Abstract

The cultivation of oil palm has significantly increased in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province over the past decade, as farmers seek to improve their socioeconomic status. However, the agricultural practices of independent farmers often deviate from the desired standards. Implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in oil palm cultivation is crucial to optimizing farmers' efforts. This research evaluates farmers' understanding of GAP and the sustainable integration of cattle-palm oil cultivation. The study was conducted in Tiang Tara Village, using face-to-face interviews with independent farmers who own oil palm plantations. The findings revealed a significant lack of understanding among farmers regarding GAP and cattle-palm oil integration. Farmers continued to rely on traditional methods and the wisdom of experienced practitioners. At first, many were reluctant to adopt cattle-palm oil integration due to various constraints, including land scarcity, limited access to livestock grants, and insufficient knowledge of livestock management. The study recommends facilitating technology transfer from experienced farmers to their independent counterparts, increasing the dissemination of GAP knowledge by agricultural extension officers, and providing livestock grants along with intensive training and mentoring. These measures aim to promote sustainable integration of cattle-palm oil cultivation, enhancing both productivity and sustainability for independent farmers.

Abstract

This study aims to map the most potential vegetables to be developed in West Sumatra Province. The Location Quotient (LQ) method is employed to identify leading and non-leading commodities, while the Shift Share Analysis (SSA) is used to analyze structural changes and the competitivenessof the commodities. The study utilizes secondary data in the form of vegetable sub-sectorhorticultural production data by regency/city over a six-year period (2017–2022). The results showthat large chili is the leading vegetable commodity in West Sumatra, with an LQ value greater than1 across 17 regencies/cities. Conversely, garlic is categorized as a non-leading commodity, with anLQ > 1 found in only one regency. Nevertheless, garlic is identified as the most progressivecommodity based on the highest net shift value. Net growth of vegetable sub-sector commoditieswas identified in 10 out of 18 regencies/cities, with Solok Regency contributing the most. In termsof individual commodities, cabbage recorded the highest net growth, while chayote experienced thelowest. The resulting commodity mapping can serve as a basis for local government in formulatingspatial and sustainable development policies, as well as a strategic reference for businesses andinvestors in directing horticultural investments in West Sumatra.

Abstract

The palm oil industry in Indonesia has become one of the largest sources of vegetable oil in the world and is important to the country's economy, contributing significantly to state revenue. This study aims to analyze the socioeconomic characteristics of smallholder oil palm farmers in Lamandau Regency, as well as the challenges they face in cultivation practices. The method used is a qualitative approach through literature study and semi-structured interviews with two smallholder farmers. The results of the study show that the majority of smallholders have less than 10 hectares of land and are classified as lower-middle income. They are generally not members of cooperatives or farmer associations, which results in weak bargaining power in the supply chain and dependence on middlemen for the sale of their crops. In addition, smallholder farmers face challenges in accessing financing, inadequate infrastructure, and market price fluctuations. The conclusion of this study shows that in order to improve the welfare of smallholder farmers and palm oil productivity, efforts are needed to increase access to financing, strengthen farmer organizations through cooperatives, and improve infrastructure and access to better markets.

