaku, pendapat, bertanya, menjawab, perintah, and berdoa.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate Arab neologism in the field of technology in the al-Akhbar newspaper. Al-Akhbar newspaper is considered representative if it is used as a material object in research relating to the neology of the word technology. The perspective used in this study was morphological studies. The neologism theory is divided into five types and fifteen rules, including 1) phonetic neologism, which consists of: a) ibdal; b) al-qalbu al-makani; c) al-tamasul; d) al-tabayun; e) al-idqham. 2) morphological neology, which consists of: a) al-isytiqaq; b) al-naht; c) al-tarkib; d) al-mu?jamah. 3) neologically semantic, which consists of: a) majaz; b) literal speech. 4) neological spontaneity, which consists of: a) al-irtijal haqiqi; b) al-irtijal al-itba?. 5) borrowing neology, which consists of: a) dakhil; b) mu?arrab. The results obtained from this study are that the al-Akhbar newspaper uses many patterns: 1) morphological neology, namely isytiqaq, at-tarkib. 2) semantic neology, namely majaz, literally tarjamah. 3) loan neology, namely ad-dakhil and mu?arrab.

Abstract

This research offered solutions and answers to the textbook problems of Arabic learning in the Arabic language development program at Islamic Studies Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The development of textbooks was done by adding pictorial explanations to the relevant vocabulary, also the learning material developed according to the expected profession. In addition, interactive exercises and themes were adapted to student interests and program goals. This study used ADDIE as a research and development model to produce innovative study, productive, and meaningful. The results of the validity tests were as follows: language validation tests show a percentage of 90%. The result of content validation was 92%, design validation result was 86%, while the result of lecturer validation was 95%. From these data, it can be concluded that the textbook was valid. Similarly, the effectiveness test by using (T-Test) showed effective results so that textbooks that had been developed were feasible to use.

Abstract

Translation is not only a process of language transfer, but also a transfer of culture from the source language to the target language. For this reason, translators must have broad and rich insights. The process to enrich cultural insights, knowledge, and treasures in the translation process can be formed through Jigsaw learning model because it is student-centered learning and requires them to independently seek and share knowledge. This study aimed to improve the ethos of students learning in Arabic translation subject and to improve students? Arabic translation quality. This classroom action research was conducted two cycles (repeated seven times). Each cycle referred to Spiral Model by Kemmis, McTaggart, and Nixon. The subjects were 52 students of C Class and D Class in Terjemah Arab-Indonesia Course at Arabic Language and Literature Department of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The data of students? learning ethos were obtained from performance grading rubric in Jigsaw learning and the data of Arabic translation quality were obtained from students worksheet assesment and end-of-cycle Arabic translation test. The results showed that Jigsaw improved (1) the ethos, the activeness, and the independence of students in seeking and sharing knowledge through Jigsaw and (2) the quality of Arabic-Indonesia translation. This model was effectively used for this course because students can translate longer texts with relatively short time.

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the method of learning turats book with a translation model in al-Amin Islamic boarding schools. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with the process of analysis deductively. The process of data retrieval was based on direct observation of the learning process in Ma?had Al-Amin. The results of this study were the process of learning turats book material using the Harfiyah translation or literal translation process. The learning process is supported by the existence of ?syamil? book which contains of material on qawaid. With the existence of the book, students were able to translate books containing subject matter with the help of the book of syamil. Therefore, the purpose of learning can be directly conveyed and students' understanding of qawaid translation if it can be done outside the classroom.

