Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of age and the number of family members on the financial literacy of coffee farmers in Central Aceh Regency. Financial literacy is regarded as a crucial ability for farmers in managing income and financial planning, particularly in facing coffee price fluctuations and the risk of household economic instability. This research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method on 105 coffee farmer respondents selected through a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire adapted from the OECD/INFE Toolkit to measure three dimensions of financial literacy: financial knowledge, financial behavior, and financial attitude. Data analysis was conducted using non-parametric statistical tests. The results show that age has a significant negative effect on the financial literacy of coffee farmers in Central Aceh, meaning that as age increases, the level of financial literacy tends to decrease. Conversely, the number of family members was found to have no significant influence on financial literacy. These findings provide important implications for the design of financial education programs that focus on older age groups in rural areas, in order to enhance financial independence and the sustainability of coffee farming.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of durian (Durio zibethinus L.) productivity between Indonesia and Malaysia based on secondary data from 2019 to 2023. A quantitative descriptive method was applied by calculating the ratio between total production (tons) and cultivated area (hectares). The results indicate that although Indonesia has a much larger cultivation area, averaging 10.69 million hectares, its productivity remains low at around 0.11–0.16 tons/ha. In contrast, Malaysia, with an average of only 76 thousand hectares, achieved a significantly higher productivity level of 5.08–5.56 tons/ha. This difference is mainly due to the use of certified superior varieties such as Musang King, the implementation of intensive cultivation systems and modern agricultural technologies, and strong institutional support through national policies. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s durian productivity is still constrained by the use of uncertified seedlings, traditional farming techniques, and inefficient post-harvest management. The study concludes that improving durian productivity in Indonesia requires the strengthening of technological innovation, certified superior variety development, and the establishment of an integrated and sustainable agribusiness system to enhance competitiveness in the international market.

Abstract

Banking is a financial institution that drives the economy of society, including agricultural producers. The financial literacy index in 2014 showed a very low value of 65.43%. Limited financial literacy hinders farmers' ability to access formal credit institutions such as banks. Financial technology has emerged as an alternative to make it easier for farmers to access sources of financial financing. This study aims to examine the impact of farmer characteristics, financial literacy, and financing service quality on access to formal credit, along with the determinants that influence access to formal credit in financial technology. This study was conducted in Kabandungan District, Sukabumi Regency. The research methodology used was a mixed method, with a total of 100 farmer participants from Kabandungan District. The analysis methods used are descriptive and qualitative analysis, utilizing Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and Smart PLS software. The t-statistic value shows that farmer characteristics with a t-statistic value of 4.48 and financial literacy with a t-statistic value of 11.25 have a significant effect on access to formal credit and financing quality in Financial Technology financing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the exchange rate of farmers in the livestock subsector of Aceh Province using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method. The variables used in the study are the decomposition of the components that make up the Livestock Farmer Exchange Rate, namely the price index paid by farmers for household consumption expenditure, seed prices, prices of medicines and feed, rent and other expenses, transportation costs, costs of adding capital goods, wages of farm workers and the exchange rate of livestock farmers for the period January 2017 to December 2024 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The results of the study show that in the long term, the variables of the household consumption price index, the rental price index and other expenses, the seed price index and the labor wage price index have a significant effect on the exchange rate of livestock farmers in Aceh Province, while the variables of the drug and feed price index, the transportation price index and the price index of capital goods addition do not have a significant effect. In the short term, the household consumption price index and the transportation price index have a significant effect on the exchange rate for livestock farmers in Aceh Province. In contrast, the variables of the seed price index, the price index of medicines and feed, the price index of rent and other expenses, the price index of capital goods, and the price index of labor wages do not have a significant effect. Abstract

Price differences of mustard greens between the farm level and the final consumer indicate problems in price transmission and marketing efficiency. This study aims to analyze the elasticity of price transmission and the level of marketing efficiency of mustard greens in Grinting Village. The research was conducted using a survey method involving farmers and marketing institutions, with data analysis covering the identification of marketing channels, marketing margins, farmer’s share, price transmission elasticity, and the Marketing Efficiency Index (MEI). The results show that there are four marketing channels for mustard greens with different characteristics and levels of efficiency. The price transmission elasticity indicates that price changes at the consumer level are not fully transmitted to the farm level. Longer marketing channels tend to generate higher marketing margins and lower farmer’s share. In contrast, the shortest marketing channel, in which farmers sell directly to consumers, is the most efficient channel as it provides a higher price proportion to farmers. These findings highlight the importance of developing shorter marketing channels to improve the welfare of mustard green farmers.