Abstract

Lamuk Crackers, a beloved traditional snack from Kalirong Village in Kediri, exemplifies an innovative way to repurpose cassava starch waste. Known for their distinctive flavour and cost-effective production, these crackers offer several advantages. However, they also face obstacles in today's competitive snack market, particularly in terms of packaging innovation. This study aims to understand consumer preferences for Lamuk Crackers better, emphasising the significance of packaging development and proposing strategies to improve packaging that can boost the product’s market position. We adopted a quantitative research approach, using a structured questionnaire as our primary data collection tool for surveys. Using simple random sampling, we gathered responses from 185 consumers who had previously tried Lamuk Crackers. Data analysis was performed using logistic regression to identify key factors that influence purchasing decisions. The findings reveal that innovative packaging, such as aluminium foil in a standing pouch design, considerably enhances consumer appeal and preference. Important factors influencing buying choices include product quality, materials, shelf life, brand loyalty, and price. There is a clear link between innovative packaging and the product’s visual appeal, which helps communicate its premium quality, improves protection, and prolongs shelf life—all of which affect consumer decisions. To grow the market share, implementing a comprehensive marketing strategy is essential, using social media, e-commerce platforms, and collaborations with retail partners. This approach aims to preserve the authentic identity of Lamuk Crackers while boosting its competitiveness amid a rapidly changing marketplace.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the robusta coffee value chain in the Ngudi Rahayu XI Farmer Group in Kebondalem Village, Jambu District, Semarang Regency to determine the added value that can be obtained from each stage of the process in the robusta coffee supply chain and development strategies that can increase farmers' income. The research method used descriptive qualitative analysis with data collection through observation, interviews and discussions with farmers and quantitative related to added value using the hayami method. The results showed that the processing and marketing stages of robusta coffee final products generate the greatest added value. In particular, processing into dried coffee ose produces a total value-added of Rp 2,510 and packaged ground coffee of Rp 7,672 for every kilogram of wet ground coffee. Evidently that further processing to finished products generates greater value-added than selling semi-finished products. However, fluctuating coffee prices, limited access to market information, and technology are problems that coffee farmer groups still face. Therefore, to increase competition and profits for robusta coffee farmers in Kebondalem Village, it is necessary to improve the value chain through innovations in the processing process. value chain improvement through innovations in processing, implementation of integrated quality management, and implementation of effective marketing strategies.

Abstract

Rice productivity is an essential indicator of agricultural modernization and a key determinant of regional food security. This study aims to analyze the relationship between rice productivity and the Food Security Index (FSI) in Central Java Province, as well as to identify the role of productivity in strengthening regional food security. The research employs secondary data from all districts and cities, analyzed quantitatively through descriptive statistics, correlation, and linear regression methods. The results reveal a positive relationship between rice productivity and food security, indicating that regions with higher productivity tend to achieve better food security conditions. Although the contribution is relatively limited, the findings confirm that improving productivity as part of agricultural modernization remains an important factor in enhancing regional food security. The study implies that agricultural development policies should emphasize production efficiency, technological adoption, and farmer institutional strengthening to support a sustainable food system.

Abstract

White pepper is seen as an economic pillar by the people of Bangka Belitung Islands Province. Its untapped potential requires attention from stakeholders, therefore, a study of the white pepper agribusiness value chain is needed as a basis for policy making. The purpose of this study is to describe the white pepper agribusiness value chain in South Bangka Regency. This research was conducted in Air Gegas Village, Nyelanding Village, Delas Village, and Air Bara Village from January to August 2025 through a survey. The data used in this study include primary and secondary data collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. These data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that the white pepper agribusiness value chain in South Bangka Regency is dominated by the sale of white pepper in the form of grains rather than white pepper in the form of flakes. The parties involved include Agricultural Stores, Farmers, Middlemen, BUMDesMA Mitra Lada Bersatu, Retailers, and Exporters, as well as Consumers, specifically Local Consumers and Global Consumers. The involvement of BUMDesMA Mitra Lada Bersatu provides added value to white pepper despite its limited supply.

Abstract

This study discusses the potential and strategies for coconut agribusiness development in Bireuen Regency, supported by agroclimatological conditions, land use, and traditional cultivation traditions. There are four main sub-districts that are production centers with abundant coconut populations: Peusangan, Juli, Jeumpa, and Simpang Mamplam. The results show that coconut agribusiness development involves aspects of production, processing, marketing, infrastructure, human resources, technology and innovation, and policy. Through AHP analysis, the production aspect has the highest weight (27.4%), while the human resources aspect has the lowest weight (1.78%). The main actors involved are farmers (weight 0.503), followed by the processing industry (0.201), collecting agents (0.195), and government institutions (0.101). The prioritized strategic objectives are increasing added value (0.453), increasing farmer income (0.364), and food independence (0.183). The results of this study have very important implications for policy making in coconut agribusiness practices in Bireuen Regency, this is indicated by the research findings that human resources have a low weight so that increasing the capacity of farmer skills needs to be done through workshops on diversification of derivative products to innovate to meet market needs. The main roles in the coconut value chain are farmers and processing industries, a strategy is needed in developing the coconut value chain in a sustainable manner so that it can increase added value and farmer welfare in supporting food independence in Bireuen Regency.