Abstract

Mind Mapping learning, that uses images and text with a purpose to describe the instructional ideas and concepts, gets lot attention by academicians. A renewal of Arabic learning method and strategy through mind mapping needs to be implemented in Arabic learning. The purpose of this study was to find out the implementation of Mind Mapping to improve students? Arabic speaking skill. The research method used in this research was descriptive quantitative by emphasizing the improvement of students' speaking abilities and eliminating boredom in learning Arabic. The analysis process presented the results of scores carried out before and after the implementation of mind mapping in Arabic learning. The results of this study were Mind Mapping strategy was effective in learning Arabic, especially in learning speaking skills, because it gave students the courage to bring out new vocabulary they must master. The results were known from the difference between students? attitude and effectiveness of mind mapping before using this instructional strategy. Based on the percentage results, the success rate of learning rose by 30% and the level of boredom of students in learning decreased by 35%. It means that this strategy can be implemented to improve Arabic speaking skill of students with joyful learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the type and functions of istitsna? in Surah al-An?am, the meanings of ?adawat istitsna? and the implication for Arabic teaching and learning. The research design is descriptive qualitative. The result of this research, istisna? phrases in Surah al-An?am based on type and function, those are istitsna? muttashil which function is li takhsis, istitsna? munqathi' which function is li istidrak and istisna? 'mufarragh which function is li hasr. The ?adawat isttisna' is not always meaningless "except" (kecuali/selain) but it can also mean "only"/"nothing but? (hanya/tidak lain hanyalah) in certain patterns. The implication of this research, there are 14 selections of patterns of istitsna? that can be implemented in Arabic teaching and learning. For example, the patterns represented in understanding the theories of istitsna? and the production of sentences by istitsna? patterns for both of speaking or writing

Abstract

There are some language skills, one of them is writing which has the steps of learning a foreign language. Writing skill has the most difficult skill. The use of instructional media has functions to facilitate teaching and learning activities, especially in Arabic learning of Imla? material. The flashcard is used as a medium to facilitate teaching and learning activities of Imla? for non-Arabic students. This research aimed to describe learning of Imla? on Arabic writing skill and describe learning implementation of Imla? on Arabic through flashcard at the level of elementary school at Elementary School level in Samarinda. The researcher used research design of qualitative descriptive by using the research instruments of observation, interview, and documentation. The research result obtained through the data sources from the principal, vice principal of curriculum, Arabic teachers and students. To analyze the data, the researcher used Miles and Huberman?s theory through three steps of data reduction, data display, and verification. The research results were that Arabic learning based on the writing skill on the elementary level included in category of Imla? manqul which is aimed for students to be able to recognize, know, and rewrite letters of Hijaiyah by the rules of writing and letters written separated or connected with other letters. The students were also able to recognize the meaning of what they wrote through flashcard. The use of flashcard was helpful in the Arabic teaching process, because the students were easier in understanding the meaning of each vocabulary they wrote. The students did not feel saturated in teaching and learning proses, because flashcard can be used by the students as a form of game which they usually play such as picture card. Therefore, the Arabic writing skill on the elementary level will be easier to be learnt by the students.

Abstract

Involving first language (L1) in second language learning (L2) is considered as an effective method to be practiced. This research focuses on a contrastive study between Arabic and Indonesian. It aims to investigate similarities and differences of the two languages, especially about their interrogative sentence forms. It is descriptive qualitative research which applies two methods; observation and introspection method. Then, Contrastive Analysis (CA) is used to analyze the data. The result shows that similarity concept between Arabic and Indonesian is many shown on mat?, ayna, lim?dz?, and hal. Meanwhile, differences between both of them are shown on m?, man, ayy, and kayfa. As a result, it may occur errors in the use of question, errors in translating interrogative sentence, and errors in understanding question.

Abstract

The COVID-19 emergency situation has affected all citizens of the world, including Indonesia and also all non-formal and formal educational institutions, such as higher educations. The Learning Process in various educational units, including tertiary institutions, experienced a total change to the use of internet or online media. The present article examines the media and the Arabic learning process at the university in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The COVID-19 pandemic situation changed the way of learning Arabic students at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang from conventional offline learning to learning using internet media online. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data are obtained through observation, questionnaires distributed through Google forms, online interviews through social media, and documentation. The result shows that the majority of students use the WhatsApp application, and most of them study autonomously through online platforms. Besides, it reveals that the most popular learning material is video. To improve their language skills, students are more likely to have peer-discussion activities. The study discovered a shift in Arabic learning by students of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang from personal to instrumental as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. In this case, there was a transformation in Arabic learning from a personal-cultural approach to an instrumental-functional approach. This research has implications regarding the ideal Arabic learning process in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The shift also took place in the degree of teachers' dependence towards dependence on technology during the pandemic situation.
