Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the implementation of multiculturalism of the Islamic values and how to develop the multiculturalism of the Islamic values at SMA 5 Samarinda. The result of data findings shows that the implementation of multiculturalism of the Islamic values at SMA 5 Samarinda covers some following sectors, they are: 1) the implementation of asma’ul husna values, 2) love other moslems, 3) strong attitude, 4) never give up, 5) religious values action, 6) appreciating others, 7) caring, 8) sharing to others, 9) democratic, 10) khalifah concept, and 11) tolerance to other religion. In terms of how to develop of the multiculturalism of the Islamic values at SMA 5 Samarinda, it was found that the result of mean score of the questionnaire was 2.86 or it is categorized “Very Good”. To sum up, the development of the multiculturalism of the Islamic values at SMA 5 Samarinda can be categorized as a Very Good.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate issues of Indonesian EFL students’ writing skills, covering ability, problem and reason why they got problems in writing comparison and contrast essay. The convergent parallel of mixed methods was used to explore these issues by involving 52 EFL students of IAIN Samarinda who enrolled the academic essay writing course. The three research instruments; essay writing test, open-ended questionnaire and interview were used in the data collection. The findings of this study revealed that the Indonesian EFL students’ writing ability was good that categorized with the mean score 77.83. However, some of them encounter problems in writing aspects including content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Their reasons in experiencing these problems are not only limited knowledge of writing aspects and comparison and contrast essay itself, but also they had own personal reasons; lack of writing practice, writing dislike, writing anxiety, negative writing perception, low writing motivation, insufficient time given in writing test, and also inadequate teaching writing process taught by their lecturers. Indeed, the teaching writing improvement that involved EFL students and lecturers should be well-integrated in order to alleviate the students’ essay writing problems related to their reasons and to improve their writing ability. Factors caused the writing difficulties will be discussed further and some suggestions will be given on this research.

Abstract

There are some language skills, one of them is writing which has the steps of learning a foreign language. Writing skill has the most difficult skill. The use of instructional media has functions to facilitate teaching and learning activities, especially in Arabic learning of Imla? material. The flashcard is used as a medium to facilitate teaching and learning activities of Imla? for non-Arabic students. This research aimed to describe learning of Imla? on Arabic writing skill and describe learning implementation of Imla? on Arabic through flashcard at the level of elementary school at Elementary School level in Samarinda. The researcher used research design of qualitative descriptive by using the research instruments of observation, interview, and documentation. The research result obtained through the data sources from the principal, vice principal of curriculum, Arabic teachers and students. To analyze the data, the researcher used Miles and Huberman?s theory through three steps of data reduction, data display, and verification. The research results were that Arabic learning based on the writing skill on the elementary level included in category of Imla? manqul which is aimed for students to be able to recognize, know, and rewrite letters of Hijaiyah by the rules of writing and letters written separated or connected with other letters. The students were also able to recognize the meaning of what they wrote through flashcard. The use of flashcard was helpful in the Arabic teaching process, because the students were easier in understanding the meaning of each vocabulary they wrote. The students did not feel saturated in teaching and learning proses, because flashcard can be used by the students as a form of game which they usually play such as picture card. Therefore, the Arabic writing skill on the elementary level will be easier to be learnt by the students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence towards the educators’ professionalism at SMP Negeri 34 Samarinda. This type of research is a field research with a quantitative approach, the data collection techniques in this study are observations and questionnaires which are then analyzed using the Alpha Cronbach formula, this is because the type of correlation in this study is multiple correlation, so to obtain valid and reliable results the calculation uses  the IMB SPSSP 20 with a significant level of 5%. The results found were the relationship between emotional intelligence and professionalism of educators at SMP Negeri 34 Samarinda was 0.750, and the relationship between spiritual intelligence and the professionalism of educators at SMP Negeri 34 Samarinda was 0.756, while the relationship between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence towards the professionalism of educators at SMP Negeri 34 Samarinda is 0.836. Thus all the existing variables are said to be related to one another.