Abstract

The availability of high-quality rice seeds is an important prerequisite in supporting regional food security. However, the production capacity of certified seeds in West Kalimantan is still low compared to the existing rice field requirements. This study aims to analyze the socioeconomic characteristics, land conditions, and readiness of rice seed production facilities as a basis for strengthening the seed system towards regional seed independence. The research was conducted from September to November 2025 in nine districts/cities that are seed production centers using a survey method involving 60 certified rice seed producers. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and field observations, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using JASP. The results showed that seed producers were predominantly of productive age (average 51.1 years) with 8.2 years of business experience and relatively small land areas (1.86 ha). Average seed productivity was 3.66 tons/ha with variations between agroecosystems. The availability of agricultural machinery was relatively good, but post-harvest facilities such as drying floors and standard warehouses were still limited. Participation in technical guidance is high, but involvement in cooperatives is still low. Strengthening cooperative institutions, supporting post-harvest infrastructure, and applying location-specific technologies are priority strategies for increasing rice seed self-sufficiency in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

The palm oil industry is closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through its contribution to improving community welfare. Rokan Hulu Regency in Riau Province is one of the regions with the highest palm oil production; however, productivity remains relatively low, especially among smallholder plantations. The mismatch between the natural potential of plantations and farmers’ capacity to utilize production inputs, coupled with high production costs and low-income levels, has pushed many farmers into extreme poverty. This study aims to examine the level of technical efficiency and the influence of socioeconomic factors on the efficiency of input utilization in smallholder oil palm farming. Primary data were collected from 160 smallholder oil palm farmers in the Rokan IV Koto and Ujung Batu Districts. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was employed to estimate technical efficiency, while a Tobit regression model was used to analyze the socioeconomic factors affecting efficiency. The results indicate that smallholder farmers are inefficient in utilizing production inputs. In particular, the allocation of seeds and labor, as key economic inputs, requires greater attention and prioritization. The Variable Returns to Scale (VRS) efficiency score is higher than the Constant Returns to Scale (CRS) score, indicating that smallholder oil palm farming operates under conditions of increasing returns to scale. Socioeconomic factors that significantly influence technical efficiency include age, education level, membership in farmer groups, and the application of organic fertilizer. In contrast, household size, access to credit, and the distance between farmers’ residences and their plantations do not significantly affect the efficiency of smallholder oil palm farming.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of the corn commodity trade balance to GDP. This study uses quantitative research using secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Trade Map, and UN Comtrade. The variables used in this study are the corn commodity trade balance and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Indonesia. The corn commodity data used is HS (100590) corn (maize) other than corn seeds, for the period 1989-2024. It was analyzed using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method with Eviews 12 software. The results of this study indicate that the corn commodity trade balance and GDP have no short-term and long-term effects, even though they are cointegrated. However, the Error Correction Term (ECT) coefficient has a negative and significant value, even though its contribution is indirect. In the short term, the contribution of the corn trade balance to GDP was only 1.474892%. Meanwhile, in the long term, the contribution of the corn trade balance to GDP reached 94.16855%. Abstract

The Indonesian palm oil industry faces various environmental challenges, prompting the government to establish the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) standard as an instrument for sustainable business governance and greenhouse gas emission mitigation. However, ISPO implementation still faces obstacles, particularly in smallholder plantations, which account for 40.5% of the total national palm oil plantation area. Upstream workers, particularly harvest workers, play a strategic role in the sustainability of this industry. Air Rami District, Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province, is one of the palm oil production centers with 13,325 hectares of smallholder plantation status in 2023. This study aims to analyze the distribution and income inequality of smallholder palm oil harvest workers in Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province. The method used is quantitative descriptive analysis with income calculations and the Gini coefficient. The results show that the distribution of harvest worker income consists of 76.7% coming from the agricultural sector (harvest laborers, plantations, fisheries, and livestock) and 23.3% coming from non-agricultural sectors (entrepreneurship and others). Meanwhile, income distribution as harvest laborers accounts for 55.3% of total income. Furthermore, income inequality among smallholder oil palm harvest laborers is moderate, with a Gini coefficient of 0.47. Furthermore, income inequality decreases with income diversification, with a Gini coefficient of 0.40.