Abstract

The learning process of students with special needs requires a model that adapts to the specificity of students. Therefore, the learning of students with special needs must be formulated by choosing the right model, so that the delivery of subject matter is well understood. So that education for students with special needs is met the same as students in general. This research was conducted to determine the learning model of students with special needs inclusive elementary schools in Gresik district, namely SDN 263 Gresik and SDN 13 Gresik. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observation, and documentation. There are seven primary data sources, including the head of the Gresik district resource center, the principal, the teacher in charge of the inclusion program, and the special companion teacher (GPK). The research was conducted for nine months, from July 2019 to April 2020. Qualitative was chosen as the research analyzer. The results of the study found that the use of the ABK learning model in the two schools is; a) Individual learning model, b) Pull out learning model or learning model in regular classes, c) Team teaching-learning model, d) Learning Model in the resource room, e) Modification of the learning curriculum.

Abstract

 Learning style is the method of a person to get solutions from problem-solving in process of learning. In this case, students’ learning styles have closely relation to their achievement. In this research, the researchers focus on the the type of learning styles of high achiever students of the English department at IAIN Samarinda. This is a survey research where the researchers collected by usig the Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire. The subject of this research is the high achiever students of the English Department at IAIN Samarinda that consists of twenty-two students from fifth and seventh semester students. This research found that all of learning styles exist in this research results where visual learning style become the highest percentage among others. Students’ learning habits in everyday life also play important role in determining their learning style. Research discussion and suggestion are provided further in this study.

Abstract

Early childhood between the ages of 0 and 6 years experiences rapid growth and development. Children at this age have considerable potential that must be nurtured by providing essential knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Teachers are responsible for helping students reach their full potential through learning activities. One of them is creating exciting learning media that increases students' concentration and motivation. This study aims to adapt the use of naturalist illustration media to children's concentration and learning motivation. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using documentation, observation, and interviews. The results show that using realistic images can arouse children's curiosity, increase their focus, and encourage learning through activities and consequences. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the use of naturalist images is very suitable for early childhood education, as evidenced by the increase in children's attention and learning motivation

Abstract

Listening is often view as receptive or passive skill that hard to be measured. Nevertheless, listening is one skill that play a big role in enhancing students’ proficiency in English. Therefore, improving students’ quality in listening is important. According to Al-Musalli, there are four sub-skills involved in listening: 1) literal level, it involves three main types of skill: phonological, syntactic, and lexical skills; 2) inferential level, it related to the comprehension of the text; 3) critical level includes: making an appropriate judgment about the message, the speaker personality, and the topic, and; 4) creative level includes handling verbal and non-verbal communication strategies and responding in the proper way. All of these sub-skills can be used as the criteria to view students’ mastery level of listening. This research only applies three level as a benchmark to know students’ quality of listening, they are: literal, inferential, and critical. The objective of this research is to know the students’ quality in listening skill based on mastery level of listening. The research design is descriptive. The subjects of study are five students who meet the researcher’s criteria. Data collection technique in this research is using test of listening, interview, observation and documentation. The data is analyzed using the model of Miles and Huberman. After being collected, the data is verified using triangulation by method and another researcher. The result of this research shows that students at fourth semester of English Education Department in IAIN Samarinda located in inferential level of mastery listening skill which means their quality in listening can be categorized as good.

Abstract

This study aims to identify forms of technology integration in learning English at MTs. level, especially in the East Kalimantan region, and to find out the forms of learning innovations carried out by English teachers as a form of solution to the challenge of the science and technology development in the digital era. This type of research is qualitative descriptive, and observations, interviews, and documentation as a form of data collection techniques, then analyzed based on Miles and Huberman's theory with the stages of initial observation, data collection research, data reduction, data compilation and grouping, validation, and conclusions. The results obtained are the types of technology used in learning English including Youtube, WhatsApp, email, blog, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The form of learning innovations conducted by teachers is based on the use of technology that is utilized in the form of innovative strategies, methods, techniques, design of teaching materials, and development of teaching materials.
